It's actually pretty close to the book, plot wise. Just some death times are swapped around. In my personal opinion, the ending that was written for the movie is better than the book ending.

This movie is based on the book The Cabin at the End of the World, although the adaptation changes a lot of things. You should watch Unbreakable, Split and Glass. For me those are Shyamalan's best movies and also James McAvoy was incredible in the last two. That's actually the reason why I preferred the book ending to this ending. In the book the couple refuse to sacrifice one another because if God refused to accept the death of a child, then that was no God worth believing in. The movie, on the other hand, promotes belief based on blind faith which runs counter to the point of the book, and is frankly a concept I do not support.
A surprising change considering M Night is not a religious person. A spiritualist albeit, but still.

Honestly I 100% get it. If you’re told you don’t deserve love and a family and then you find it and are told to abandon that for the ppl that hate you for it then why would you want to abandon it for them?

Yes, and no. They were the anti horsemen... Famine/cook, death/healing, conquest/leading, and war/forgiveness(Ruperts character). He really was about war earlier in life(malice), but you noticed after he swung once the look he had that people confused with fear was actually his new spirit controlling him. All of these people do things even if they don't want to like when the nurse came running in to be shot. They don't explain it as well as they do in the books but they're being controlled by a higher power throughout this.

Bautista was great. The guy has acting chops. I have higher hopes for his acting career than other former wrestlers have managed. Landing Drax and Rabban is a big deal, so it seems like things are good so far. This movie was a bit of a misstep, but nobody's perfect. And I say all that as someone who actually really doesn't care at all for pro-wrestling.
This movie was STUPID. I know you guys thought the idea was neat...but I've read the Bible...a lot. First, because I was forced to...later, because I wanted to make sure I understood my enemies.
So, really, any variation of any of the Bible, or anything like it, are just off the table for me.
On top of that...I'm just beyond sick of Shyamalan and his ego. He's done one movie that was reasonably good, and one that was mediocre...and the rest have been pure crap. Signs is still the worst (yes, even over The Last Airbender...seriously, what fuckin aliens come to a planet without suits covered in what is to them sulfuric acid? Would you go to Venus without a fucking suit? Fuck no, you wouldn't), but none beyond those other two are any good.
In a way, he's like an even more dull version of Tarantino...someone else with too much ego and too little skill...just, much more exaggerated.

The Haunting series, The Last of Us, Invincible, etc. are all amazing but there is one TV mini series that is still the OG... Lonesome Dove. If story and characters is your thing, this is the ultimate and it will completely wreck you!! Seriously, there is no way to guard/prepare yourself for the masterpiece that is Lonesome Dove.

The ending of the book had more guts, and that's what really took the bite out of this movie.
The two fathers weren't supposed to take a leap of faith* like Abraham did with Isaac on Mount Sinai, they were supposed to affirm their own values in a universe determined to be inhospitable to them.

Also the plot holes where if they decided not to kill themselves? Would it still break the seal by itself? If they had killed one of them, would it still work the same? My point is, they did have a choice to not do anything.

Plus the guy who was connected to them from the bar Rupert’s character killed himself first, he really could be setting them all up for his revenge. They don’t even question that though because they are all insane. Or just gullible. Group dilusion isn’t uncommon.
