They're similar on the outside, but it's different from SBC because they actually do know she is a comedian. They don't know where she's going with the interview but they're at least somewhat in on it. I think I prefer this format because even though SBC is a genius, there is a sort of mild cruelty to what he does as people give him their time under false pretenses and can end up feeling like the butt of the joke. Whereas with Philomena it's always clear she is the one we're laughing at. Her humor is more in the absurd and unexpected things she says, while SBC forces us to confront unwritten norms in a more shocking way. The humor is in what that reveals about society but it's much more uncomfortable/painful rather than absurd and goofy :)
I know it was meant as a joke, but I'd say that Bob Geldof was more charitable and compassionate towards the poor than the so-called Mother Teresa ever was. Anyone thinking she was a good person really needs to look into her life more, and "Hell's Angel" by the sorely missed Christopher Hitchens would be a good place to start doing just that. The Church's PR machine did a fantastic job on her.
