I just bought a 1996 husqavarna 371XPG, put new fuel filter, carb kit, n a new air filter. Thing runs like a top. Cleaned up the connections for wiring for heated handles for both front n rear they work amazing.
I ran mine yesterday at my sawmill. Trimmed and bucked up some big ol poplar logs to saw on the mill . Old saw is still one of my favorite saws to use . It’s a work horse! It and my pro Mac 850 are the two saws I’m not parting with.
As much saw work as you do, might consider doing a pressure / vacuum setup and see or eliminate the possibility of a leak somewhere else? I fought a saw for a number of times and finally found a pinhole in the fuel line. I’ve seen carbs leak at the gasket on the pump side, and a small tweak extra on the screws fixed it. I have found that the intermittent/ thought that I had eliminated it scenario was faulty…..had changed the fuel line on its twin brother and not the bothersome one. It’s gotta be some little thing that bites you in the skivvies. Have you a mighty vac? You will figure it out, and it’s not like you’re short on saws 😂😂😂
Great to see it's finally warming up there! Grabbed a couple pints of DGP bar oil in Dewalt clothes to try, then received a gallon as a gift for my birthday a few days later lol. Haven't had time to really test it out, but kinda hope I don't love it because of the price😁
Take those dead ones and half dead out too... I know you know, but I've tried to save trees only to find out the half dead ones were killing the good trees by harboring the pests. I have an 036 Pro, it is giving me fits! I just put new crank seals in again, its a new rebuild, but if you don't get those seals just right, well you know. Good stuff Tinman.
Nice video, glad to see someone from the saw community dresses up. Just picked up a 056 super from an auction along with cs-310,272xp,countervibe, and cs-3400. Can’t wait to get them in the wood once they are gone through.
Tin man just watch your video. I have an 044. O44. O56 had these saws since they were brand new and I still think that they would outrun any new saw. I have an o661 Had nothing but troubles with it the o44. I use the most dropped it out of the tree twice still run it. The only thing I had to do with these old change, clutches and spark plugs.
It's always golden to watch your videoes man! I have worked on an Husqy 42 Special for a friend wich also is acting up. I've replaced seals, intake block, gaskets, fuel-line, coil and everything. And it's still acting a bit strange, gonna check the case bolts next. Haven't even thought about them, thanks a lot man 😀 Also a bit exited to see what you're gonna do to the ol 044 when going through it, my money is on slightly optimised. That's one sweet saw😎
My 041 is kind of the same thing. Just rebuilt it but did not split the case. All other seals are new. And yet, it’s air leaky. Haven’t had a bar on it yet. Idles up when turned to the side. Then tries to stall when put back down.
I have a 55 rancher with spark and 150 psi, can anyone tell me why it won't even fire off? Fuel is fresh and I just have no clue why it won't even pop off at all.
If it has spark it’s not getting fuel. So with that said could be a plugged fuel filter, bad or plugged fuel line. Bad Carburator that may need to be rebuilt etc. Pour some fuel directly in the carb and if it has spark it should fire. Take the fuel filter off the line and pressure test the fuel line to make sure it holds pressure, if it holds pressure then You know the line is good if not it has a leak.

I've just rebuilt my 044 stock, good machine.
Beautiful day for cutting trees. Be safe my friend. 👍👍
double check the sleeve on the clutch side is sealing in the crank seal, ive had alot of issue with that bushing leaking on 044/440s
They origionally had an o ring behind it, but stihl removed that at some point during it's production. I put one there anyways when I built mine.
Definitely the best 70 cc chainsaw ever made of any brand and I wish that bar oil was actually available
Nah mate, that's the 372 ;-)
Of course the 365.
@@hilltopshitkicker sorry but my 044 has twice outlasted my 372, mag side crank bearing blew in the husky and took out the case....

Great video sir,
One of my favorite saws.
You and the family have a great week.
Thanks for being here !!!

Just fixed a saw acting the same way, Exactly....Happy trails
Great job Tinman... May be time to port that saw
Beautiful saw. I found a 064av near me I'm looking into. Any things on the 064av I should look at specifically ?
Another random idea, with your running issue, possibly a leaking base gasket not sure just throwing darts at the old dart board 😂
There we go Tinman, some cutting footage.. Nicely done!!! That should burn really nice next winter.. All the best to you and your family
Great to see it's finally warming up there!

You will. Any oil you could eat with and run a saw on to temp and over top temp. You can bet it'll be costly. But that's all in the makings of things.

Nice job tinman have you considered porting the stihl
Eh, 14:37 being an old short guy. When I'm felling, a 24 " bar usually works good. But when bucking, back to the 28" inch bar. Agreed.
Nice video Tinman. I like a 24" bar on my saws , but that's because I'm so stinking short!!! 😁
That thing cuts NICE! Good work and great content as always!
Can you tell I commented before watching the end? lol

That was o46
My 044 best saw i ever had!
Nice saw that stihl but that harv saw yummy... I'm drooling just looking at it...😂 TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
Love this saw, great video Tim. Keep trouble shooting! Keep it alive!
Did you ever have the cylinder off that saw. Maybe a base gasket leak? Cylinder bolts backing out?

Wish I had a big saw years ago when I was cutting alot of firewood!!
Ayyy Senor! Cha saw. Cha saw sounds kinda like a chit
No need to dress up to cut wood, Tinman! 😆 Haha, love that shirt.

Has anyone experienced this symptom and found a cause for it?
Halo boss... 😮😮 Mantap
I think a rebuild, split the cases and motoseal them, then you know for sure. Nice falling buddy.
Base gasket?
Yard work is the best work!
Will a 440 have a hard time with full comp chain on a 28 inch bar
Mine pulls a 28 nicely
Hey tinman did u check ur rubber o ring by the crank spacer on the clutch side
I was out doing some sawing with 572 today, ill have to get out the 044!
Heck ya 👍
The 044 is the best stihl I’ve ever ran. Not the most powerful but the most fun to run.
tank vent??
still gooder than good
KIIIAAAAA! CARTWHEEL!!!!
good size saw with a skip on dead Sprouse needs bigger wood
Check the coul wire...

She cuts eh!! Get it sorted, do a muffler mod just because and give’r!!!
Time to actually do a pressure/vac test. It definitely don't sound right
How's the Tinman and family
Cyl gasket leak maybe?
full skip chain 💪
that looks like very low compression for a 70cc - should not be that easy to pull over at start
