Rob was trained in opera while he was college but had not sung it for 15 years. Austin was trained in Musical theater but his college teachers tried to get him to sing opera. Austin had to push Rob into doing this, they were afraid of how their fans would react. The response by the fans has been overwhelmely positive. Thank for your reaction and you have a blessed day.

I watched Pavarotti first while waiting to see these gentlemen perform. One of the commentators said: "wow he hit that last note like it owed him money." That's how I felt about our boys. They totally stunned me with this performance but I wasn't surprised at the level of talent that they possess. Glad Austin encouraged Rob to do this one. Thanks for your "surprised " reaction. 😱😯🥰

Here's a funny thing...Austin knew Rib could sing opera. But evidently had never heard him actually SING opera. So after they each recorded separately, Austin listened to Rob's track and said "Nope! I have to go back and do mine again to try and sound as good."

My major problem with opera is I can’t understand what is being said. The same complaint I have of many popular songs where the music covers the vocals. But Rob is amazing and Austin held his own. I even went and listened to Pavarotti sing this and for my money Rob is better.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 Рік тому +5

@@JoannaN-573 There is a lot of opera composed in English. It doesn't have to be in Italian to count as opera! Try some of the works of Britten, Tippett or even (if you can take contemporary classical) Harrison Birtwhistle. In London the English National Opera presents all works in English translation, so you could try and find some of that. Or learn Italian to enjoy Puccini, Verdi and Rossini as they were composed!

This is insane. It is extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. But Rob, I'm perplexed. His voice is just magical, so rich, so warm and so powerful. Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. For me he will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..

And then, you should watch Aretha Franklin do it live at the Grammys. Pavarotti was scheduled, felt ill at the last minute, she stepped in with like one practice, and did it in his key because that’s what the orchestra had been practicing, and she puts her own spin on it and it’s pretty amazing to watch✌💕✨

Great reaction!! Adam actually did a Trans Siberian Orchestras Carol of The Bells during his solo at a Christmas concert so technically I think if anyone could pull something off like that he could.

I'm so glad Rob and Austin did this to help introduce people to opera! I grew up listening to Luciano Pavoratti singing Nessun Dorma. Our house was filled with Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Haydn, etc. and "rock" music was strictly verboten! Nessun Dorma is from Puccini's opera Turandot and it's sung in Italian (not all opera is sung in Italian; some is sung in German--which, at the time, was considered vulgar, but Mozart said "screw 'em" and wrote in German anyway; Mozart was such a bad boy!!). Rob's classical training is apparent here and he absolutely nailed it. Nessun dorma means ("nobody sleeps") and no one can sleep until a suitor for Turandot (a beautiful young princess) either answers three riddles or is beheaded. You can read a synopsis of the story of Turandot here: www.operaphila.org/whats-on/on-stage-2016-2017/turandot/full-synopsis/.

Thank you. It is easier if you are familiar with their professional music background and what they are well known for singing.
Homefree did not specialize in country until the SingOff talked them into doing it for their competition. Tim and others have talked about it in interviews.
What a singer's musical training is can be very different from what they end up doing professionally. Case in point, Avi Kaplan is a formally opera trained basso profundo who sang pop acapella in Pentatonix and now sings his own compositions in folk rock. Maybe we should get Avi to do a bass aria out of Cosi fan Tutte (The Magic Flute) by Mozart next?
Rob is an opera trained tenor. Rob doesn't do singing on his own he reviews movies.
Austin is also formally classically trained but sings in more of a musical theater and pop classics direction. He developed his channel as did Tim Foust as their income sources during the pandemic quarantine with no touring for live shows.

    Hey D,
First of all, I think their use of the word "try" in the title of this video might have had two separate connotations:
    1. To fool you into thinking they were going to do something silly and goofy because... duh they're Home Free and they have a sense of humor.
    2. Because they know that they are NOT professionally trained Opera singers and therefore they expected to make some mistakes and have some deficiencies versus a true Opera singer. Most notably, the volume. This was recorded in a studio, and in an Opera the singers do not use microphones.
To a layman like you and me, they absolutely nailed it. To be hired as an actual Opera singer, they would no doubt require more training. I'm given to understand that the standards are pretty freaking high.
I am watching a very lengthy reaction/analysis video right now (I have it paused) by Peter Barber, who is a professional opera singer. He absolutely loves Home Free and he seems to be doing an excellent job at breaking this apart. If you're interested in hearing the technical breakdown, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/qBWtR0bQDKE/v-deo.html
In your reactions to Pentatonix in the Sing-Off, you were very upset that Ben criticized them, but there is apparently a LOT of knowledge that goes into singing. It's WAY over my head, but the experts know what they're doing. I think it's safe to say that at this point in time, everyone in PTX has become an expert. Watching you watch their journey was very fun.
Anyway, my point is that music teachers know a lot more than we do and ya know what, they can have it, I'm happy to just listen and have no idea why I love it so much.
Oh and I'm seeing PTX at the Hollywood Bowl in two days so... WOO HOO!!!!!
