      They butchered both bodies in 93 year and above. Sickens me. They looked like a washtub. Total shit. And the millennial clueless who grew up w bubble civic hatchbacks thought the 93 was hot. Was shit total shit looks. Trans am was worse like an ugly ass batmobile w a dash as long as a floorboard. Sad ugly fucking things in 93-2002

    I graduated college in 1991 and I remember this generation of Camaro quite well. The 270 HP 5.7 liter was Yuge in 91/92. I was driving a potent (for then) four-cylinder with a gobsmacking 105 HP. Nowadays, 270 HP seems quaint. We live in the 2nd Golden Age of Horsepower.

    • @FoDaddy
      @FoDaddy 4 роки тому +5

      The 270HP tuned port 5.7L never made it into production chief. The L98 topped out a 245 HP in F-body duty.

      a 14.3 1/4 isnt going to "wax" any comparable fox body

    • @BEBNC1
      @BEBNC1 6 років тому +11

      Trap speed indicates that it likely w.ould The G92 5.0/5.7 TPI Camaros were already taking out Foxes with ease. Only real competitor was a stripped down LX notch back. The Camaro got a bad rap because of all the economy TBI engine options. Properly equipped TPI Camaros were as potent as the Foxes. The Foxes were a little lighter...which certainly helps.

    • @paulhudson231
      @paulhudson231 6 років тому +4

      Not quite accurate, BEBNC1. The 5.0 TPI Camaro was quite a bit slower than the 5.0 Mustang - over a half-second slower to 60 (6.7 vs 6.1) and could not get into the 14's in the 1/4. Even my 91 SHO could beat a 5.0 Camaro to 60. The 305 was never a performance motor - the skinny bore and small valves hurt the breathing. The 5.7 TPI was a little faster than the Mustang, but was only available with a slushbox, not a proper manual, and cost about $6,000 more than the Mustang. 6K in mods would make the Mustang quite a bit faster.

    These 3rd gens are one of the best handling F Body's out there alongside the 4th gens. These cars cut corners with precise and perform even better with a few suspension modifications. The F Body's will forever be missed.

    • @jsciarri
      @jsciarri 7 років тому +8

      I absolutely agree. Own a 2001 WS6 for many years now, and still amazed on how well it handles today. The 2009 and later Camaros are nothing like the original F-Body.

    • @TheReaperLSX

      I know man those 5th gen Camaros were nothing like the great iconic 1st through 4th gen F body's and same here I own a 2000 Trans Am and it handles like a dream cuts those corners and curves with very little ease on the wheel. The 5th gens were honestly my least liked Camaro they tried to do a retro throwback to the 1st gen's but was just a failure I never liked that boxed Zeta platform Styling. F Body's for life

      how is your lt1?im sourcing one now for my car(1986 trans am,5.0/5 speed),i dont want an ls like every other tom,dick and harry and i can get an lt1 for a song in comparison.i love 3rd gens,ive owned 6 of them.

    • @TheReaperLSX
      @TheReaperLSX 7 років тому

      I have the LS1 but the LT1's were very great engines and swapping them into 3rd gens is definitely the way to go and they put down sooo much torque more than horespower which is insane. The only downside to the LT1's was the optispark and it can get damaged from the smallest things and you may need to get a replacement but other than that the LT1 is the way to go :).

      It wasn't a cop engine, transmission, or tires. The engine was the Vette's L98, Police Camaros don't come with a 6 speed, and the tires are also rom the Vette. Chevy should have produced this car but they were ramping up for the new (1993) Camaro, and didn't was to step on the new Camaro's performance numbers.

    Except they didn't get any of that, just the B4C Special Service Package and the 1LE RPO codes. The L98 was still left detuned with iron heads for the remainder of the 3rd generation until 1993 when the LT1 was introduced, it never got siamesed intake runners as shown either, but it was an available aftermarket mod. The ZF 6 speed was a no show, though a T56 can take its place fairly easily, the 700-R4/4L60 was clearly the performance transmission as it was the only option available for the L98 to handle its torque. Never got the Corvette gatorbacks, nor the black multispoke wheels, they just retained the better looking (IMO) 5 spoke anniversary wheels. To find one with both B4C and 1LE RPO codes is extremely rare, but it comes with the benefits of what those packages have to offer, including A/C and aluminum driveshaft! Some light, cheap tuning and suspension upgrades can really call out the 3rd gen's potential, the rear control arms alone can be beefed up for less than $100. Camaros are simply sports cars with truck parts.

