Today Mick and Pete compares the Gretsch Pro series to the Player series.
Mick is plugged into a Victory Sheriff 22 and Pete into a Fender hotrod deluxe.
Thank you for watching!
Pete, Mick, I freakin' love you guys. Thanks for showing us all kinds of cool gear I will never be able to afford.. Cheers!
Love you too Jonathan... Thank you dude. P
haha thanks for the love! Keep on rockin'
The pad on the back of the Country Gentleman guitar, covers an access cover installed to fit the wiring loom. This was necessary due to the lack of 'f' holes through which these components are normally fitted.
Gentlemen,
Thank you for covering the wonderful Gretsch guitars. I own several and have had other musicians comment how much they didn’t know what Gretsches can do. I’ve played straight up Blues, Rock and Country with my 6120s and White Falcon. Thanks for all you do for guitars!
Just a personal opinion but Gretch's guitars are just the best looking guitars.
Even their solid body guitars are beautiful. I hope to own one someday, and to play their hollow body guitars would be awesome.
Beautiful guitars and love the sound of them as well.
I agree, but Düsenbergs are pretty too. in terms of the Bling bling factor.
Ich Binsnur I agree with that. They are great sounding and looking.
Mick is like the perfect sidekick for everyone!
When Mick's involved, you know is gonna be good!
I really love the videos put out with Pete! :D
It does my head in when people are negative about these type of videos or someone’s playing.. The videos are useful and someone’s gone to the trouble of making it.. So if you want to be negative... keep it to yourself....or watch something else..
yeah! Mick and Pete finally
Mick and Pete are starting to grow on me. Appreciate their playing together. I like Chappers and Lee, but Chappers always going into metal shredding mode is starting to wear a little thin
PatrickG I like their playing the most, not that I don't like Chappers or the captain tho
Mick and Pete deserve a big raise in pay!
18:10 Agree about Chet Atkins. He was one of only a few guys who could push Les Paul in his prime. If you want someone in modern era who plays as similar to Chet, check out Tommy Emmanuel.... Tommy was a disciple of Chet's.
Man, this is great, guys! Long time Gretsch fan, so I'm so glad to see a Paradiso video on them.
Thanks for mentioning my hero Chet Atkins who designed Gretsch guitars nice to see two young guys like you two who appreciate Chets guitar playing
Yep, Chet was a pioneer in many ways, including sweep picking (which he called "superlick"). It's great to see him mentioned and recognized.
got myself a gretsch black panther and i just love it. There such amazing guitars!!
chet was head of RCA , he created the Nashville sound for nearly every country artist.
Thanks for the explanation of the Gretsch bracing pattern. I haven't seen anyone else explain that and it is the real basis of the Gretsch sound and the explanation of why the Gretsch hollow body models sound better acoustically (un-amplified) than any other electric guitar. Mine is a G5420T and I like it better acoustically than any acoustic guitar I have ever owned.
AAAAAWWWWWWWEEEEEE YEAH!!!! that opening jam!!! Mick and Pete... you guys are my faves!!! definitely make me wanna upgrade my gretsch game from my electromatic to a player or pro. ROCK ON!!!
One of the great Gretsch players was Poison Ivy of The Cramps.
probably the best and most informative video I've seen Andertons do, thanks
Hands down THE BEST Gretsch demo on the internet. These guys nail it. Fucking hilarious and explore the tone of the guitar with just the right amount of levity.
nice to hear a shout out for Billy Duffy! ! I love his sonic mayhem! this video just made me luster for a white falcon all over again!
That opening Jam was on FIRE! Keep it up.
its a miracle that they didnt mention brian setzer in a video about gretch , the guy is always involved with gretch
+big b We think they do mention him, just once though and you have to watch the whole video to find out when ;)
13:18
+The10000lbGorilla hahaha shit made me laugh. Foiled Captain!
WHAT IS IT GOD DANG?
ILL TELL YOU WHAT IT IS
ITS....ITS A PSYCHOBILLY FREAKOUT
sorry then probably missed the part
I'm with you guys. I love Gretsch, but their catalogue is MAD annoying. So hard to figure out what the differences between all these.
Get a white falcon. Period.
+neun Arme no can do. I'm the "small arms" they make fun of in the video. Just doesn't really work for me
I’m feeling a 6118t in beautiful two tone green. I’m salivating just thinking about it!
You two are fast becoming 2 of my favourite players.....and I've even bought a Gretsch similar to Mick's !
18.52 What a way to begin a solo. great job
The trick to changing strings on a Bigsby is taking your thumb up to the ball end of the string and bending it 90 degrees. Makes it stay in place so it's stupid fast to change on a bigsby equipped guitar.
Gretsch guitars are amazing. I hate the mud switch though, I love clarity when I play so I never use it on mine.
Du spiller fedt Peter!
