    Out of all the guides out there for beginners, this one is my favourite. As a person who picked up the game a couple of days ago, I like how you slow it down, explain what things do and give your thought process. 10/10 take my upvote.

    This is such an awesome guide to the game it has to help even the player who played the game for quite some time. In my case I had NO IDEA that I could begin building a district and then switch to building anything else, yet have the cost locked in. Wow. Now it actually makes more sense to build Settlers earlier and generally adds more value to them

    that's right. Eagle warriors _cant_ make a builder out of an enemy who kills itself attacking you.
    nor can they make a builder out of a barbarian in any case
    They can, however, make a builder out of a free-state's unit.

  • @uzernamefail

    I think Aztec is a mixed bag as a beginner civ for the same reasons you mentioned Rome. Having a really strong early UU encourages early aggression (which the Legion also does), but instead of extra culture Aztec is getting more combat strength off of luxuries, which lets you take fights that you might not normally want to take with a warrior.
    You know who I think a really good beginner civ is? Germany. Not so much because they're easy to win with compared to other civs, but because they're only slightly better at essential things like production/warfare and won't teach bad habits in the same way other simple civs might. New players aren't immediately going to get +6 Hansas up and running, but it leaves the potential for optimization there as you get better at the game. That said, played to their full potential, Germany IS one of the strongest civs in the game, so they can become a crutch on higher difficulties as you start dealing with powerful AI civs.

      I wanted to avoud civs with non-straightforwars bonuses or ones that change how you play significantly. Aztecs bonuses are really straightforward even if they change how you play in the early game.

    • @View619
      @View619 6 років тому

      Rome would have been a better beginner civ, imo. The free monuments encourage players to settle many cities, a core strategy of Civ 6, and the Legion is versatile enough to focus on either aggression or defense (building a Fort to defend your territory) which is important since the AI is more likely to declare surprise wars in the early eras. Montezuma forces early game aggression in order to make the most out of your leader choice, while early game aggression isn't actually required to do well or win games.

    • @masterzedd4
      @masterzedd4 6 років тому +1

      the best beginner civ is actually Norway. The reason is because they get literally no usable bonuses, so, you get a very basic feel for the game.

    just got done(before seeing this playthrough) w/a crazy good start. 3 different luxuries early so +3 to my warriors. just bumb rushed Rome and Egypt. Rome I didn't even have slingers or archers. Egypt was even easier. Slowed down after that b/c the others civs were on the other side of the map so went straight culture.

    At timestamp 28:35, why did moving that eagle warrior put the city under siege? I thought your units needed to be next to the city to place them under siege. I'm reading a bit about units and zone of control and hoped someone could explain why in this specific situation. I've played Civ very casually for the past few iterations and have recently gotten much more into it(really excited for the Gathering Storm release) so trying to learn more about these intricate mechanics to better my gameplay.

    Quick question. Are there any big disadvantages to play the game on Quick or "multiplayer" speed? I mean, for that speed I know that the strategy for acquiring boosts for civics and science inspirations have to acquired with knowing which are speed related boosts. But are there other less obvious but important difference beetween playing standard and quick speeds?

    I feel bad because I've been trying several times to beat this game with a science victory on the settler difficulty and I keep losing! It's not like I'm getting attacked or anything, the game just doesn't isn't enough time to achieve the science victory! I guess I'm just managing too much instead of focusing on what's needed to get the science victory. It's frustrating I got the defeated screen twice now even after I thought everything was going well! Everything was booming and advancing… Then it just says game over! I guess I take too long! I'm also unsure about when I should build certain districts. Which one do I build first and where to build it? I don't know the locational benefits of various districts.

    • @DatGitGhaz

      No, grassland hills won't give you the two production. Founding a city will give you a base 2 food 1 production. But the plains hills have 1 food 2 production. Because of this, when you found your city, it will raise the food output to 2 but retain the 2 production. Grassland hills will just stay at 2 food one production.

    • @PlankDot
      @PlankDot 6 років тому +1

      Lol I don't understand your comment but for the things I understand I will answer. Most games end in around 400 or so turns. Choosing what to build first is up to you for the most part. Choose whether you want to be offensive or defensive. Best method to do any win is to pick a Civilization that has a special thing with that win. Most civilizations can't get every win so it is better to focus on one win a game. The average time depends on how long you spend on the game so there is no set amount of time a game takes.

    • @PotatoMcWhiskey
      @PotatoMcWhiskey  6 років тому +1

      There is a lot of variables the decide how fast you win the game so this is not a simple question to answer.

      I don't tend to decide my victory condition after a while into the game.
      The first step is to explore, and expand into good places, founding new cities. You can also expand aggresively, when you're out of space, by waging war into your neighbours.
      Now you have a good grab of land, try to develop your cities properly. Your victory condition will depend on your civilization bonuses, as well as the resources you have available (for example, if you managed to get some good locations for science districts and good production, you can try to win a science victory).
      That's almost it, although remember that if you want your civilization to have a religion (I always want, even if it is suboptimal) you have to start with Holy Sites early, in order to grab a Great Prophet to found a religion. If you don't have your own religion you can't win a religious victory. That would be the only exception, I think.
