Was away for few months, my 2 boys damaged the disc tray of our xbox 360 console as the tray was not moving. I simply used this video to strip the machine and then adjusted the disc tray. 2024, February. I finally got the guts to take apart the old xbox after 14 years of use and being passed from stepfather to child, then to step child after years of being forgotten. It even sat in a closet after the red ring of death reared its ugly head. I got it working, barely. She struggled. He screws up and tells you to "break the plastic". You dont break any plastic. The side trim and the the flat plastic sheets on the side come off as ONE piece and there are giant plastic clips holding it all on.
I work on electronics for a living, and you will occasionally break plastic when your not supposed. But yes.. Telling people to break anything is bad for business for sure.
You have a step backwards. You don't have to break the plastic removing the side. Pull upward on the inner plastic near where the second smaller hole is. As you rock it and apply pressure from closer to the center and not the sides, the clips will buckle. That curvature is enough to ride over the clips and the side bezel and matte inlay come together out as one piece. Other than that, thanks
@@danmac0 you're talking about when you take it apart on the sides he's talking about the top and bottom one thing where the hard drive is and the other being the other side opposite of the hard drive location
Had to deep clean my Xbox (it's been ok the shelf for almost four years without being cleaned) so this really helped me get inside it to remove all the dust and gross that had started collecting. I actually managed to cheat and not remove those special screws and didn't use any tools besides a butter knife and a can of pressurized air. Anyways, this works fabulously and I was really able to understand what was going on (videos are WAY better than written instructions lol) Thanks for the help dude :D
To save ur Warrenty its simple just use a hair dryer to heat it up till your sticker is soft/sticky on the bottom then peel it off slowly then once your done place it back and it looks as if it was never even touched. Just make sure not to over do it.

Tore apart the xbox, unscrewed the disc box completely, found the yellow circled hole to poke a paper clip into and to my surprise there actually was a game left in it. Splinter Cell double agent. I'm gonna be so glad to play this again. Worth the hour of work.

The holes are there for one and one reason only: to give you access to those tabs. And yet, you remove the entire plate instead of just sticking your screwdriver through the holes and pull aside the tabs? If plastic is welded shut on a device that the manufacturer needs to be able to open up for repairs, it's a pretty good sign that breaking the welds is not necessary to access the inside. If that's the way you do it, fine, it's your xbox. But don't go on UA-cam advising others to break their consoles too when it's completely unnecessary.

I found this VERY useful and used it as a walk-along guide as I tore mine down. I really just wanted to drill wall mount holes into the backside to mount it vertically against my wall, but wasn't looking forward to take it apart on my own. This made it easy and was well worth the time, THANK YOU!!!

Why do these videos tell people to break the plates loose? thats what the holes in the plates are for to stick a dental pick or small screw driver into release the snaps. The holes are right over the snaps just pop them and release the whole plate no need to break anything off.

Nothing appeared wrong at first, but over time it appears (now) that the DVD drive had become 'sealed' by rotting/drying residue wine. Other videos talked about the regular 360 and your video shows the slim model (I have the Halo Reach edition). Long story short, I fixed mine.. thanks to this video!!!
Nice Video, helped me too. One thing I noticed, the flat head holes that are part of the inner plastic piece that is plastic riveted to the outer shell, if you put a small flat head down into those holes, you can release the clips that hold the inner and outer shell out at once. This way I didn't have to break any plastic rivets.
Just came across this video and wanted to point out that you don't break those side frame clips that are 'melted' together, you just need a long skinny flathead screwdriver to release the six tabs.
Great tutorial. By the way, it's called a Torx screw. T-10 = Torx bit. And the little sticker on the back side is not the security sticker - breaking the warranty. It's the round sticker on the inside covering one of the long Torx screws - unsecuring the metal box from the bottom plastic frame. Thanks for the help!

7:08 - Hint - If you dont have a security bit, use a tiny screw driver and put a paper towel (i folded it to make it a little thicker) on top of the screw. Then put the screw driver in and the paper towel will help it "grip" the top of the screw.

The plastic welded rivets don't have to come off, you can pry off the locks in the frame through the assigned holes with a small screwdriver. And the lock behind the sticker: there is a small hole in the cover (covered by the sticker) right left to "UL-NOM": Find it with a needle.
Time to finally clean it out after 11 years, it survived countless spills, drops, the three red lights of doom. Wouldn’t be doing it any respect if I didn’t give it a little service
Video helped, mine was just dirty and needed a good preventative maintenance cleaning to ensure longer life of the console. ISSUE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS: There is NO NEED to break ANYTHING!!! The same tabs he loosened to take apart casing can be done WITHOUT breaking welds on plastic through the slots that are molded into the top and bottom plates. He refers to the holes to "pop and break the welds" which are there to facilitate the tabs being lifted from their seat. I also agree that the hard drive should be removed before any maintenance is done to ensure there is no damage done to it.

