- Another Staple or Stinker!
Today our resident Master Duel player, Leoni, puts Anika, a returning magic player to the challenge of guessing whether or these 5 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are either Staples or Stinkers!
Can Anika guess the strength of some of these prolific Yu-Gi-Oh! cards?

Here's the cards from this day's session of Staple or Stinker! Get Snow before they ban it again for being too good:
bit.ly/3Uj1ndA
please ban it already, Konami
The Yu-Gi-Oh girl gave away the 2nd card before the MTG could say stinker or staple. Also Magical Mallet is underrated AF I use it in TCG OTS tournament play and it's when I know my cards can't affect my opponents board.
Very sloppy representation of Yu-Gi-Oh, sorry to sound sexist. But every guy on this channel has done a way better deck.
@@lz9275 it's not even that busted. DD crow, called by the Grave ECT. It's okay at 1
Also Soul Absorbing Bone tower doesn't even closely do what this "Yu-Gi-Oh player" said it does. It sends the top 2 cards when a zombie monster is special summoned. Not 3 or whatever number she said. Sorry if this was your audition for if she would be good for another video she has failed. Next girl please.
Also when is banishing hard to get at? Virtual World does it easily and can do it every turn. Burial from a Different Dimension ect.
That Mayakashi was the most evil Staple or Stinker I've ever seen.
If Dakki was printed in a good archetype she'd be broken as shit. Not even once per turn.
I'd argue when they put Theseus in, that was more brutal, but Dakki is a close second
It was completly unfair.. The card itself is amazing but the archtype Not. How should a mtg Player know this? 😂
But I do like the look of, Yes!, she had when her trap pick activated. It's so YGO : )
@@dracompb966 theseus already shown on previous episode
14:07 Remove from play is actually the same as banish, just a different name from when they reworked card text iirc
What I find helps when explaining Yugioh cards to MTG players is to use terminology they're familiar with, ex:
Banish - Exile
Quick Effect - Instant speed/Flash
Piercing - Trample
Might also help to explain some more key gameplay differences, such as Yugioh monsters having haste by default, or how their effects are sorcery speed unless specified to be a quick effect
Yeah, also Tribute - Sacrifice and Negate - Counter, even though not quite the same get the point across. I also like to explain summons like land plays. You have one a turn, the normal summon, but card effects can both give you additional (Floow, Explore) or put lands into play without costing it (Special Summons, Rampant Growth).
well i'd consider banish face down as Remove from play tbh because banishing face up doesnt nececarily strip the card of its effect Or in the case of stuff that RETURNS specific card types from the banish pile (think for example D.D.R) It cannot target Face down banished cards... because for all intents and purposes them being face down makes them "typeless"
Remove from play is banish when PSCT didnt really exist
@@RMSLtnick just to say that some cards like PSY-Framelord Omega can still get facedown banished cards back, as soon as it didn't specify any card info of the card that it can get back
Also snow can be used aggressively during your battle phase to deal additional damage. It is not once per turn or once per chain, you can use it again if your opponent plays something that would remove it from the GY or negate its effects for the rest of the turn. (d.d. Crow, skull meister, called by the grave, cross out designator)
That 7 Dwarfs thing blew my mind.
While a lot of people have already commented on easy 1-to-1 comparisons on magic to ygo (banish is exile, piercing is trample), there's another one I really like: the extra deck is a 15 card commander zone. THAT tends to get across a lot.
She actually did well especially considering the ones she got wrong were trick questions
Mayakashi would require knowing that Mayakashi aren't that good. The rest are pretty much "is this a good effect with a good condition or not?" and just require a bit of inference about the meta. Like, everyone who played Yugioh knew that Snow was absolutely busted on release (disruption, barely a cost, and not OPT) and that Witch's Strike requires your opponent to do something specific (which is always bad). Magical Mallet is building your deck around your deck being bad.
While you are right about Snow, the player base was absolutely divided about Strike and Mallet upon reveal. Mallet was quickly figured out by most as being bad for the reason you said (namely it’s only good if you have a lot of cards you don’t want to draw and at that point, you should build your deck better) but it took a while for Strike because well, negates were and are still rather common and that is a helluva payoff it has there. But the most potent negates get used on the first turn and this wouldn’t be live at that point and thus that slot is better used for a card that can continue your combos over hoping your opponent wrecks yours
@@Kylora2112 I would like a retrain of Magical mallet where cards aren't shuffled but put bottom.