Yeah, the mud switch is pretty useless.
doing it for months and is the best thing to do but i put on 10's i really don't like standard string size i just dont like it lower gauges have a flow and brighter gingle to em that i like
Lovely tones and playing guys.
Well done.
Chet practically invented sweep picking and tapping. Check out a live video of "Orange Blossom Special" for some squeaky clean multifinger tapping.
Always like the your jams, keep it coming. The reason for the "pillow" on the back of the vintage gretsch is to prevent the back of the guitar from being destroyed by the elaborate belt buckles popular with southern country gentleman in the States.
George had two Country Gents - one of which had the string mutes as shown here ('flip' type), while the string dampers on his other Country Gentleman operated by being screwed down, as opposed to being flipped.
Unfortunately (in my opinion), George ended up hating Gretsch guitars, because of the "thin" sound, and stopped using them. I bet that Gretsch hated that, although after The Beatles appeared on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' Gretsch accrued something like four years of back orders.
I really like the ton of the orange one
The vintage select has a pinned bridge too.The Players has a no load tone pot. Tv jones classics on the vintage. Both have treble bleed and Paper and oil squeezbox capacitors. The 6120 would benefit from being issued inplayers edition, and this would make it more into Country gentleman or tennessean territory.Apart from the String through Bigsby and locking tuners, other models are almost the same. They did mention Brian Setzer though, but no mention of Neil Young, and not a word about filtertrons.
Fantastic demo with lots of useful information for a Gretsch newbie. Thanks, guys!
And that's why you have to buy all of your guitars in the exact same colour. Your wife will never know the difference if they're all white for example :p You can buy as many as you want until it starts to become obvious there are 57 of them :p
This is sound advice! 🤘🏻 🎸
Waaaay cool. Love it when you can hear what the guitar can do.damn those guitars are off the chart...
even distorted they sound great. love throwing distortion/crunch on my electromatic
A+ for mentioning Billy Duffy! Can you do Sounds Like The Cult?
Mick and Pete together again, things are as they should be. You guys are missing out on a lot of money by not recording/touring/performing together more.
Nice shirts fellas!
Mick playing some killer rhythm guitar.
Dammit, I meant to watch this video, but I looked up that great Chet Atkins video and thanks to that I've now spent who knows how long binging on Jerry Reed...
I think this is the first time the shirts have been appropriate to the guitars being played :D
Don't forget Pete Townshend! Almost all of The Who's discography is played on a 6120, and Pete is the king of rock guitarists.
ThomasWilliamsMusic only thecWho's next album, because Joe Walsh gave Townsend a 1959 6120, which he smashed on top of the pops but it was saved by Bob pridden and repaired and eventually bought by Johnny Marr, where it is now I'm not sure
great playing guys
Chet Atkins never used the string mutes. It was just more gimmicks used by Gretsch back in the day and aimed more towards players that couldn't mute the strings themselves. Gretsch loaded down their guitars with all sorts of gimmicky stuff for visual appeal. Gretsch did away with that stuff later on. Gretsch are undeniably great guitars though and very collectable although they don't command nowhere near the prices of vintage Gibson archtops. They do have their own unique tone which you may love or not. They look fantastic too.
Great guys, great players!
Great playing!
When it comes to gretsch guitars i've always wanted the Gretsch G5445T Double Jet. I really love the look of that thing
I had one, played great and sounded awesome!
but, neck dive like I've never experienced. Traded it
I don't really need it to be hollow body so Im good with that.
I would have to try it, but I really a bedroom player so I wonder how much it would bother me, especially if it sounds great like you said.
+OverNightGaming
Yeah, I got it to play out, sitting down it was fine. I've heard of people putting weights it the cavitys of SGs to balance them, I should have tried something like that. I do miss it
Really nice guitars, every one. The Country Gentleman is the coolest with the dampers that no one ever uses. I'm just starting to get into Gretsch hollowbody guitars. I wasn't willing to afford a new Pro series so I bought a nice used 6120 2002 in blueburst (and gold plating that's wearing off) from just before the Fender "takeover" in 2003. I tried a lot of Electromatics before I decided that it had to be a Japanese made Gretch or nothing. Unfortunately, I'll have to deal with old school issues like the old Bigsby string pins, floating bridge and no locking tuners, but it's worth it to have a real Gretsch.
Gretsch are the unsung hero of rock guitar. Let's face it it's the rhythm guitar sound on the biggest selling hard rock album of all time!
out pf every electric guitar theyve ever played here i like this one the most
Karlo Klanac the dusenberg 2016 were pretty epic. My right now fav is a gretsch but I think duesy could win me If i had one
These guys could play a paper bag with strings on it and it would sound great! Awesome guitars. Thanks.
