- Hey friends! Welcome to a "Day In The Life" med school / med student vlog where I take you on a tour of what it's like being a First-Year Medical Student at the University of Sydney, Australia. We're in our last block of the year (Cardiovascular), and this was a typical practical day in the weeks leading up to our final exams. I'm still new to this whole vlogging thing, and trying not to care if I look weird lugging a camera around. Enjoy!
👨🏼⚕️ WHO AM I?
I'm a medical student studying at the University of Sydney / Sydney University (USYD), Australia. I document my life in medical school, vlog my experiences outside of university, and also share some tips about medicine interviews and the admissions process. Oh gosh this brings back so much memories. I graduated from Sydney Uni at 2011 from the Faculty of Arts.. I went through the same passage as you've shown in the video almost everyday. I wish you the best of luck with your medical degree journey. You will make a fine doctor, undoubtedly.
A subber, from Malaysia.
Keep the great vids coming!
Aww you've made my day! Thanks Ary, I hope you had fun during your studies :)
All the best! More videos to come ✌🏼
mcm mana nak blaja luar negara?
Wow! This video was made so well ! Good luck with your studies :)
Thanks Tarvala!! ☺️
Best medical course in Australia can you tell me? Please
Nice luck 👌👌👌❤
Hiii ❤❤what is your name
Aussies are so laid back, even a day as a med student seems pretty chill.
Your university is so beautiful. The histo lab practicals are really high tech as compared to our uni 😅
It’s a few buses and few trains for me too. Respect for the travel time dedication in an already in-depth field.
Wow, was not expecting to see a hyperlapse when I clicked on a video about University. Props mate
OMG, this video has bring back some memories when I was studying in UNSW. Graduating my master degree on 2015, and currently reading my PhD back in my country, Malaysia. I have visited USyd several times, the architectural style building and ambience are so cool! I wish you all the best for your Med School!
Great story, thanks for sharing! USYD definitely has a nice ambience. Hope you're PhD is coming along nicely, take care :)
Your uni is so beautiful. You should do a college tour!
I can only wish that my med school here in the Philippines is like that of yours lol. We are not really allowed to skip classes as our school is quite strict about attendance. Also, we cannot wear civilian clothes. But I love the fact that we have white uniforms and red and gray colored scrubs with our name on it ☺️

