After reading some of the comments, I feel bad for Bob Welch. He is being beaten up simply for not being Peter Green. He is interpreting someone else's song and did a perfectly fine job at it. He is not Peter Green...nor is anyone else. There's only one Green God. Give Bob Welch, a massive talent in his own right, some credit for stepping into a difficult situation and making the very best of it.
Same happens to Lindsey you know. His fingerstyle never fails to satisfy. I know without peter green blues wouldn’t’ve been the same. But come on… these are really awesome players too who are worth among the greatest. Not to mention my most fav is Lindsey because fingerstyle is my main thing and I love travis. Now dont get me wrong I listen all the way down from jazz to thrash metal so I dont have to name every guitarist I love. But my most favourite is Lindsey. Its just influence. And yes still green manalishi is a whole different world I agree.
He literally did save them. He got them to move to California, get a new manager and , when he left, recommended lindsey Buckingham as his replacement. His tenure was eventful, but he set them up for more success then they ever could have imagined. They were still little more than a cult british blues/pop band before he took over and moved them in the direction that eventually would reward them beyond their wildest dreams.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 He wasn't as good as Kirwan but I believe Weston wasn't playing in FM at the time this was recorded. Or are you confusing Bob Weston with Bob Welch who is singing here.
Awesome.I am a musician from the 80's and played Santana Black Magic Woman but I met a musician from the 60's and told me his band played this song in the 60's from Peter Green and I investigated and wow he was true to his word.Oh Wow.
Of the 3.5 bandleaders spread across the various incarnations of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green is obviously the Goated God, but I honestly think the Welch era was the most sonically interesting. Mystery to Me is a flat out phenomenal album.
The guitarist is Bob Welch here. This would be footage *I think* from the Heroes Are Hard To Find tour in '74, near the end of his tenure. What's interesting is the second keyboardist. I had no idea there ever was one in those days, but sure enough - Doug Graves was hired on for the tour. That must be him. Bob introduces him at 3:40 or so.
At some point during that tour (ca. November?), Doug Graves left the tour and Bobby Hunt played organ for the the remaining dates. Bob Welch had known Hunt from when they were both members of Head West. Graves and Hunt were hired just for the tour and neither were full band members.
@user-nx4cb4qt3t : Surely, Mick did a good job. Also later on with the Stones. But there is never a second Peter Green. His Fleetwood Mac were more popular than the Beatles , way back in 1969.
I know they used to have these black straps that hooked onto your frames and would hold your glasses up to keep them from sliding down, because my uncle used to wear them for his thick heavy glasses. Poor fella.. 🤓 Great playing though. 👍
@@coldacre When Peter left, he was replaced by Christine. Then later, Bob Welch replaced Jeremy. And when Danny was fired, in came Bob Weston on guitar and Dave Walker on vocals. Just to get things straight, lol.
What a disaster. Bob was trying to get Danny fired shortly after he was hired and this is what we are left with when he finally was able to convince Mic.
Kirwan was fired after going into a blind rage before a gig during the 1972 US tour. He destroyed his beloved Les Paul, trashed the dressing room, and refused to go on stage. That's why he was fired.
Mr Anderson's comments below appear to be quite correct. May I further suggest that the main vocalist's otherwise acceptable performance, (and who shall forever remain in F-M's insignificance) was preoccupied with his oversized spectacles slipping down his nose; emulating a judge about to pronounce a life sentence for misdemeanours against Peter Green..? Both Mick's & John's body language seem to portray the truth of how it COULD & SHOULD have perhaps been FAR better...?
In light of the accused's flagrant disregard for the quality licks, songwriting chops, and humor of Mr. Welch, I hereby sentence him to 100 years in the Big Towne 2061 Correctional Facility
Not a very good take on the Peter Green masterpiece, especially the vocals. The solos were disjointed and uninspired. They all missed the groove. It was pretty sloppy. RIP Peter and Danny. No one comes close to your shared vibe. ❤
Bob Welch didn't do this song good just like all the live performances he done with Fleetwood Mac. Bob's studio work is awesome. But for some reason his live is not that good

This was a really fine incarnation of Fleetwood Mac.

Completely agree. I still wonder what happened that night when supposedly Welch inraged Danny Kirwan, to pretty much go buck wild and get fired.

Bob Welch was brilliant.
He SAVED Fleetwood Mac.

Is that Christine in the background?😊
@tomconcitis9322 yes, it is
He had a good run, love Future Games and Bare Trees. Mystery to Me is also pretty good, but Bob Weston wasn't as good a guitarrist as Danny Kirwan.

I think Bob is great
Awesome guitar player

Thanks for all the info
Doug Graves ..???..oh Man that had to be a stage name ..surely..lol
I bet at this moment Mick was thinking "I really fired the wrong guy i 1972"🤣🤣
This is original by Fleetwood Mac black magic woman. I love the blues rock muisc of Peter Green best guitarists of Fleetwood mac
There is no replacement for the good old Peter Green .
I dunno he's pretty good 👍
But Bob Welsh saved the band going asunder !👍😊!
😂😂😂 no one could replace peter green, welch wasn't even good enough to make peter a cup of tea ....world's apart
I mean did bb King ever speak of welch??

Bob welch...fantastic on guitar
Picture quality is better than previous upload of this same clip 😊👍
Après le départ de Danny, le feu s'est éteint ...
Damn u can tell Bob was a student of peters sound. He did a fantastic job
In Peter Green from his Time of fletwood mac song...very Hood version..others but nice solo for exaple.
Damn....
how does this diluted tame weak version of this classic come up when I search, instead of the Peter Green classic version??

Great playing though. 👍
Totally different rendition from The Master Peter Green. This version seems to be more rock than blues.
Can’t beat Peter’s original…
The rendition you want is The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with Rick Vito on guitar and vocals LIVE.
Why did Doug Graves (the second keyboardist) wear a DISCO BALL for a jacket during this tour? LOL
They should have retained their dignity and called it a day after Bob Welch left.
carlos santana made this song his own though.

Not a bad effort but just doesn't have the energy and emotion of the version from '69.
Yeah it sucks compared to the Boston version
Never heard this rendition before…
I suppose Peter Green had left the group and replaced by Bob Welch?
no Bob Welch replaced Jeremy Spencer in 1971. the guys didnt get a replacement for Green, they made Kiln House with Danny & Jeremy in 1970

Mick fired Danny for sleeping with his wife.

BLIND rage? Bob had it in for Danny from the start. Doesn't change the fact that Welch was an embarrassment on stage. @@MrPeabody52

Probably issues with his giant glasses sliding off his face and his extreme combover.