I wouldn't call them trick questions..but she did very well regardless..hopefully we can see these two again doing this
@@barongeoffrey75 imagine... Mystical mallet
Traps and quick play spells are also spell speed 2. Only counter traps cannot be chained to except by other counter traps.
Was about to comment exactly this
Even counter traps can’t respond to counter traps i think
@@fares1752 Yes they can. Reboot hits judgment for example
@@GodzillaFreak but can judgement negate a judgement ?
@@fares1752 Absolutely. Cl1 judgment cl2 reboot cl3 judgment cl4 reboot has been a running joke way back 2018.
This series is always fun. I’m glad it’s continuing.
This woman's a magic player, you can just tell her "quick effect" means instant speed and "banish" means exile and she'll understand...
yugioh players teaching magic players about their card game like it's a foreigner being taught English for the first time
Maybe the ygo player doesn’t know the magic terminology
@@cleffadonk You'd think they'd have a YGO player that understands the basics of Magic, and vice versa, for these things.
@@Kylora2112 it not being vice versa is the point of the videos though
@@mystrenula3911 I'd imagine they mean that the "expert" of the cards being looked at should understand the basics of the other game.
This type of video would have the Yugioh player who understands Magic.
When it's a Yugioh player guessing Magic cards, they bring in the mtg player who understands Yugioh.
This was a lot of fun. Great host and participant!
Altho I would avoid archetype specific cards, cuz that feels like cheating lol.
Yeah cause Dakki is a core card of a Mayakashi deck that you have to play to get the deck going BUT Mayakashi monsters are very weak and also can't be mixed with other archetypes due to their effects locking you into only Mayakashi monsters.
I like mixing Mayakashi with Shiranui because there both part of the same canon, and they can actually do some combo stuff with each other too.
A lot of archetype cards are still staples, such as Snow and Pankratops. And some are technically not but are still tied to archetypes, such as Evenly Matched and Forbidden Droplet.
@@user-fe8gx3ie5v true about these examples, but cards like Dakki are 100% dependent on their archetype.
If there were synchros or links that search and/or boss monsters that are Swordsoul level strong, Dakki would be a staple
@@MagicianOfFlame Yes, but as I mentioned, that's not always the case, so calling it cheating is only half-true.
Anika had really good intuition, even for the cards she didn't get totally right she still had the right logic, just didn't know how the cards operated in the context of the game as a whole.
She was right, dakki is really good card. Sadly the archetype is mediocre.
Had leoni played magic this would be so much better and easier to explain for both of them.
The ability to translate terms in between card games is crucial for a video like this.
Quick play => Instant speed
Negate => counter
And the contestant would understand everything there is to understand just like they did with tribute => sacrifice.
Just so I can be a bit finicky I think counter = negate activation :D
But yeah this screams to people who know both well.
@@gabormaros780 there are cards that say counter target activated ability and others counter target spell, it's like the differentiation between solemn strike and solemn Judgment. So I'd say negate is counter and that's not up for debate
@@dark-kounoupidaki3764 Hmm, I guess you're right, it's kinda hard to compare at this level, since ygo summons just happen, no activations, while mtg summons go on stack too.
@@dark-kounoupidaki3764 "Negating" and "counter" is a bit difficult in Yu-Gi-Oh because Yu-Gi-Oh distinguishes between negating the _activation_ of a card or effect, negating an effect and negating the effects of a card.
@@hannessteffenhagen61 there are cards that say counter target activated ability and others counter target spell, it's like the differentiation between solemn strike and solemn Judgment. So I'd say negate is counter and that's not up for debate
A good comparison for explaining the extra deck to magic players would be to say they’re like a deck of companion creatures. Great video!
I had an MtG player give me a look and say "Why?" when I explained that the Extra Deck is basically 15 Companions.
I think describing it as a deck of 15 companions would probably scare them away from the game.
@@petrie911 I don't play YGO but it's my understanding that most extra deck stuff is getting special summoned directly to the field, so it's like the original companion rules when they were super broken.
I've always thought of it as a pure wish board... that doesn't take up the sideboard.... ygo is just a bunch of Johnnies being Spikes
Imma be honest the 7 dwarves relation never crossed my mind before
The key with witches strike is yu-gi-oh has 2 kinds of negates: negate the activation and negate the effect. Witches strike only works when the activation is negated.
