It's sad that so few people anymore can know the feeling of real and true brotherhood or team work. These videos go way beyond a couple of loggers tipp'n trees. The comradery shown here is long lost in most of so-called first world, society. I look forward to new videos from my subscribed logging channels more than any other topic or industry. It felt like this 25 minutes went by so fast. I could listen to those saws for hours and never get tired of it. Good running saws and of course well adjusted jakes from heavy loaded trucks.........🎵🎶
Your right nothing better than a good day of physical work it’s a great feeling leaving a cutting job at the end of the day there is no better feeling 👌thanks for watching and the comment 🤝
I have all four of my original 044s bought new two 10mm and a few years later two 12mm, I know at the time of the 12mm upgrade they said they had issue with the 10mm but I never have.🤔IMHO still one of the best saws Stihl ever made.
It is always pretty clear to determine who the real professionals are...... They work smoothly, calmly, and are never flapped by unexpected events. You guys are the real deal in every respect!👍
Nice job boys , I’ve been watching for a nice 044 /440 and a 036/ 360 to add to my stable . Love my 460 and 026 , got a power port job done from Madsens on the little saw and added a 25” light bar with WCS Dogs and adding a second port that comes today . Fun little firewood saw . Near mint , was my dads . Thanks fir the videos …
MM & you work so well together, accurate, safe and still having a great time together! there is a tone of skills to properly fall a tree! especially when it is leaning in the wrong way! or the wind is blowing the wrong way. still being able to fall the tree accuratly!
Theres nothing better then falling timber. I climb trees and drop trees all day then come home and watch you and a couple other guys do the exact same thing i did all day 😂😂. Nice work
The 044 was the first saw I ever ran back in the day. Not the best saw to learn on but it made ever saw after that seem like a toy. Just ordered some of your dogs and some swag. Keep up the good work men!
Could you please do a video on how you guys prefer to paint your aluminum hardhats? I put a WCS suspension kit in an old BF McDonald I had, and it could use a little paint or powder coat
Was given an old o44. The amish guy ran straight gas though it. Working on rebuilding it and add it to the work saw collection. What size clutch cover is the 044 sporting?
These are McDonalds 6 points from the early days you can still find them on eBay but the liners are shot most the time but we sell new liners and clips on our website westcoastsaw.com 👍
On the tree Mike cut around the 7min mark, his back cut is sloped real low on one side. I there a purpose to that? Does it make the tree act different on the stump?
It was a bad cut it sometimes happens when you back bar. If you push on the handlebars with the square ground chain, it will dive really fast and being lower than your back cut, makes it harder to hinge not a good thing
Great video as always. There’s only one problem there’s way to much time between videos. Keep up the great work. You two are like Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon, the perfect match. We just gotta figure out which one is who. ✌️
We have what they call a nail it looks like a little spike and you bend it over the tape in a L shape and just barely push it into the bark. That way you’re able to pull it out without breaking the tape but sometimes they get stuck if you push it in too far
I got into the game a little later, once the 441s came out. Haven't even seen a used 044 for sale, but if I do, I hope to remember that 13,000 figure. The 441 holds up great, but looks to only eat about 60% compared to yours. Two things that I haven't figured out 1) a technique to bring both face cuts together right. I get them to meet about 50% of the time on my first attempt. 2) at the 7:00 mark, I've seen a lot of back cuts coming in lower than the face cut. Was this intentional? If so, how does that effect the lay of the tree? Thanks for all your help G
It takes some time on the faces lining up we miss all the time too if it’s been a while sense I have cut and I am rusty I try to come up short “meaning leaving a little Dutchman”then I let the face pop out and then make another attempt or I trim the remaining wood We run square ground chain so a small trim is easy to do round grind is tougher The low back cut was not at all intentional it make it harder to wedge I think he was back barring and sometimes if you push on the bar and twist the saw it will dive fast with square grind chain so yes avoid low back cuts 👍
Yo Gordy, what's up? Spence here from Northern AZ. Would you be willing to make a video on the two gatorade bottles ya keep your fuel and oil on ya belt? and maybe what is a good 4lbs ax ya carry? also what bar oil ya use and fuel as well? Thanks. Blessings always. -Spence
My wife smashes my 500’s air filter cover with the he four wheeler the other day while we were making trails, I’m thinking about just getting your air filter kit and saying screw a cover, do you find the filters not attracting so much fines with out the cover keeping them enclosed ?
Has a jack ever jumped out of a tree, for you? It looks so unsafe to stand right beside it. Specially when the tree starts to move and the jacking continues, just to be sure.
Never had a jack come out The only danger would be if the jack wasn’t deep enough into the tree and it will split out and the tree could set back hard and go over backwards but if you are following the jack with wedges the tree will set on the wedges and your safe I feel jacks are very safe because you have total control of the tree
No better sound than the rattling idle sound of an old 0 series Stihl. No computers, no sensors, just badass!
Hard to beat

“I found the same piece of rebar, twice”
We’ve all been there man, we’ve all been there
Finding metal with your saw absolutely sucks.
I've got a Walker light bar too and absolutely love it. It's nicely balanced
Love that bel air green brain bucket!!!! That 044 is mint buddy

