I worked for Yves Saint Laurent and Dior Haute Couture, EVERYTHING was hand stitched..Chanel suits machine the lining to the tweed as it acts as a lining and interfacing at the same time...and the incredible difference in their weight and flow allows them to work together once the garment is completed. I later worked at Thierry Mugler when he did Haute Couture and some was machine sewn, but all finishing was by hand!!!
Is your sewing machine backwards? Very informative video. There's a video called "The Secret World of Haute Couture" that is really interesting. There's another long one about the making of a Dior coat that's wildly informative. You see every step.
Thank you! Can't wait to check it out :) As for the sewing machine being backwards: I often record on my phone with my front-facing camera, so that I can see what I'm doing, which makes things look backwards unfortunately.
I wonder about the "hardiness" of completed ready to wear vs haute couture garment. I rmb someone telling me that you wouldn't necessarily throw a hand finished garment into the washing machine even if the fabric is machine washable just because of how delicate the hand finishes are. Do you know if that's true?
Too bad that haute couture is so expensive. It looks amazing on the wearer though. I do a hybrid sewing of better construction. If my garments are compared to fast fashion, then I don't save money by sewing it myself. Compared to high end ready to wear, I save a bundle and get exactly what I want. I get a big rush from planning each piece and sewing it. Biggest rush is when I finished. 😊

Amazing! Have you ever considered making videos or a podcast talking about your experiences? (Or maybe you're not legally allowed...)
Thank you, Alex. A well-made garment is a piece of art.
I make jeans all model but what I see in your video is another world very beautiful and very clean

Makes sense. Washing machine would misshapen such garment. I would only hand wash it and dry flat, or dry clean it.

💯💯💯👍
I don't see that the couture way of including a lining, is in any way better than the way that ready to wear is constructed.
