So, Nickelback?
Guy Fieri
Pretty much.
I knew Nickelback in 1996. They were an awesome hard hitting band back then. But then 9/11 happened and they became cringy corporate rock but without Dave Grohl’s sense of humour.
Hello, my music people. @Bartonovich52 I still get a bit angry when I recall that the disc in my head unit that got swiped out of my 92 Prelude was "The State".
The last good Nickelback album. I still usually have Worthy to Say in a playlist I’m listening to.

trust me in countries that got these in the 90s the owners were already ruining the rep long before the USA got them. You couldn't move for Colin McRae rally car replicas in the 90s in the UK and I was at uni with a guy who owned one and grenaded 3 engines in a year.
by 'grenaded' i'm assumign you mean 'sent shrapnel flying through the hood'?

I wish wagons would seriously come back... 5 speed manual, 4 cylinder turbo... oh and it has room for friends that arent short... yeah im in

@@ilovemanunited6179 oooh sounds it. I bet that car is a lot of fun.
Yeah, wagons are cool, and I would love to see them come back. This car is really more like a hatchback than a wagon, being pretty stubby in back. In the rest of the world there were wagons like this, but not in the US. Subaru could have called it a hatchback, but they were unfashionable in the US then, and almost all were very cheap, small cars.

Oh, relatable. I'll probably never have my Chevy Blazer too, at least not one in mint condition. Yeah a 4.3 Chevy Blazer would make me very happy.

I had a teacher in middle school who owned one of these (in 95). Had the rally paint job and the gold wheels, the whole shebang. You really nailed it with that opening. I woke up yesterday and had that exact train of thought, the fantasy of being able to go back, knowing what you know now. It's scary. One day you wake up and realize just how long it's been since high school, that you're not really going anywhere in life. You don't necessarily mind it, but you do think back to how you would've played things differently if you'd known this was as far as you'd go... Powerful thoughts and a fun review, thanks RCR as always.

RX-7 and the Supra stole the show for me.
Japanese: Gran Turismo
These looked great on the road here in Australia back in the 90's and still do today. There was a very limited edition coupe version too which was rad!
We had tons of NA coupes in the U.S. but the blueballs for anything with a turbo was absolutely real back in the day. Before we got the 2002 WRX, we hadn't really had any Japanese turbo/AWD sports cars since the Celica All-trac (GT4) went out of production in 1994. Thanks in large part to Gran Turismo, but also the internet, there was this huge grassroots interest in rallying and all things JDM. Subaru would've made a killing if they'd brought the WRX over one generation sooner, but i suspect they still made a killing bringing it over when they did.

I own a 95 GC8 and live in japan. Honestly this car is everything I wanted it to be. It's light, decently fast, easy to work on, and like all old subies quirky and unique with it's own personality. Also, great thing about the gc/gf is many parts from the gda and gdb work on them and are a great upgrade. I love these cars and I am so happy to see a great video on them!
I also lived in Japan... for a long time, but unfortunately wasn't into cars while there. Such a bummer as Gunma, Yokohama and even Osaka are easily accessible from Tokyo. I've looked into importing one of these but just feel weird about driving stick in a RHD vehicle.
How is it living and driving one of these over there? Can you actually rally them or is it pretty conservative driving for the most part?
Ugh...watching this video makes me really miss my 96 GF8 STI. Such a good car.
Tip for the future owner of this car: upgrade the coil packs and do the igniter delete, if it hasn't already been done. The old style EJ20G coil pack tips plastic degrades and cracks off in lots of little chunks.

2:30 that is an aftermarket suspension adjust FOR the Tein coil overs.... its not hooked up because the motors didn't appear to be present on the strut tops to adjust them via that controller.

Not in 2021. Bosuzoku is the new RHD.
You should find a 1991 USDM Turbo Legacy to review, they're not the fastest, but the ej22t in them is bulletproof and cold nearly as much boost as you want, and they're just a great car anyway.
Ive always preferred the underdog for some reason, still rocking a 1990 vr4 today.
I worked at a chemical plant once upon a time and would occasionally whistle (or hum) that song. There was a certain surrealism in those moments. Don't believe anyone else at the plant ever recognized the melody.
you described my love affair with these cars top to bottom from gran turismo to importable, i couldn't have said it better. I still drive my ej18 powered 93 impreza 790k miles and 6 inches of lift later but my heart belongs to the wrx wagon of yore.
Win this car -- it was only accidentally taken over the redline a few times in the making of this video!
Yeah, I cringed really hard when I heard that hahahahahaa
Redline is 7250 and fuel cut is 7700 ish. He was nowhere near that. Also the (almost) same engine in the sti revs to 8200 so no harm done there
@@Hunting_Party Why would be the redline so much lower than fuel cut? What's the point of the redline then?
Because this chump doesn't know how to drive. Peaking the revs in the wrong gear so when he leaves off they get bucked around to no mercy.
@@PSPMHaestros old Subaru rev limiter is weird. Bounces a lot. Like 500 rpm. If you reach 7250, it would go down a bit and bounce up to 7500-7700 and then down.

