Good video, good simple advice. I'm not thrilled with the owners manual that came with my M500 so this video portrays basic maintenance very well. Only thing I would have done different was power wash the Massimo before recording the video but that's just me 😁
Thanks so much for your video. I'm not a mechanical type of guy either and watching your video convinced me to get one of these (I was afraid to because I"m moving to a farm where there won't be any shops local). Did my first oil change today and your video was the one that helped out allot.
@@TrainedZombie Yes. The thing broke down on me after 100 miles. I'm not a happy camper right now. I'm going to take it to the shop (waiting list) to see what is going on. Long story short I think it is a crap shoot when buying one of these and I wound up on the short end of the stick.
Thanks we have the 700 pretty much the same. Had a hell of a time finding oil filter… had to order from Lowe’s. Great vid. Appreciated your time. Not many post on these things. Been a great little machine. Approaching 80 hours. 3 years small farm Use. Cannot complain!
Well done!!! The owners manual is junk and you explained and showed it very well. Consider making a video for the owners manual seeing they can't. Your video was very helpful for me as I had struggled with that. I will let them know that I learned this from "he who should not be named". Thanks again.
Shootin' with Uncle Dan I am thinking of doing the SAME thing In a week or three, the Buck 400 from the plant in Texas...!! How about You, Where did you Get yours..??
- My book (Massimo 500) specifies 2.2 qts oil with filter change, not 2.5 qts. I put the oil into the dipstick hole; only spot I could find! To check oil level, don’t screw dipstick in. I also took the doors off; easy…do it at the post. - FYI: When shifting into 1st gear, I depress brake, then KEEP light pressure on shifter (toward 2:00), and if I don’t feel it click into gear, first give it a Tiny bit of gas till it clicks in. Don’t just give it the gas, or sometimes it’s not in gear yet and GRINDS GEARS! Ouch.
Not one how to says HOW to use the dipstick! HUGE difference if it is just stuck in to check OR screwed in to check it ...WHICH IS IT?? Manual does not say and niether do any of these how to videos so far ...Please help!!
I'm needing advice for my Massimo. It seems like it runs out if gas/ acts sluggish then dies. We've changed the fuel pump and the air filter. We are stumped.
I gotta thank you for your video's. After retiring from 25 years of law enforcement,as a PA state game warden and Bradford county sheriff's dept. I bought the same exact msu 500 from a tractor supply in sayre Penn. I've followed your post through the break in period oil /filter changes. When my trans started grinding trying to select low gear I thought dang that sounds expensive!!. I wondered if you had the same thing with yours. Sure enough there was a vid on a simple tweek adjust for that. And thanks to the man that gave you that info. I ask myself how I ever got by without it. Plows snow, dose all the push, pull haul ,stuff on my little subsistence farm. Hauls tree stands in and deer out. Helps with the 10 to 14 cord of fire wood I cut for sale each year. I live out in the hills,so going to friends house's is a simple matter of knowing which logging roads to take. Up here it's my primary source of that type of travel. The list goes on. So I'm thankful your there and that your post have helped me so much. Stay safe out there brother.
Dougie, you're correct. He's going to get more dirt into the engine without being oiled than doing what you're suggesting. I also had a hard time taking the bolt off the end of the oil filter canister. I drilled it out and replaced it with another bolt. Made getting the filter off the next time 10 times easier.
not making the outer filter sticky to catch the dust will cause you to need n replace the inner filter sooner then you need, also didnt looknlike the original was oiled either to me!
BTW foam air cleaners typically do not need to be replaced but rather washed and OILED with airfilter oil....be careful to squeeze out all excess and that oil saturates to all areas on filter. An non oiled foam filter will NOT protect engine against micro particles.....any off-road racers and enthusiasts know this
Didn’t explain how to check oil right, didn’t oil the air filter or grease the seal, didn’t check the radiator level right….lol no wonder so many of these engines fail. Hey, but don’t feel bad. Even the factory Massimo videos have their “technician” Giving out bad info.
ATTENTION!The manual fails to say that when you check it oil it has to have had time to have all run back into crankcase ,,,(wait until cool) Then do NOT screw in the dipstick! Wipe it off and just plunge it till it bottoms without screwing it. pull her out and look at her. Shame on massimo and all these how to videos for failing to share this!
Do not buy this piece of crap. Ive had a 2 year nightmare with mine. Spent $9k on it at Lowe's it has 100hrs on it, Hisun is pretty much trying to make me sew them, which will cost more than the machine is worth. Buyer beware! Big time!
Wow you could have helped alot of people if you would have said what size wrench or socket you use$ on the oil pan plug. And pointed out exactly where to pour the oil back in. Very disappointed.
Sorry about that. I used that huge set of plyers. It is a huge bolt. I don't have a socket that large to measure it. You put the oil back in where you check it.
You're one of the few people with any videos about the axis somehow, so thank you this.
I've got a bunch. The Massimo msu 500 is the same machine with different stickers.

