    The pad on the back of the Country Gentleman guitar, covers an access cover installed to fit the wiring loom. This was necessary due to the lack of 'f' holes through which these components are normally fitted.

    Gentlemen,
    Thank you for covering the wonderful Gretsch guitars. I own several and have had other musicians comment how much they didn’t know what Gretsches can do. I’ve played straight up Blues, Rock and Country with my 6120s and White Falcon. Thanks for all you do for guitars!

    Thanks for the explanation of the Gretsch bracing pattern. I haven't seen anyone else explain that and it is the real basis of the Gretsch sound and the explanation of why the Gretsch hollow body models sound better acoustically (un-amplified) than any other electric guitar. Mine is a G5420T and I like it better acoustically than any acoustic guitar I have ever owned.

    The trick to changing strings on a Bigsby is taking your thumb up to the ball end of the string and bending it 90 degrees. Makes it stay in place so it's stupid fast to change on a bigsby equipped guitar.
    Gretsch guitars are amazing. I hate the mud switch though, I love clarity when I play so I never use it on mine.

    Always like the your jams, keep it coming. The reason for the "pillow" on the back of the vintage gretsch is to prevent the back of the guitar from being destroyed by the elaborate belt buckles popular with southern country gentleman in the States.

  • @drutgat2
    @drutgat2 6 років тому +1

    George had two Country Gents - one of which had the string mutes as shown here ('flip' type), while the string dampers on his other Country Gentleman operated by being screwed down, as opposed to being flipped.
    Unfortunately (in my opinion), George ended up hating Gretsch guitars, because of the "thin" sound, and stopped using them. I bet that Gretsch hated that, although after The Beatles appeared on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' Gretsch accrued something like four years of back orders.

    The vintage select has a pinned bridge too.The Players has a no load tone pot. Tv jones classics on the vintage. Both have treble bleed and Paper and oil squeezbox capacitors. The 6120 would benefit from being issued inplayers edition, and this would make it more into Country gentleman or tennessean territory.Apart from the String through Bigsby and locking tuners, other models are almost the same. They did mention Brian Setzer though, but no mention of Neil Young, and not a word about filtertrons.

  • @mrfreetv

    Chet Atkins never used the string mutes. It was just more gimmicks used by Gretsch back in the day and aimed more towards players that couldn't mute the strings themselves. Gretsch loaded down their guitars with all sorts of gimmicky stuff for visual appeal. Gretsch did away with that stuff later on. Gretsch are undeniably great guitars though and very collectable although they don't command nowhere near the prices of vintage Gibson archtops. They do have their own unique tone which you may love or not. They look fantastic too.

    Really nice guitars, every one. The Country Gentleman is the coolest with the dampers that no one ever uses. I'm just starting to get into Gretsch hollowbody guitars. I wasn't willing to afford a new Pro series so I bought a nice used 6120 2002 in blueburst (and gold plating that's wearing off) from just before the Fender "takeover" in 2003. I tried a lot of Electromatics before I decided that it had to be a Japanese made Gretch or nothing. Unfortunately, I'll have to deal with old school issues like the old Bigsby string pins, floating bridge and no locking tuners, but it's worth it to have a real Gretsch.

    Nice video boy's, those guitars are so musical, but when I think of Gretsch and the fifties, apart from Chet Atkins, and country music, I think of Eddie Cochran and Duane Eddy with Rock 'n' Roll. although Eddie Cochran fitted a Gibson P90 as the neck pickup and the tremolo arm was fixed in one position, imagine that, if you were just strumming you had no choice but to play over the neck.

    29:49 I think you will find that there is a cavity plate behind that pillow. It's how you get to the electronics of the guitar as there's no F Holes to poke things through.
    32:58 The reason why the Player version is thicker on the Country Gentleman might be that they need to poke the pots and switches through the F Holes and need a certain depth on the body to get them in?
    35:15 "Honey, the eldest kid has a job at McDonalds....they don't that yet but.... here's this guitar" Should work?

    Have to say was originally looking at Gibson semi's but even though Gretsch's are made in Japan (at least the one's I'm looking at) seem to appeal to me more. Maybe because I'm more of Fender tele fan & the Gretsch's seem to have a similar twang that you can not get with Gibsons! Gretsch's are definitely appealing to me more these days.