It's a trap (slow) that requires a specific action from your opponent (bad). It's a 4th turn card for a 2 turn game.
I like this series but Leoni seems to have a few misconceptions of her own about how things work. For instance, Fairy-Tail Snow and Witch's Strike have the same Spell-Speed. The difference is a trap usually must be set before being activated, and cannot usually be activated the same turn it was set. Similarly, Banishing and Removed from Play are the same thing.
This is a really interesting series but it does sort of misrepresent the current game somewhat, especially if YGO player is wrong about things like this!
Yeah, the explanation for several of these cards was pretty bad. Take benten, I wouldnt in any way describe it as as staple. it is good in exactly 1 deck that hasn't been meta relevent for several years. Daki meets the same criteria except that its home deck wasn't ever meta relevant. Witch's strike is bad for several reasons, none of which are the ones that she gave. Snow was actually a decent explanation, the non once per turn, useable during your opponents turn for disruption, or your own to put bodies on the board is what makes it kind of busted.
@@mistriousfrog I mean it was the best deck because of Benten once Benten got limited it stopped being the best deck
@@mistriousfrog "1 deck that hasn't been meta relevant in years"
Drytron was definitely topping last year (and probably has pre-PotE tops from early this year), not sure if you know what you're talking about.
@@mistriousfrog Drytron was tier 1 for like half of 2021 wtf are you talking about "several years"
I think when explaining how Traps in Yu-Gi-Oh work, they should just say "It needs to be set on the field first but will have summoning sickness basically, but will be an instant speed after the turn passes."
Witch's strike is the same spell speed as fairytail snows quick effect.
Removed from play is the same as (face-up) banishing.
By Snow being faster, she probably meant that Snow doesn't have to be set for a turn before being able to use her effect... but yeah, they're both spell speed 2.
@@mk30b25 Stardust Dragon has also a trigger to be fullfilled to be able to use his quick effect. So saying one is faster because it has the term "quick" doesnt make sense.
@@J.Crime123 more so that cards that has a trigger are slower while being in the same spell speed tier.
To add another point about why Fairy Tail Snow is so good that wasn't really elaborated on: On top of the facts you already mentioned, where it can be used as many times per turn as you are able, at quick effect speed, and in response to effects that would disrupt it, it's flip-face-down effect is also incredibly potent for disrupting plays. It probably goes without saying but it's important to remember: its flip-face-down effect also triggers when it's summoned by its own summoning condition, not just from a Normal Summon or from another card's effect. Say your opponent activates Emergency Teleport with hopes of summoning a monster from the deck, you chain Snow's GY effect to summon it and then after that chain resolves, a new chain starts and Snow's field effect triggers, flipping their summoned monster face-down, so now it can't be used for any more combos or plays that need it to be face-up. This includes almost all Extra Deck summoning, and any effect that requires a face-up monster with specific stats. Snow is incredibly powerful in a deck that loves loading up the GY, like Tearlament.
Heck, flipping something facedown in MtG would be pretty nasty as it is, and Yugioh only really makes it easier to flip it back face-up.
iirc you still can fusion summon with flipped-down monster.
@@darkira2129 Yep, but all other Extra Deck plays require them to be face-up (except the Ghostrick Link, because Ghostricks are silly).
You forgot this: You can trigger the effect of topologic bomber dragon 4-5 times in 1 turn
Also, snow is amazing to dodge anything that targets, like called by, and imperm, it's also great to finish a chain, since you can use the cards you already activated to prevent targeting negation, and I've used her against evenly matched to banish cards face up instead of face down.
its interesting to see a magic player applying their knowledge of mtg to yu gi oh. it makes for fun discussions about how different the mechanics in each game are. Great video
I honestly am getting addicted to these types of series. Always a blast to watch.
Witch's Strike always gets everyone the first time. It can take lots of text or multiple minutes to explain exactly why the card isn't great, but I think the easiest way is to imagine the scenario in which the card is useful (you have it set on the field since at least the previous turn, you attempt to do something and your opponent negates it) which is already not the simplest thing in the world and then add a bunch of stipulations like the fact that it has to negate an activation, many commonly played cards don't turn it on, some decks hardly ever care about it etc. It also could be said that it'd be an entirely different story if the card was Quick-play and not a Trap.
Spell speeds in Yugioh are kinda like the old Interrupt rules in Magic, although it's unlikely lots of people played with those, and the game didn't use the "Stack" for resolving multiple spells and abilities back then but a batch system. It's best not getting into that for hose videos probably, but analogies do exist.
