  • Just a bit of background info regarding the withdrawal of 37260 and the reinstatement of 37113 in 1989.
As shown on your website 37260 suffered fire damage, and was dragged away for damage assessment. The news was not good, as the fire had badly damaged the loco. At this point Doncaster Works piped up and said "But we think we could reinstate 37113 for you much more cheaply". 37113 had been withdrawn several months previously, and everybody assumed that was the last we would see of it.
However Doncaster Works had decided to use 37113 as a rebuild project for their apprentices, so the loco was entirely rebuilt over a period of months (at Doncaster Works expense) then sat in the works fully operational waiting for the call.
When 37260 incinerated itself, the deal was done. RfD were expecting to have to pay to repair 37260 and have the loco out of use for several months. Instead they paid a lower sum and got 37113 back in traffic within a couple of days. That is also why the "Radio Highland" name was transferred to 37113, as it was considered the direct replacement of 37260.
    Cheers

Much of the passenger workings (WIck/Thurso/Kyle) was exclusively 37's from 1980 until they were replaced by 156 units. I would be pulled by one of these beasts home from School in Inverness to Tain and then back on Monday mornings. The carriages were old rolling stock (type 1) and stinking of diesel, but I loved them!! I even got a ride in one (as one of my friends, Tommy Trix (MacKay) worked on the railways) which was an unlikely bonus; I will never forget it. Tommy also used to, very kindly repair my bike for me. I was 14.

Ah, but in the early '90s, you could say "Wish I could go back another 25 years. We had such variety." There'd be Deltics on the ECML, diesel-hydraulics on the Western Region, 25s and 40s everywhere, Peaks on the Midland Mainline and Transpennine services, the 1500V DC overhead electric locomotives, ... But I certainly agree that BR in the 1990s was a lot more interesting than today's railways. I have a lot of nostaligia for that time, as it's when I was growing up, and old enough for my parents to let me get on trains and travel around the country on trainspotting daytrips.

Not sure why UA-cam decided to show me your channel, as I wasn't searching for anything like it, but I'm glad I did, some gold on here, reminds me of being a kid again back in the late 80s and early 90s, love it.

A brilliant video with some of my favourite locomotives. 37401 Mary Doll still in use with DRS and 37261 at Bo'ness for restoration . The only Inverness loco conspicuous by its absence was 37025 Inverness TMD.
Keep up the good work with your downloads!

261 might not see as quick a restoration as hoped as it’s now missing it’s power plant after being dropped in 403 😬
I have still yet to see 025 after restoration 😆

@@yesterdaystracks I'm sure that 261 had a power unit fitted at the same time as 403. I used to volunteer regularly with the Diesel Group, but haven't been for a while. I think it was because the crane was hired anyway.

Oh that’s awesome news then I’ll go look that up, not seen many updates on 261 on the Facebook group but will be amazing to see , just the driver on the tour said it was 261’s power plant but possible I’ve picked him up wrong

@@yesterdaystracks I don't do Facebook but I'm sure that there was 2 power units being rebuilt the last time I was there. 261 is sitting on borrowed bogies too. A bogie rebuild to mainline condition is as big and expensive as an power unit rebuild. I remember it was £20000 for 4 new tyres for the 25!
