Ingredients: 1 octopus, cleaned and beak removed water for boiling Salt and pepper, to taste 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil Juice of 1 lemon Instructions: Thoroughly wash the octopus under running water and remove the beak. Bring a pot of water to a boil, reduce the heat so the water continues to simmer. Dip the octopus into the water three times, then submerge it and boil for about 20-30 minutes per pound. Check with a knife to see whether the meat is tender, and continue boiling until it is. Remove the octopus from the water. In a small bowl, make a marinade by mixing together the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Place the octopus in the marinade and refrigerate for at least a few hours, or overnight if possible. Preheat the grill to searing temperatures (around 400-500 degrees). Cut the octopus into pieces, and grill until it is crispy and charred. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Cooked it and it was amazing. I recommend adding some mangos and chopping it up into a bunch of small pieces. The mango absorbs the flavors while excreting it’s flavors.
i really like this video. it didnt seem so fake like other cooking video's. He was honest and said some pieces could have used a bit more char. Very Nice
Tnxs for the great tip about cooking an octopus 🐙 ,, I was under the impression that it was a very difficult task to accomplish it ,,,,, I will try your way next time !! Tnxs again 👍👍
I’m on vacation in Aruba and caught an octopus. I cleaned it like you said and I have it simmering for an hour now. I’m going to keep checking to see if it gets tender before grilling. Fingers crossed
Just fried up my first precooked octopus parts in plenty of hot regular butter, it was delicious, the sour note really helps, since I had no lemon, iadded some dill and tarragon after leaking before serving, works like a charm.
In the US I think octopus is a scary mystery for most and not something we think to grill but I’ve had it in restaurants and it’s amazing…..so going to give this a try this weekend. Great visual tip to cut off some of the tips while grilling so they don’t get too charred. Have t seen other recipes where they marinade it put I’d imagine the lemon further helps to soften it up. Thanks for exposing people to new things!
Wow amazing is that even possible to make it that tender? Some people say if you cook octopus for too long it will become tough and rubbery. What if i have 2lbs. Octopus and boil it for 1hr and then grill it. will that become tender and soft? Im really afraid to try.
The grilled Octopus I've had was an interesting flavor somewhere between scallop and lobster. It's delicious but I've had no idea how to cook it. Now I do, thanks!
Afraid of grilled octopus? This is the way that the Mediterranean countries have been eating it for centuries...its actually the top food of our summer !!
bought my octopus and had no idea how to preparate. couldn't imagine, that it is so easy. hope it goes good. Just wondering how i can eat a whole octopus alone😆
I have often wondered if wrapping the thinner end of the tentacles in foil while grilling will stop it from being burned to a charred crisp. It seems to me the thick parts usually turn out beautifully seared but the tentacle tips end up turning into pure charcoal.
Thanks so much for your video! This looks delicious! They have octopus at my Italian grocery store. I'm going to try this today. Hopefully they have some for sale!
It depends on the weight. We grill the octopus on coals fire. The temperature has to be medium. You will understand when it’s cooked and of course you can cur a piece to taste it. Good luck

@@stefanvanderweele1 lol good,,also instead of brushing them with marinade on the grill where you get flare ups and most of it goes to waste i would take the pieces off the grill and put them in a bowl that holds the marinade ,this way they get evenly coated and no wasted marinade, you can then toss them back on the grill

Followed your recipe (not 3 hours cooking or boil to long)and marinating now and will grill tonight and can’t wai5 with the caramelized lemon as it’s dressing and we will have it as an appetizer and with Maine lobsters tonight and great chalk hill Chardonnay and make a salad of it if any leftovers. Tip I got next time when you buy it leave it in the plastic bag from the market and drive over it with your car once or twice and it will be more tender 😌😋
It tastes like chicken! LOL Great video...simple is the best! I haven't made octopus since the last time I was in South Florida but that is exactly how I did it too. Have you tried gator tail? Casablanca Cafe in Ft Lauderdale used to have a wonderful grilled version as an appetizer. I think it was prepared in a similar fashion.
I used to do it like that many years ago.I've found out that most of what he does is unneccsary.I strongly believe that octopus should never be boiled .Europeans have problems with chewy octopus just like Americans but the texture of octopus is chewy naturally. If it's very soft and tender, then you eat something soft but the taste is not octopus at all.
Sounds like you did a great job. I had this served at a restaurant in Costa Rica, and LOVED it! Should you cut the tentacles off of the body first, before putting in the marinade and then grill it? Any difference? Also, I noticed you put the marinated octopus back in the marinade after grilling it. Is it safe to do that? Thanks and GREAT job!
I am going to upload a new video with Octopus next week and I’ll cut off the tentacles first. Easier to move around and grill. Marinade, the marinade is after boiling the octopus so it’s fully cooked at that stage. The grilling is just for that bit of texture, crust and Smoky flavor. Totally fine to put it back in the marinade or pour the marinade on top.

Grilled octopus need flame to get crunchy and catch the smell of smoke. This is the Greek way, Salonica way.
