Visit to Scotland and the Highlands in September 1993
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of my second trip of 1993 to Scotland and the Highlands. Initially to capture on film the sleepers being double headed with class 37s and the Perth to Inverness services, loco hauled with 37s. The video is in one part so I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. The first ports of call are on the Perth to Inverness line and feature Dunkeld & Birnam station then to the summit (1484 ft) at Druimuachdar. Slipping over to the West Highland line briefly for a visit to the Depot and Mallaig Junction in Fort William for a glimpse of a few Locomotives stabled on the depot .Returning the next morning to witness the Down London to Inverness sleeper at Kingussie. Later a visit to Dalwhinnie for an up and a down class 37 hauled service to and from Inverness. The following morning I visited Aviemore to video the Down sleeper and I also witnessed the Up Inverness to London King's Cross HST service. Heading back south the next day I popped into the delightful and well kept station at Gleneagles, famous for the Golf course and Hotel. A very friendly station porter arranged a few old vintage barrows for me to film. An Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street service called hauled by a class 37. Finally to end this video I popped into Newton On Ayr and Falkland yard to see by chance what was occurring. A class 08 was shunting a pair of recently withdrawn class 20s, 20028 and 20055 into the long line up of class 20s in the yard which were to be cut up at MC Metals of Glasgow 2 years later. A sad reflection of the time. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

More great footage! I was up there just a few weeks before your visit in July and also earlier in September. Great memories of the Class 37 loco hauled renaissance between 1992 and 1994.

The driver in the first clip is still working at Perth depot and he’s loving seeing this ! Towards the end a 318 departs with toots on the horn and that’s a rather famous ROG driver now. Fantastic selection as always, I’m slightly more biased towards the Scottish videos on this channel but I still enjoy all of them ! 😊

All the liveries were great back then - they kind of all complemented each other rather than the random hodge-podge you get today. I think blue big logo looked very good on the 37 too@@spompey

Hi There Again my real Name is Mr Cannadine T. Boxill-Harris, I have another interesting idea for most of us Class 307 Fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 307s maybe you guys can convert them and including the refurbishment into those Leyland 680 engines, Volvo B10M Engine, Cummins M11 Engine, Gardner 6LXC Engine, Gardner 6LXB Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 307’s and convert all of them into a 2 Carriages and Three Carriages Class 307’s for most of us Diesel Train Fans out there PLEASE. Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project for everyone out there PLEASE?

Interesting as 20028 + 20055 had only just been moved here from store at Crewe the day before.

I did not know that. There was however a good line up of 20s in the yard which stupidly I never looked to see what ones they were, perhaps I was pushed for time. Many thanks for the info DJ, it is much appreciated and my sincere wishes to you.....Mark