Nice video boy's, those guitars are so musical, but when I think of Gretsch and the fifties, apart from Chet Atkins, and country music, I think of Eddie Cochran and Duane Eddy with Rock 'n' Roll. although Eddie Cochran fitted a Gibson P90 as the neck pickup and the tremolo arm was fixed in one position, imagine that, if you were just strumming you had no choice but to play over the neck.
I just realized that Mick is also on that pedal show lol
Watch Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed playing Jerrys Breakdown
Seeing Chet Atkins sweep pick is amazing
Pete, Mike great stuff, please do a review on Gretsch Streamliner series, obviously is not top of Gretsch and maybe not for guitar paradiso, but for other it will be great, thanks
Gretsch does a thing that ONLY Gretsch can do and they do it better than anyone else.
TRUTH!
We want more!!!
Great Job guys! I just bought my first Gretsch jet, but seeing this review, I really like the player model! But can’t find it for sale anywhere in the same colour you show hear???
Reverend Horton Heat!
Ah the dynamic duo is back again
"and gretch guitars also do this", and boom , fuckin rock n roll
my favorite series :) you are the best Guys!!
Fun Fact: Chet Atkins actually Does finger tap on his Gretsch. On youtube, Orange Blossom Special
29:49 I think you will find that there is a cavity plate behind that pillow. It's how you get to the electronics of the guitar as there's no F Holes to poke things through.
32:58 The reason why the Player version is thicker on the Country Gentleman might be that they need to poke the pots and switches through the F Holes and need a certain depth on the body to get them in?
35:15 "Honey, the eldest kid has a job at McDonalds....they don't that yet but.... here's this guitar" Should work?
Have to say was originally looking at Gibson semi's but even though Gretsch's are made in Japan (at least the one's I'm looking at) seem to appeal to me more. Maybe because I'm more of Fender tele fan & the Gretsch's seem to have a similar twang that you can not get with Gibsons! Gretsch's are definitely appealing to me more these days.
awesome Guys!
The mudswitch on the old US Gretsch' were very muddy. On the japanese they have changed the value of the capasitor so you can actually use the switch and get a not so muddy sound.
watch chet with jerry reed playing Jerry's breakdown and he sweep picks in that
Watched it MANY MANY MANY times :). Inspirational stuff.. P
Even better, find a clip of Chet Atkins playing with Tommy Emmanuel.
Chet Atkins - Fingerstyle Guitar Medley on UA-cam he said I owe this guitar everything and he is playing a Gibson
Let's not forget Merle Travis! The inspiration and idol of the great Chet Atkins!...
Of the first two guitars, Mick says Pete's playing the 6120, but what is the slightly smaller version he's playing?
Magnum and Higgins playing guitars 😜 !!!!!
Pete playing a Before you Accuse Me variation in the beginning?
The pro has amazing sounds
Pete somehow looks so match the Gretsch!
"Remember, 'member, 'member, what a womble, womble, womble you are..." 🤣
Pete and mick were the best combo
Another great show! Keep em comin'
Pls do a video on the new Electromatic line! (Preferably the G5422TG)
Is this the first Paradiso video where Peter hasn't had some sort of injury? :-)
The zero fret is the best playing neck Gretsch has.
What video camera(s) do you guys use?
Nice shirts fellas
I do believe that the link in the description is not working as intended. Says there are no products that can be displayed.
works fone for me
Press the Search button (magnifier icon) manually, it should help.
working now.. thanks.
John Frusciante was known to play a Gretch one or twice too
he played it on californication, otherside and a few other songs from that album
Sweet!!
Oh yeah mick back😎
If you guys haven't seen Doyle Dykes play, start youtubing that guy, it'll blow your gray matter right out of your skull!
Can these guitars be used for jazz?
Any guitar can be used for anything. I’ve played more thrash/punk styles with a 335. Guitars aren’t limited to one genre just because they’re popular in certain styles.
what's the name of the song around 18:00 again ?
I'm a gretch beginner
Was that a subliminal frame at around 6:49 ?
okay so the guitars sound nice but just imagine a wah pedal being used. wah pedals everywhere.
So has air conditioning not made it's way to the UK yet?
It's something we'd need for about three weeks in a year.
They have it. They just turn it off while they film because they don't want the extra noise.
Yeah no one has it, except in cars or hotels. It's generally raining and cold so no point
Generally not practical to install in our old buildings either.
Chet was head of RCA Nasville.
Love you guys by the way.
Didn't you mention the zero fret on the Pro???
Around 22:40. Sorry, I know I'm 3 years late with this comment.
Painted on F-holes are a disgrace.
No feedback
F-hole stickers on the other hand
I agree. Painted F-holes look cheap. It would look much better without these.
Agreed. Curious you say that about these. They are real f-holes. Not painted. Save the last one.
they've had them for years, chet was the first I have painted F holes
I actually find the 'vintage' Fender mustang vibrato harder to restring than a bigsby! It's so stupidly designed.
It's pretty much the same as a wraparound Gibson tailpiece isn't it?