'Ol Mike can swing that axe! Great video, Gordy!
Nice work fellas. Great Ole 44. Runnin like a champ. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
Great add ons and equipment! Thanks, WCS! Hi Gordy!!
I love them 044’s, I acquired 3 of them from Major League Baseball hall of famer Lee Smith down here in Louisiana.
That sure looked like a fun backyard job for sure!
Nice work gordy!!!! Cant wait to try out my new 462 with my WCS Chainsaw kit!! Still have knee deep show up here in the North East!
Love the snippets. I enjoyed watching that days work. Y’all made it look effortless, just another day. Great job.
Stay safe
044… cut a lot of timber back in the day with one of those! Great saws!
Nothing like watching videos by, WEST-COAST-SAW!!
Thanks for the info about the crank sizes on the 044s! I've seen a few forsale that I'm considering getting.
Awesome Video Gordy!! 👍🏻👍🏻That's a very cool truck!! 🛻🛻
Thanks 👍

That motor sings the sweetest lulaby.....❤
You’re lucky you have that saw the 044 was a great that Stihl built.
I regret selling my 044 big mistake.
That 044 seems a little "hot" I approve!
I have an 036. Really rips. Great era for saws.
“You cut er’ you buck er’”
Well put 💯
Could you please do a video on how you guys prefer to paint your aluminum hardhats? I put a WCS suspension kit in an old BF McDonald I had, and it could use a little paint or powder coat
We get ours done at Beideman’s cerakote BBCG.co
He has done a bunch for me and he’s got any colors you can think of does a really job and it holds up
@@westcoastsaw1368 ok good to know thank you
That old 044 sounds good
Beautiful cascade of chips, nice job on the chain sharpening ala Jack Beeler!!
Mike's new hat is friggin sharp!
You should definitely do a tour of your shop, saws, trucks. It would be very cool to see
Never knew about the serial number thing with the crank, thank for that and another cool video Gordy.
Edit: and the little extra drop at the end.😆
The “let’s finish this dam thing” 😂
Good looking timber for backyard trees! They get cut up into firewood, or was there enough to send to a mill?
Yes they went to the mill 👌
Was given an old o44. The amish guy ran straight gas though it. Working on rebuilding it and add it to the work saw collection.
What size clutch cover is the 044 sporting?
Another awesome one Gordy! I enjoy the content, but your products are even better!
I appreciate that!
The goats! (PS we still need a truck tour Gordy 😘)
Are you using skip or full comp chains, if you don’t mind. I see the trees are smaller . So I’d think full comp with those great running saws
We are running full skip square grind
Just like Raquel Welch....the old saws never stop being sexy....
I got my axe made by Jeff Schroeder with your handle on it love the axe handle amazing job
Good job....in staying safe and avoiding timber into a roof...
044 Great saw❤😀👍
This is the best one yet
Good ole 44 beautiful saw
I still run my 440, are they pretty much the same as a 044?
Kick ass dude, that is 44S are screamers. I still have a couple myself that I like to run. invest in a chain choker. They are pretty sweet.
A little stubborn trees but went great! 😎👍🏻
Might be mentioned in earlier comments but is it a 10 mm 044!?
12mm
I dig the 044🇺🇸
I watched the WHOLE thing
Might be a reach but id love to come fall some timber with you and Mikey
Hey Gordy great video.
How do like that walker bar been wondering about them.
Thanks
Yes they are doing well
@Westcoast Saw awesome glad to hear that.
I will have to order one up thanks.
Great products you make by the way I run them almost daily
@Gordy, dangit I had to buy my 661 filter from somewhere else. When are you going to finish up yours? 🤪
🤘😎✌️
Nice seeing how well you work together. Sorry Mike's chains are so rockgnetic
How do you like the Walkers Bars?
Thanks for the helpful information
Great job. Thanks for the info. On the 13,000.
Was the 044 stock port or has it been ported?sounds wicked
Great video Gordy,, I seen that Mike wasn't smoking his pipe today lol!
Where do you fellas find them tin hats?
Madsen’s In Washington State has them. Probably Bailey’s in CA as well.
These are McDonalds 6 points from the early days you can still find them on eBay but the liners are shot most the time but we sell new liners and clips on our website westcoastsaw.com 👍

Does West Coast Saws sell those jacks? Haven't seen them, and would love to have a couple. As always, way to make timber.
Borntrager tree jacks best jack to get hands down
This is an old 45ton Silvey
Perfect. Thank you.
Hey, nice video! How are the walker bars holding up please?
The bar seems to be doing well, but the tip did not hold up. I replaced it with an Oregon and everything’s good now.
@@westcoastsaw1368 thanks very much for the reply! Is the tip the same as the oregon or did it require modification?
What do you use on the end of your tape measure to hold it in place to make measurements? I enjoy your videos!!
We have what they call a nail it looks like a little spike and you bend it over the tape in a L shape and just barely push it into the bark. That way you’re able to pull it out without breaking the tape but sometimes they get stuck if you push it in too far
Typically a horseshoe nail that comes with the iconic Spencer logging tape. Bent around the rectangle end in the tape.

I use to but Tanner is doing them now he’s Awsome 👍

Good work boys I was a tree surgeon myself
Is that 044 quite a bit lighter than a 461?
Is that saw just the older model of the new 440?
Nice cutting 🇺🇸