Thanks for the short and to the point video. I have one of these and wasn't sure where all the plugs were.
I am impressed the oil filter you have is better that the one Honda put in mine.
Pretty neat design
Hahaah that dog man, christened your 20 hour milestone

I just bought a used one with 20hrs on it. Noticed it has grease fittings on drive shaft and sway bar, maybe more places.
Ok so you have to take the seats out to check the oil? Thanks for this vid very helpful 👍
Great vid - Simple and direct with exactly what needed. Thank you sir.

I have 7 miles on my axis 500 and I am hearing a rubbing noise in the front end, have you ever had that problem? Or could it be breaking in????
Where should the level be on the dip stick?
I'm interested in your windshield... did it come stock, or is it an Add On?
Great info!!
i have to rev mine up a lot to make it move any suggestion about what could making it to this or is that normal

Foam filters like that typically are NOT simply changed! They have to be washed dried and OILED

Do you have a cross reference number for the oil filter preferably K&N??
Any idea what the model oil filter and air filter is that you used? I just bought one of these and have no clue what to buy. Thanks
I honestly forget. Pretty easy Google search should tell you. I got them from ebay
I noticed you used dirty oil to lube the new filter gasket.
Did i?
Yup.
Oops, but no biggie
Awesome video
Thanks. Good info.

How much oil does this model take?
Very good, appreciate it.
Oil plug drain is 19mm

where did u get the air filter?
eBay

Yeah, replace the paper one, clean and oil the foam one.
R these machines the same as Axis the ones at Lowe's ?
I just bought the Axis 500 and it looks identical and is also made by Hisun. Oil filter and plug, seat removal and engine cover are identical.
The manual recommends 15w-40 SL. After using the oil recommended in this video (10w-40) I’m getting smoke out the back. Anyone else having this issue?
My reccomendation was from my manual. You should follow your manual. Also make sure you didn't over fill, that can cause smoking
Did you put any oil in the oil filter before installing the oil filter or did you add more oil after it ran a few minutes?
I’m on like 400 hours and haven’t change it yet
Did you do transmission fluid as well?
Oil is also the transmission fluid
@@TrainedZombie ok thanks
Cool dog!
Thanks #kruzthedoberman has a channel posting 2 videos a week
Just wondered if I was the only one who noticed the dog peeing on the tire and then run through the camera later?
i just hit the 20 hour mark and im about to change the oil
It's pretty easy.
Looks like my Axis 500 by HiSun.
Same thing. They're all made by HiSun
These are good vehicles for the money as long as you are mechanically inclined. They company warranty and service stinks.👎👎👎👎👎
What dumb engineer decided to put the oil filter in that most ridiculous place.
Chinese
BY ALL MEANS don't clean off the oil you spilled dirt and dust need a home TOO
I put an exhaust silencer on mine and it really helped with the loudness.

Say 19 mm in comments
19mm or 18.5mm on older models(no biggie if you round it off just get the new one and it'll be 19mm). Put oil where the dipstick goes