The opening bit really touches me
In my highschool years i have my friend, the girl i love and me often mingle together all days. It's really been my best days so far despite of having some sadness issue and pressure form being an asian highschool student. And because I'm a week man back then, me and my girl didn't have further development in our relationship. Right after my highschool years i go study abroad and got no chance evermore. I cry for that for almost every night for a few months.
Just if I can just man up, get more sleep and stop being week, I'm sure I could bring us a far better results for both of us and leave no regret.
I have two of these cars. A 95 and 98 2 door both with no sunroof. It amazes me every time I see one for sale, how much they end up sell for. Great cars, super fun to drive.
As a 1998 GC8 owner, I can totally feel your feeling, and you are right, there is no way to tune it lighter. And the way it driving is like you and the car bond together, not the car is driving you.

Random a$$ nerdy AF observation: the melody from roman's jingle at the end sounds suspitiously like a portion of the music from chemical plant zone from sonic the hedgehog 2 (as in if you overlay the vocals onto the bit of music, it would match up pretty much perfectly)...
This week I am dailying a 1996 Impreza wagon, 1.6 liter base model, bone stock. It has power steering, heated seats and tiny, paint matched, factory option Hella highbeams on top of the bumper, and 2 airbags. It has NO central locking, No power windows, No brake booster, No ABS, Drumbrakes in the rear, No cruisecontrol. Its like a corolla to drive, except noisier and all wheel drive, It has blanking plastic sheets where the fog lights would go, no spoilers and narrower wheelarches. Blue metallic and light gray cloth upholstery. Bought new by old lady at church one year after I got my drivers license. Now owned by my dad since many years after the old lady stopped driving. There is No Rust (!!), and passenger and back seats look never used, driver's is a litte cracked on the side. I fell immediately in love with it, it's the bare minimum subaru, pre-hype with only practical options added to the bare base. I like to think this old lady bought her last car, brand new, and asked the dealer for heated seats, extra highbeams for living in the forest, and chose 4 wheel drive since her hubby is too old to shovel the driveway as often.. raw practicality transportation.
This car turned my father into a diehard subaru fan, he then bough in succession forester, legacy outback, forester, outback, outback diesel and outback petrol CVT.
I had a 98 GC with some go fast goodies and gutting.
It was incredibly light and great maneuverability.

Ahhh yes, a regular car review to go with my breakfast, such delightful treat, for a cold and gloomy morning.
I would never, ever go back to high school. For any reason. No matter what the benefits, they couldn't outweigh the negatives
Same here. Never looking back.
It chills me to even think about. Sure, there were good bits, but I keep those in my memory and enjoy them that way. The bad parts I never want to think of.
I emphatically didn't enjoy high school either but lol I'm a grown man, basic everyday dude confidence and people skills would be a completely busted superpower in high school.

I think I feel the same, born in 1997. Too young to remember the "iconic" shows the kids before me watched, too old to do fortnite dances. I am stuck in a generational purgatory
Just wait till the inevitable nostalgia for Gnarls Barkley, and flash games, and vine and ... Cars(tm). Come to think of it, Ratatouille got a musical that started on TikTok, so the nostalgia cycle may be moving faster than usual. You will be pandered to eventually :)
My kids are too old to do Fortnite dances and they are Gen Z
My litmus test for whether you are a millennial is if you were a Harry Potter fan or used Facebook before you graduated... you’re a millennial.
@@Bartonovich52 There's almost this wired sub-generation of us Gen Z kids that were born 1999-2002, are too young to remember or were still unborn during 9/11, were too young to understand the issues of the late 2000s and early 2010s, and too young to fully relate to things such as Mr. Regular's '90s nostalgia. However, we're too old to fully relate much of our own generation. We grew up playing the Wii and earlier versions of Minecraft. We remember UA-cam being new and the cool kid in class had an iPod touch with Angry Birds, not an iPhone X or Apple watch. We're too old to completely understand TikTok but clearly remember Vine. Our early childhood soundtrack was the tail end of alt-rock, and we remember when Ke$ha was played on the radio alongside Paramore. Most of us graduated high school in the past two or three years, and I think either the Class of 2020 or 2021 will be the last of us to graduate.
I've heard this subset referred to as "Zillenials" and I'm not sure if we'll see much of a difference between us and the rest of Gen Z in the long run, but I definitely feel as though there is some kind of divide, especially when we're still so young.
