  • In this video I show the repair process for a Shure PGX2 wireless SM58 handheld microphone transmitter with power issues. This involves complete disassembly and soldering a replacement mute / power switch to the main board. It's a relatively easy repair if you have reasonable soldering tools and experience. If not I would suggest finding somebody who does to complete the soldering step to avoid any potential damage.
If you have this issue then the main symptom is usually that the microphone will randomly turn itself on and off, mute or not power on at all. The switch may also work only at one side or when pressed hard for example.
The switches are readily available to buy online reasonably cheap (£5~), I purchased these two from eBay so I had a spare to keep.
This process is very similar for most of the Shure PGX2 series of handheld transmitters with this body style.
This is just a quick random repair video I chose to make when in the workshop in the hopes it could help somebody out, This seems to be quite a common problem with age on these handheld mics.