I mean, the card only cares about negation, even effect negations like Ash Blossom will do. It's just slow and some decks won't even attempt to negate anything you do, but try to grind you out or lock you out with floodgates
@@florinalinmarginean1135 Witch's Strike specifically cares for an effect's activation being negated and Ash doesn't do that. Note how the wording differs between cards like Ash and Baronne.
@@florinalinmarginean1135 Witch's strike only gets turned on by activation negations, which is rarer than effect negation. This makes it doubly bad because the main source of activation negation are the solemn trap line, which are a series of counter traps, so witch's strike actually is not allowed to activate in response to them.
Easy explanation its only live turn 3/4 and yugioh is a game mostly played on turn 1 and 2.
Witchs strike is also not a counter trap so it gets negated by monster effects and can't respond to counter traps.
@@mistriousfrog That's not a problem of the card actually. Witch's Strike is never activated in response to anything, it starts a new chain after the chain in which your activation or summon was negated finishes resolving. It'd be strictly better if it was a counter trap because then it couldn't be negated by monster quick effects, cause those are spell speed 2, but it wouldn't change how it currently plays at all. It can be used after Solemns just fine.
3:55 Should we tell her that Benten is semi-limited?
Edit: 12:50 Should we also tell her that Traps are also Spell Speed 2?
Edit 2: 14:08 Should we also also tell her that a card being banished and a card being "removed from play" is the same thing?
Should we tell her removed from play is the same as banished (face-up).
I was very confused
@@benito1620 2 Idiots had the same thought I guess lol
Oh I’m not sure. Maybe we shouldn’t tell them those things.
Benten is limited in Master Duel so she's not wrong. She has stated before that she doesn't play TCG a lot but plays a lot of Master Duel.
Great card choices. Witch’s Strike is the ultimate bait
I've played a lot of YGO (albeit not in the last few years though) and when they read it, I thought, "wait, I haven't heard of this but it seems kinda insane?"
@@dante3406 Yes when it resolves the card is really really insane, it's kind of bad because it's pretty hard to resolve.
@@RSFArocks You can use it after a solemn strike/judgment, In fact that is some of the only cards that actually do trigger it, it just activates in a new chain instead of being in response.
@@RSFArocks That would be beyond broken as only other counter trap can now negate Witch's Strike. No baronne, no borelload, whatever.
@@bambangw7134 It's still a trap.
Great series! However, I'd try to avoid cards that require knowledge of the larger meta or cardpool like Dakki. Since she read the power of the effect correctly but had no way of knowing there was no support for the archtype, it felt a little unfair.
I love these kinds of videos and it seemed like a really fun time for both of you! I'd love to see more of this. :D
Cards like Benten and dakki are archetype cards (it resulted in every ritual deck nowadays having synergy with benten) so they aren't really the best to use for these types of quizzes.
Btw I think magic has a card that is like snow but banishes 3 from the grave only and it is awful.
Snow would be so busted if it only banished 3 cards.

@@CardmarketYGO Snow banish 3 only ?

Let's not give Konami ideas guys
Are you thinking of Escape cards? Ox of Agonas is pretty close to Snow's banish cost and has been decent in the past, but those are probably affected more by mana cost than the exile cost.
Love the yugioh rating- series!
Yall got a doozy with this series, believe me
Always hyped when I get the notification
greetings from germany
I love the Staple or Stinker series (and it's Magic equivalent). They are what got me to subscribe to Cardmarket.
That last suggestion sounds really fun too (learn each other's different games and play a Yu-Gi-Oh match then an MTG match).
Really great to see another episode in this series and these two were great with the explanation of both why they think a card is good and why the other was right/wrong. Keep the episodes coming!
I really liked the video and this series! Thanks a lot for the content :)
The idea mentioned by the end, maybe of and "old school duel" would be great, I would love to watch that!
Thanks!
"Quick effect is faster than this trap card" that is incorrect. Spell speed wise they are the same the trap card is just more situational and has an activation requirement. Another small nitpick is she said banish and remove from play are different in yugioh which is also not correct. Every old card that says "remove from play" means banish.
As a general rule here is the spell speed list:
Spell speed 1: Normal spells, field spells, continuous spells, and monster effects.
Spell speed 2: Trap and trap effects (normal and continuous), quick play spells, and quick effect monster effects.