  • @1flynlow

      1flynlow they did use the corvette LT1 engine on the new Camaro that came after this generation. But yea I agree with you they should have used it on this model year Camaro but still 270hp from that old corvette engine was really good back in the day, heck to me is even good for today and if I remember correctly I believe it made more hp then what the corvette made with that engine which only made about 245hp in the corvette, so not bad.....but thank god for the new LT1 that came in the corvette in 92 with its full 300hp

    Basically, they built this L98 engine almost to LT1 hp numbers with the Corvette's ZF 6 speed. Beautiful package for the RS Camaro, but to build something to these specs or better in a 3rd gen package for maybe cheaper, drop in a T56 6 speed with an LS whatever. Me personally, I would probably stay close to this car's specs and probably modify this L98 even more probably with just bolt-ons. Heads, cam, stealthram intake, and long tube headers instead of the stock exhaust manifolds that are on this car, or maybe drop in a modified LT1 but people are really sleeping on that LT4 engine that came in the 1997 SLP Camaro SS. Got my imagination going wild. Lol

      Good point! By '92 everyone was ready for the LTx motors, but then by '98 we got the LSx motors and now are incredibly spoiled :) The L98s are great but run out of breath at 4500 rpm on cue. My grandpa had an '87 Vette L98 and it would be great off the line, and even with 2.59 or 3.07 gearing it just didn't have any high-rpm surge. The LTx motors brought peak power to about 5500 and the LSx motors got it to 6000 ('97 Vette LS1).

      There were all sorts of crazy test mules running around the Milford proving grounds. The testing engineers could raid GM's cookie jar (parts bins) and put together insane combinations of drivetrains. I would say 90% of what these guys got to do would not even feasible for actual production. We could only have dreamed they did.

    Found this Camaro with 383 Stroker with 35000 original miles and pristine shape!! Owner wants 15k or best offer!! Any comments??

    • @eaglefat9398
      @eaglefat9398 6 років тому

      offer him $5,000, extremely low miles on a old car is not always a good thing rubber needs to flex or it will dry rot, and cars have rubber everywhere body grommets, coolant hoses ,A/C heat system, ball joints,weather striping, gaskets, other gaskets, and few more gaskets . Any moving metal parts could have seized and rusted together then later broken apart but it will leave pitting and scoring like in the cylinders, brakes fluid gums up ruining the brake system, water pump=bad, radiator=bad, need to flush the block cause its going to be full of rust, gas tank/fuel lines are going to be gummed up with varnish=trash, and thats just scratching the surface without getting into the interior or transmission. Sitting is one of the worst thing for a car, if you have one now start it up once a week and drive a few feet and let it come up to full temperature, i sure wish i did my Pontiac had all those problems plus some after just sitting in FL for 5 years

      I believe this car went to the crusher. They made 3 or 4 prototypes 1 got crushed 100% sure of that, another 1 was turned into a crate engine test mule painted yellow and GM putting their ram jet 350 into in the late 90s. The other ones I have no clue

  • @MrGoodlet
    @MrGoodlet 7 років тому +1

    Interior was designed with an etch a sketch. The camaro almost always out performed the mustang but the camaro always suffered from two things. The corvette and the fact that gm never stayed with a formula, looks wise, price wise and simplicity. Even going out of production for years. Ford sticks to the formula, fun, fast and cheap. Long hood, short deck. Etc... These camaros were great performers but they looked like the corvette's little cousin. That's why the mustang historically outsold the camaro, as well as being more affordable.

    Changed the corvette engine how? The 350 is the same size out side as the 305. The 270 hp came from a hotter cam. They didn't make this car because the new LT-1 engine that came in the 93 Camaro. Would have had a redesign engine that only made 5 more hp than the old.