Obviously it'll be out of warranty 👍 The hardest tab to unlock is the one that's below the warranty sticker. The sticker sits in like a groove. From the right hand side of the groove measure 6mm from right to left & from the top of the groove measure 22mm down. At that point drill a very small hole with a fine drill bit. I didn't use a drill I just used the drill bit. You don't need to drill a full hole just deep enough to then carefully push a drawing pin through the case which will then push the tab. Once you've opened the case you could measure for all tabs and drill small holes for future disassemble 🤝
I know the xbox elite was easy as fuck to open. I put the ghost case on it with blue LEDs and a wisperer fan with blue LEDs, IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!! they have it for slim but not worth it in my opinion. microsft should have just made as easy to open as the elite. and with slim being hard to open, I don't want to talk about opening an xbox one 0-o
i just ripped shit apart on mine and broke some motherboard looking thing on the side and now the xbox wont work lol it worked but my discs wasn't reading cause i rolled my car down a 30 or 40 ft hill into a river while my xbox was in the car lol
For the center clip along the back, I just push a flathead screwdriver into the corner next to the warranty seal, just above the S/PDIF plug. wedge it between the plastic pieces, and it falls apart a lot easier. I also find wedging a screwdriver or something between the 2 clips helps while focusing on the center clip to avoid those latching back together. That was the only real spot that gave me too much trouble. Beyond that, this video will tell you the rest.
not sure if its here but you can remove the sides without breaking the plastic! take a long thin wedge made out of a sturdy material such as metal and you can release the tabs below the cover without breaking the plastic bits. Learned this while working on a brand new system that had some crub fall inside with rattling so I'm doing my best professionally to disasemble this for the first time while leaving it in the newest condition possible

It is completely unnecessary to break the black plastic plates out of the chrome end caps. Just use a small flat head screwdriver in the slots.

No, there is actually a hole behind the sticker. You just need to put a needle in the hole to open

Thank you to this video. No one wanted to fix my daughter's XBox Disc drive door. This video taught me how to take apart the unit to get at the drive. Now my daughters XBox is alive and kicking, and no spare parts. LOL

7:08 - Hint - If you dont have a security bit, use a tiny screw driver and put a paper towel (i folded it to make it a little thicker) on top of the screw. Then put the screw driver in and the paper towel will help it "grip" the top of the screw.

I just got out of the shower, sitting in my LEATHER office chair at the desk doing this in nothing but my undies and Spotify's shuffle function made my metal go to some sad fucking song I had saved in my favorites to use in a video.

The plastic welded rivets don't have to come off, you can pry off the locks in the frame through the assigned holes with a small screwdriver. And the lock behind the sticker: there is a small hole in the cover (covered by the sticker) right left to "UL-NOM": Find it with a needle.

Video helped, mine was just dirty and needed a good preventative maintenance cleaning to ensure longer life of the console.
ISSUE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS: There is NO NEED to break ANYTHING!!! The same tabs he loosened to take apart casing can be done WITHOUT breaking welds on plastic through the slots that are molded into the top and bottom plates. He refers to the holes to "pop and break the welds" which are there to facilitate the tabs being lifted from their seat. I also agree that the hard drive should be removed before any maintenance is done to ensure there is no damage done to it.

The hardest tab to unlock is the one that's below the warranty sticker. The sticker sits in like a groove. From the right hand side of the groove measure 6mm from right to left & from the top of the groove measure 22mm down. At that point drill a very small hole with a fine drill bit. I didn't use a drill I just used the drill bit. You don't need to drill a full hole just deep enough to then carefully push a drawing pin through the case which will then push the tab. Once you've opened the case you could measure for all tabs and drill small holes for future disassemble 🤝

I put the ghost case on it with blue LEDs and a wisperer fan with blue LEDs, IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!! they have it for slim but not worth it in my opinion. microsft should have just made as easy to open as the elite. and with slim being hard to open, I don't want to talk about opening an xbox one 0-o

It helped me to replace thermal paste for my console.(360 Elite) . Almost 11 years and still running like new!

For the center clip along the back, I just push a flathead screwdriver into the corner next to the warranty seal, just above the S/PDIF plug. wedge it between the plastic pieces, and it falls apart a lot easier. I also find wedging a screwdriver or something between the 2 clips helps while focusing on the center clip to avoid those latching back together.
That was the only real spot that gave me too much trouble. Beyond that, this video will tell you the rest.
not sure if its here but you can remove the sides without breaking the plastic! take a long thin wedge made out of a sturdy material such as metal and you can release the tabs below the cover without breaking the plastic bits. Learned this while working on a brand new system that had some crub fall inside with rattling so I'm doing my best professionally to disasemble this for the first time while leaving it in the newest condition possible