Don't worry, when he's a intern or JMO all the nurses will froth over him.
I found this video in the right time, I'm planning to study medicine in Uni of Sydney
Love the video dude!!
Defineity a Sub.
Good insight on the day of the life of a Med Student, keep up the hard work mate. 👌
Thanks for the sub! Much appreciated 😊
Well produced vlog, good stuff man
Thanks Sota :) Glad you enjoyed it!!
Can we just take a time and appreciate the work he put into this video, the visuals, angels lighting etc ... wow amazing how 👏💯
Really loved this video! Do you have any tips on what I should look out for (libraries/affordable places to shop for groceries/events etc) during my first few weeks of uni? Will be starting my course there next month!
Glad you liked it! That’s exciting :) For studying, Fisher library is the most well known and it has 9 levels of study spaces. The law library next to it is really nice if you can find a seat. There’s also plenty of learning hubs around campus - I spent a lot of time in Brennan MacCallum during undergrad. For food, there’s a broadway shopping centre next to Victoria park, and Newtown is always a good spot for cheap eats :) Have fun with your course!
Thanks for a great morning start for me. Really appreciate your work in the videos.
Loved the vlog❤ Its motivating yet calming at the same time :)
You’re not weird you are beautiful, keep shining!
Great content mate! This is the first video that I've watched in your channel, and definitely won't be the last one!
Thanks mate! A lot more to come :)
Love this video! ❤❤ It would be lovely to see a video about GAMSAT tips in the future! you are amazingggggg
Thanks so much Tiff!! I'm planning to do some videos about GAMSAT soon 😊 Are you planning to sit it next year?
I am a physician in the US. Entire education here. I am surprised at the loose structure of your day. I started class at either 7:30 or 8:00 am. We spent the entire day on campus, usually within a single building. Day’s end depended on the class load. Some classes ran 20 weeks (anatomy, physio, biochem) to as short as 7 weeks (neuroanatomy). Usually done by 4:00 pm at the latest. Medical school in Kansas City, Missouri. Monday through Friday only.
Kenneth is not wrong. Just go to Cabra is the best advice for food. Western Sydney is where it's at!
I've always wanted and dream of studying in sydney. Well, maybe soon when I get to finish my school. I'm going to take bs nursing...
Good luck on your studies kuya❤ I know med school is hard but nothing is impossible when it comes to your dreams:)
Feels weird seeing you go to the same places I go to almost everyday
And Sydny just Rocks
banging intro dude, that was so good.
Hey sebestian ....I need your vlog on
How to get admission into University of Sydney.?
Great video sebastian!
Cheers!! Appreciate the support 😊
You have a really good quality video!
Hopefully, I can meet you in the campus
Great Video Sebastian
I have a question how much do you spend daily as a medical student?
When’s the Stay Sharp polo merch coming out?
One day! 😂 I'll need someone with creative design, maybe you could be that person 😏
Can u tell me about the fee stracture of mbbs in Sydney university
hey loved the video ! I have to questions: 1) does the uni of Sydney do UNDERGRADUATE medicine and 2) could you make a video on living expenses as a university of Sydney student ? Thanks 😄
I can answer the first one (even though I'm a HS student)
Yes, USYD offers undergrad medicine although you need a 99.95 ATAR and a few other prerequisites (as far as I'm aware)
www.sydney.edu.au/medicine-health/study-medicine-and-health/undergraduate-courses.html
Here's a link to their undergrad med courses if you're interested. The much easier option is to do a bachelor's first (3 yr) then do your doctor of medicine (4 yr). It's a longer time but easier program (Bachelor of Science is only 80 ATAR and Band 4/E3 in maths then medicine with the only requirement being that you must have graduated with a bachelor's in whatever)
Hey , sebastian why you are not uploading new videos
Cool vid man! Do you go to a 4 year graduate MD school or do you go to a 6 year MBBS undergrad? I know Australia has both. I’m a 1st year Med student in the US and I like reading about other countries’ systems
I'm doing the 4-year graduate MD!
How I can join your university
We went to Sydney last year and I miss using the Opal card. Cuz when we were there I was allowed to go out on my own from McQuarie to the Circular Quay. I miss Sydney btw love ur content.
Loved this video! Is it all shot on the SAME camera? if so, which camera do you recommend for vlogs?
Hey sebastian nice video ❤️🎉
Don’t answer if you don’t want to, but what did u get in your GAMSAT?
Sebastian Pirie Plz could u do some vids on the gamsat as that’ll be helpful
@@mihirgandecha It's on the agenda! I'm planning to post some GAMSAT videos over summer 😊
@@SebastianPirie I agree, I know it's probably the last thing you could be interested in talking about, but us poor pre-med students would appreciate it. Thanks
I really enjoyed your Vlog. I just moved here from the U.S. last Oct. I will start teaching next semester. :)

Hey! I've been watching your videos and I'll start my study this august so can you recommend me some places to look for accommodation? Thank you and all best luck for your study!:)
I don't live near campus so I'm not too sure 😅
The university website would be a good place to start, and the uni offers plenty of student accomodation through colleges or unilodge :)
Sebastian Pirie thank you for the info!
nice i miss sydney a lot
good luck bro
Make more day and life videos please bro
How many days a week you go to university?? And is it possible to work on weekends??
I have class on campus 3 days a week, and 1 hospital day. As for work, It’s definitely possible - I worked most weekends this year (although I wouldn’t recommend it during exam periods ☺️)
what were you writing your notes on? what application were you using? x
Skin care video please
Hi Sebastian,
Wow, more information into a medical student life.
I am a registered nurse, have a master in nursing in Diabetes education, but always had a deep desire to do medicine.
Want to follow my desire.
I am in my late 30 ‘s.
Have a family.
Always fearful if following my desire will heavy affect my family.
If your about to give more details about exams , study class etc.
Also
Need more information like preparation for Gamsat.
Hi there! There are plenty of people who have started medicine coming from a nursing/non-science background, and many who have had families. I'd suggest checking out the university website for details about the course structure if it would work for you. All the best :)
Hi I am also going to do early entry for University of Sydney for medical I just did my HSC and I have waiting for my ATAR hopefully I am able to get in 🙏🙏
Hope the results go well :)

Can you do a video on how a specialist doctor from India can find a job in Australia?
Which Microsoft Surface do you have? Where did you get that sick case with the orange windows logo?
so you're not able to do part time job as a med student? cuz you don't havd enough time
I wish I could have studied medicine at Sydney Uni. Damn autism!!
my lectures are 25 mins walk and i still feel its far. how does he do it?
Imagine meeting u on ur placement in RPA
How do you usually take notes during a lecture? I find myself writing 3 sentences and just listening.
It depends, some lectures I'll just sit and listen because the lecturer is really engaging. Others I'll annotate the lecture notes on my iPad, or create questions for myself to review later :)
I wish to be here 😭😭

Campus life is very social - there are plenty of different medical societies which are all very active. Every year, they seek new members to help organise seminars, workshops and mentoring events.
As medical students, are you guys obliged to take corona vaccines?