Spell Speed 3: Counter traps.
I think she might have meant "removed face down", which is the same zone as "normal" banished but there are only really few ways you can interact with face-down banished cards. Nonetheless, you are correct in pointing out that difference
I think she meant banish face down rather than remove from play
Love this series! Keep up the good work👍💯
Her appreciating the card artwork was soooooooo wholesome.
this was real fun, keep it up!
Please keep these going!!!!!! Great work guys
"oh my gosh that is so cute" is what we all think when we first see Snow. Then we play against it
this is a good series, and I do like seeing how different players view different cards from a game they're not familiar with. One bit critique is the same as many pointed out: if the host had knowledge of how both games work, it would make it much better I think. It would allow the host to explain how a card words a lot more clearly than if they didn't. An example, would be when she just stated how tribute is equivalent to sacrifice, however, when it came to banishing, it felt like even she didn't entirely know what it meant. I say this as Removed From Play, and Banish, are the same thing, there is not a banish zone, or a removed from play zone, and if she just said that banish is equivalent to exile, it would have been a lot clearer. Another example is when she was trying to explain what a Quick Effect is, she could have just stated that a quick effect is the equivalent of an instant/Flash/Activated Ability, and as such, usable anytime you would have priority. Aside from that, I think it was a good episode.
This series is amazing, I love seeing fresh perspectives on the game.
Love this series. You gals are awesome. Do more of these.
Id love to see more of this, also id love an episode with some cards of the digimon card game
Yessss please get some duels in here! It would be cool to see a Magic player learning all the different mechanics too (Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum & Link!)
Quick effect monster or spell effects are spell speed 2, normal trap cards are also spell speed 2, so Witch's Strike could activate and chain to a quick effect monster effect if its conditions were met.
I'm pretty sure you can't chain witch's strike in particular, because it's condition is met *after* the activation of another card is negated. So it usually starts a new chain before resolving
@@firstnamenulllastnamenull1174Yes you would be correct
You both were so charming. I am watching this as a Magic player, and it's so neat to learn what is powerful or not in YuGiOh. Also those cards were A-Dor-able!!! Wow! The closest thing we have to that in magic are "Secret Lair Drops".
I would love to see you two duel! Its fun to see new players figuring things out.
Really interesting concept for a series!
I always enjoy watching people be introduced to a new card game! It can be pretty hard for full Yu-gi-oh, but the new speed duels box might be a good place to start.
Exodia decks: magical mallet is great. Wittch’s strike would be way better if it wasn’t so slow. Also not mentioned how changing a monster face down can interrupt your opponent’s effects.
So only a few things ppl probably pointed out, Banish is remove from play it was changed to banish as a key word in the game to shorten text. Also Trap cards and quick effects are spell speed 2 so they can be activated in a chain. Otherwise great video. Also witch's strike is only when a cards activation is negated not when a effect is negated
Most trap cards are spell speed 2. Counter-trap cards are spell speed 3, and the only category of card in that speed.
This is a wonderful concept please keep it
About Fairy Tail - Snow, another major thing is the fact that you can't use face down cards to summon monsters from the extra deck (synchro, xyz, link). So that effect can be used to stop the summon of a key combo piece or boss monster
After seeing that Team APS video with the Professor rating Magic cards, this kind of video has become my new obsession.
Just something really cool about seeing YGO and Magic players interact. xD
I really like this series. I like watching other people giving their opinions on cards, even with a limited amount of knowledge on the game itself.
Some cards I wanna suggest for the next video are:
Forbidden Droplet
Dimension Shifter (or any hand trap that hasn't been done)
Crossout Designator
Called by the Grave
Triple Tactics Talents
Waking the Dragons
Summoning Curse
Artifact Scythe
Mirror Force
Ancient Fairy Dragon
Very enjoyable Show! I’d love to see more :)
Great series 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Certainly an interesting selection of cards. I really hope this series continues, particularly with some classic YGO stuff. Also, duels are always cool!
I feel like with Witch's Strike, an absolutely huge thing that was overlooked was how it says "negates the activation" rather than "negates the effect". If it was negate the effect it would arguably be a lot stronger as many many more staples (ash) negate effects rather than activations. Also, the spell speed really isn't a problem like others in the comment are saying. If someone uses a Solemn judgment as a counter trap (spell speed 3), witches strike simply starts a new chain as CL1.
