- Welcome back to the channel
In this weeks video I show you how to replace a starter motor on a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3 L engine mated it to an automatic front wheel drive transmission. This is definitely a job that you can do in the driveway provided you watch the video and include the use of jackstands when crawling underneath it. It's not a difficult job, But can post some challenges if you don't know what's coming up ahead. So hopefully you find a video informative as well as entertaining. Of course if you do please hit that subscribe button to support my work.
As always thanks for watching you see you in the next one...
New subscriber. I know how to do this job but wanted a refresher since im doing it tomorrow. Great video. Keep it up.
Love the commentary for them DAM DODGES. Hate there engineering
This guy's channel is underrated I only watched this video so far and he doesn't sugar coat anything and he's funny this is exactly how a day goes working on cars I love it also he's very knowledgeable I watched this video just to see how the starter comes out since I never did one on my caravan.. that had 250,000 miles on it starter is original ...These Vans run forever 3.3 and 3.8... they are amazing vehicles and if taken care of quite often hit 500K..
Great video, got a question tho. I don't own a torque wrench/ratchet. What will happen if I just tighten the bolts on without one?
You don't necessarily need to have a torque wrench but you have to be confident with a ratchet that you're not overtaking or undertaking. Honestly it's worth it just to purchase one so that you're 100% sure because a lot of times Parts either fall off or people break both and that is not what you want. However if you are confident you can go ahead and use a ratchet with really no issues.
So I just replaced the starter and now it’s grinding. I put the shim back on with it. Did I put it back the wrong way? I might have flipped it and put the wrong side toward the starter itself? Is that possible?
The shim goes in only one way between the starter and the transmission. What I would do is compare the old starter to the new one to see if there are any differences. You'd be surprised how many times you might get a part that is wrong for your application.
Searched for 4.0 engine. This is for different engine. Bad search result
Sorry my friend I always list the engine size associated with the car in my tags. I'm not sure why the video came up for a 4 L.
Need advice... my 2010 dodge grand caravan, 3.3 , just quit while driving. Have power to everything but when you turn the key, there is nothing.
Checked battery, and it was low. Recharged the battery and still nothing. Could this be a starter problem?
Thank you
Larry. Ohio
My 2010 grand caravan SE 3.3L key is getting glitchy and not going into the off position so I was jostling it I went to far and it tried starting twice quickly and a BIG puff of smoke rolled out from under the hood and nothing...the smoke came up in the middle up by the cowl but not either side and now when turn it to start everything shuts off and nothing, but at on or accessory everything lights up again.... I'm wondering if the starter burned up? I've never seen that happenthat fast before. There is a monster 32 headway cell 64AH lithium battery trying to start it not a an oem style little lead acid battery, Any theories? Electrical smoke is scary especially when you have zero idea where it came from. Fortunately it's cold out now
Unfortunately I think I have more questions than answers for you. Are you saying you're running the vehicle on a lithium battery? If that is the case depending on the type of lithium battery it is from what I understand a battery that is not always compatible are interchangeable with lead acid systems I don't know why that is but that might be the cause of your issue. I would not replace the starter first off I would get it properly diagnose it sounds like you have some electrical issues. The puff of smoke could be the starter burning up or it could be wiring that couldn't take the amount of amperage coming from the battery. However without seeing I really can't give you any actual answers. I hope you understand. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.
@@JimmysAutoClinic yeah I run a big lithium battery for the stereo for about 2 years now, the compatibility thing is running it parallel with flooded lead acid because of the lithiums 13.6 resting voltage so flooded pulls all while vehicals is off, I had an isolator to separate if vehicals was off but I eventually deleted the flooded it dragged the voltage down to much like a volt and on a big amp that could be a few hundred watts.
@budgetbumpin sounds like you have a mega sound system.
Thanks for the info… But a warning on your mouth with‘Gods’name…its one in the Top10 Do Nots…!
Thanks for the advice.
Watching a mechanic is not for you then.

Yep you are 100% right I've definitely looked back at my own videos for torque specs and how to access different systems especially on that stupid Mercedes-Benz assist plus. So annoying lol thank you for watching.
Great video
Nice video funny and informative 👍
wow the oil pan and transmission pan looks toast!
Hey Dennis, yes it was toast. I replaced it in another video. If you have the same vehicle take a look at it you'll see how much fun it was lol. Thanks for watching.
Agreeing with others. Got what I needed to know. And laughed my ass off. "Stupid ground cable" lol.
