Jessica was an anchorwoman in every sense of the word, Her unique style of reporting helped gain a trustworthy status among the American people and nobody comes close to the reporting qualities of Miss Savitch anywhere on our screens today. May god rest her soul.
Ms. Savitch earned her spot with NBC--at a time when women were essentially a novelty in big markets-she started in upstate NY, went to Houston and then got a chance to be at Philadelphia's KYW-TV where her reporting earned her an Emmy. She was then hired by NBC to be a Washington Correspondent and ultimately some anchoring duties. She actually worked on the NBC coverage of the 1980 Republican National Convention in Detroit doing interviews on the floor of the Joe Louis Convention Centre. Her personal life was a mess but nevertheless, she was able to blaze a trail for many of the female reporters/anchors that followed--all in all, not a bad legacy--RIP Ms. Savitch
I watched the 1995 TV movie called "The Jessica Savitch Story" that starred Sela Ward. The anchorwoman was killed in a car accident on a rainy night in late October 1983. I was about 5 "1/2" years old.
People have been complaining about the "media" forever. Even back in the 70's and 80's Republicans hated the big 3 news outlets because they thought they were biased. That's how FOX News came about. An entertainment organization that would feed Republicans and conservatives exactly what they wanted to hear.
A great finale to a trailblazing career. May you Rest In Peace forever, Jessica.
@Jules Randolph Great words!!! 🏆
Friday October 21 1983. It is hard to believe it's been 40 years. RIP Jessica.

Two days before her untimely death. Truly a pioneer in the field for women. RIP Jessica. Never forgotten.
@@mdonahue4683 She also looks beautiful here
Exquisite job here. She did end up going out on top, but tragically died two days later.

What a tragic loss. She was the best there was!
As a kid, I trusted her reporting. I was sad when I learned of her death. I was only 10 yrs old at that time.
I was only 10 as well. Was in 5th grade when it happened.

I was 9. Great reporter/anchor who's still missed. May she, her friend and her dog Chewy ( not sure if that's spelled correctly) continue to RIP.

And the opening voiceover on that sounds like it was Bill Hanrahan - not long before he retired from NBC.
She was prolly my favorite anchor of all time. Next Jane Pauley.
Back when the media had credibility. I haven't watched in years.
still does.
@@sillygoose635, no it doesn't.

If you dont watch right wing media , you can find good reporting
She's in top form here. I'm surprised her producer let her keep so many "todays" in the script. It's unnecessary.
She said it like three times. It was fine. She had to identify when the incidents she was reporting on took place.
"Golden Girl" as she was known
If it don't hang, then he can't bang
You can't hurt my feelings, but I like pain