For future videos if a Magic player asks what a quick effect is, say its just like an instant spell in Magic, they work the same way you just do them at any time as long as you meet the requirements
I love the Mayakashi! They are so much fun.
Also, it would be fun to see you both duel!
I love this series! :)
Also would be interested in seeing you two duel
I, as a novice of both games, am really loving this series :D
I love this video series
Dakki should've counted as a staple since there was no context to how good the archetype was, given that in her archetype she is incredible.
Not to mention that the most powerful Mayakashi card isn’t out yet… Sure, Ishizu Tear will prob still be T1 after Mavens, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mayakashi Trap sees some play in Eldlich builds as a solid rogue pick.
I suppose it's like, would benten be a stinker just BC drytron was bad
The problem with Dakki is that despite how powerful she is she can only be played in mayakashi decks. In-archetype she's absolutely busted, outside her specific archetype she's a level 2 tuner.
@@Drakshl honestly, Benten is kind of a bad card for a challenge like this. It is a card which is generically bad, not in any way a staple, but very good in one specific archetype that hasnt had meta relevance for a few years now.
Good in one archetype is not a staple, it's a good card. Staple means it can be widely used. "Dark Magical Circle" is a staple for Dark Magician, but would be very strange to see in any other deck. Anika picked up on that with Benten, saying that being as it targets "Light fairies", it has use in multiple situations. Most archetype specific cards are not staples, barring things like Red eyes fusion and cards of that nature.
I would love to see you two play great vid!
i like the ygo and mtg topic collab vids, playing both gives it another dimension of understanding to both sides
Commenting for the algorithm. Love these!
Isn't a Staple a card that you can play in every deck ? Benten is neither a staple or a stinker tho 🤔
But really nice video, this concept is dope!!
That's a uniquely Yu-Gi-Oh thing. Since there are no mana colors, all the best spells go into most decks.
In that case, no monsters could ever be staples. In most games, the term just means a good card that sees a lot of play.
I love this series so much!
This series makes me happy
I think it be would be really fun to show them something like cannon soldier or something that is good because it's either a soft once per turn or just not a once per turn
5:00 I think at that point Anika doesn't realize how broken that effect would be in Yugioh
Would be? She's describing Card Destruction.
Fairy Tail Snow is also great because it can pseudo-negate some card effects. If a card negates the activation of a face up monster (or targets a face up card and does something to _that_ target), you can flip it face down in response and still have it resolve.
Great video. Great to see card market doing vids like this. Think there was a missed opportunity though. Anyone not playing Yugioh watching this would never come into contact with some of these cards at all as they are completely irrelevant to modern Yugioh or are multiple formats old.
Might have been more inspired if they used cards that are newer or more common to see and would probably be cool to see this vid. Decide to buy some ygo boosters and then pull one of the cards spoken about.
Otherwise loved it
Haven't watch the full video,. But, based on how much she seems to know about the card game and that the first card is a ritual monster whose only used as a combo piece this is gonna be a tough set of cards to guess.
EDIT: Okay she did pretty well, but some of those cards were really tough guesses.
More of this and also showing a new player how to play!
I want to see more of these two
Love this series
Dakki and Benten were definitely unfair.
Dakki is a staple in Mayakashi because the deck is focused around summoning her over and over to summon synchro monsters with a higher level (from 3 at the lowest up to 11).
Benten is restricted by being a ritual monster, a summoning mechanic that used to be very flawed.
Both cards are good in their respective decks. The main difference is that Benten can be used by other ritual-decks and light & fairy just happens to have the most support. Dakki can only be used for its intended purpose unless you tribute it to special summon Nine-tailed Fox or do whatever.
Anyway…Magical Mallet is only useful for getting your Garnets (cards that are mostly or even only useful when they stay in the deck until you draw the coresponding card) back into the deck.
But do mayakashi see play?
PLEASE do another episode with this guest thats JUST cards with very cute artwork the world needs it
I'd love to see you guys introduce a new player to yugioh in a duel!!
She's too cute trying to guess the Yugioh cards and it was funny her calling the levels dragon balls
this series is awesome. i only discovered this channel and the mtg one cuz of these videos.
blue-eyes chaos max dragon - it's an hexproof indestructible version of an iconic card.
barrier statue of the stormwinds - floodgate card.
dimension shifter - tearlaments must die.
poison draw frog - tricky because of timing.
underworld goddess of the closed world - crazy boss monster. also i dont think a link monster has been shown yet?
