  • After a video I posted on Tiktok about Strat string gauge preferences turned into a screaming match I decided to try and make an apples to apples comparison between a Stratocaster with .09G strings, and one with .10G strings. Let me know below which guitar you think had which gauge, and which you prefer!

I’m about to try 11-50s on my soft v neck strat…. Heard it’s amazing … oh and sounds like second guitar has the 10s

The first guitar has 10s, the second has 9s. Also they are different guitars so the tome may change. BTW the first guitar was out of tune on the first clip

My guess is you have a vintage type strat and a more modern strat there. Strings in the 50s and 60s were generally thicker gauges so you have tens on the vintage strat (which is the first one). This is to counteract the brightness of the pickups which was characteristic of vintage style strat pickups. The end result is two strats which don’t sound a whole lot different from each other but I bet if you switched it around and swapped the strings over there would be a big difference between the two strats. Am I way off here? 😂

What gave it away? Next time I change strings I'm going back to 10's. 9's sound very straty but they play very slappy and slinky for me

@@RandolphguitarsI've been playing with 9's since I started playing 2 years ago because I read they are easier on the fingers and easier to bend. But I've been noticing for quite some time that I very easily throw chords slightly out of tune due to unwanted bending.
I think I'm gonna give 10's a go. It might help with that.