I'm loving their enthusiasm
Moooooooooooore!
(Great vid ^^)
Cards with strong effects that miss timing like the yang zing or better yet the Gustos. It's such a cheap shot but would be fun to see someone learn what missing timing is
Wait, correct me if im wrong, but: witchs strike does have the same spell speed as quick effects. There are 3 spell speeds: spell speed 1 can only be at the start of a chain, pot of greed or breaker, the magical warrior are examples. Spell speed 2 are cards that you can use in any part of a chain, they can react to something or you can use them in your opponents turn (there are exeptions). Traps cards always have spell speed 2 or higher (there are probably exeptions, but i dont remember one) but monsters, continous spells and quick spell can also have spell speed 2. Examples are twin twisters, Borrelload Savage Dragons negation effect and, you guessed it: witchs strike and fairy tail snow. Spell speed 3 are counter traps. They always react to something and u cannot activate other cards in response to them, exept for counter traps.
On another note: there is no such thing as a difference in "removed from play" and "banished". In the earlier days, the card text said "removed from play", because they were thought of as they were never coming back. As they printed more cards that refered to those cards while they were already removed from play and card texts kept getting longer, they called it "banished".
Btw I love the format, pls keep it going gals n guys :)
Traps indeed are inherently Spell Speed 2 and must be set for a singular turn before being able to be activated.
Spell speed is already an informal, player made term, but there is also a spell speed 4 for cards which cannot be responded to at all such as the borrelload monsters.
@@mistriousfrog Spell Speed is a real term and is used in the rule books produced by konami. "Spell Speed 4" specifically is the player made term.
Its kinda wrong though, since you cant chain something like super poly to a counter trap
@@peterfehrmann9029 Spell Speed 4 is just term that refers to cards that cannot be responded to like Super Poly. It more describes what the player can do as opposed to how it actually functions.
nice, would nice to see the duel
a couple of ruling explanation mistakes!
bout to um actually us both into the shadow realm cause im a nerd.
1) quick effects are spell speed 2. the same speed as normal traps and quick-play spell cards.
2) remove from play is the old wording of banish, but they are in fact the same thing.
i think it would help a lot if someone where there to explain the yugioh effects in a mtgfied way that would save a lot of explanation. tribute is sacrifice, specialen might as well be cast without paying the mana cost, negating equals countering, quick effect is the synonym for flash and banish and exile are identical.
More Staple or Stinker, more Cardmarket personnel!!!
Interaction to boost post, very fun episode!
A small clarification. A quick effect is spell speed 2, which matches the speed of a non-counter trap that has been set. Spell speed 3 would be a counter trap. There is technically something someone could consider a spell speed 4, and that's cards that can't be responded to via its card text like Super Polymerization.
I've played both for many years. Pretty much since the start of Magic. I mostly like playing control. Mainly for alternate win states. For me, that always seems to be more easily done with Yu-Gi-Oh. I wanted to bring this up because of the discussion of banishment in the video. While there are cards that let you banish stuff in Magic. There are very few, I can only think of maybe 2 off the top of my head that allow you to bring stuff back. And if I remember correctly, it's specific things. But in YGO, you can build a turn 1 infinite combo deck around banishment. I just really enjoy that, lol.
I've also built a deck in magic that is turn 1 with no lands. As in no land cards at all. I built it to be a counter to Flash Hulk. I was actually surprised with how smoothly it ran. I just really like building decks, and seeing combos pop off.
great card choices!
Today I learned snow makes you banish seven because of the seven dwarves
Me too
Awsome serie😻
I wanna see it. xD love watching new players wrap their head around yugi.
I want more of this and also going the other way as well.
Also to add on with Snow is she can also be used as disruption, since most ED summon besides fusions requires your materials to be face up so if you hit the right card you can stop a combo.
Also since Snow can banish any 7 card most the time you can just banish spell traps that's been used since those are harder to recycle than monsters. So 7 sounds quite costly but since you can use your GY that's a lot of benefits and not all decks recycle their gy this lets snow acts as both a potential disruption and extender.
Should have explained snow as a mini delve and explain how putting stuff face down is powerful because it prevents so many summoning mechanics from the extra deck from even happening
All of them actually! Except fusion because well, Konami says so.

@@CardmarketYGO So not all of them
witch's strike is an absolute staple which i use in all of my trap decks, and i have resolved the card multiple times resulting in me winning
