I made hotteok with my sourdough starter! One of my fillings was kimchi and bacon with cheese. If you want to convert instant yeast to sourdough starter it’s about 100 g of fed starter to 5-7 grams of instant yeast.

I wanted to try making hotteok for quite a while and now there's no excuse not to make some. 😄 I am not from Korea and actually where I live, we don't have all the ingredients, which are used in Korean dishes, and because of that it's very hard to cook some traditional korean food. Update on my attempt making hotteok. It took me more than few attempts to shape them correctly but I finally did it. I made the nuts/sugar recipe first and everyone loved them. The second batch I cut back on the sugar to 2 teaspoons, used walnuts, almonds and pecans. I mixed in enough Nutella just to hold the mixture together. Both were delicious so next time I'm going to make the savory hotteoks. Thanks so much for these great recipes. I just finished watching your new video for tomatoes and we ate looking forward to breakfast tomorrow.

I am a big pototo lover so I will try the potato hottoek. Also, it has the fewest ingredients for the filling. Always easier to do. Love that you showed your pup in the background
I just made them for a culture proyect and as we chose South Korea we decided we were doing Dalgona and Hotteok, Today I made them and they taste delicious( my mom just helped me cooking them and keeps calling them "Gorditas dulces coreanas" 💀💀💀 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽). They are stunning, they my new hit. I did changed the recipe just a bit using almond milk and coconut oil instead of butter(because some students are either vegan or lactose intolerant). Overall, everything came out perfectly and I'm actually glad I gave them a try! I'm surely doing them again for some future party or something! (Sorry if I have some grammar or spelling mistakes, as I commented I'm Mexican, therefore English isn't my maternal language)

When I lived in Korea I LOVED the classic hotteok. It was only sold during the fall and winter months. I can't find it anywhere in the States, but now I can try it myself.

Your video got me searching high and low but I can't find anyplace that makes them. So I was going to make them myself but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. I made too much charoset for passover and decided I might make hotteok out of the leftovers so I cooked the charoset until it was dry and it made a lovely filling! I got the inspiration from your video and another UA-camr I follow, and I'm so glad I did. Saved me from wasting food, and my kids think hotteok are great. Will definitely make the usual filling soon!

So this is what it was! Hotteok! For ages I’ve been wondering what were those amazingly tasty dumplings I tasted and kept coming back for more when my daughter’s high school was having an international night. I remember the guy using that tool to press them down and all. I kept going back so many times that he got sick of me! 😂 few years later after my daughter came back from her one year teaching position in Korea I ask her if she realized what was that food we ate in her high school to no avail! @Aaron and Claire OMG, I didn't know I needed these in my life! I have made stuffed biscuits for years, not knowing I was almost copying hotteok. Now, I want to do the frying and pressing with that, as well as making my own dough. I have also wondered what to do with instant mashed potatoes, to use them before they go bad, so the final recipe helps with that! And I can use regular cheese for my husband, Vegan cheeze for me, and not have to have a huge hassle with separate cooking pans. I will be adding Kroger's Bac'n Buds to both of ours, maybe some frozen,, chopped broccoli, and I will fry them in a Vegan butter.
I miss hotteok so much! I live in Canada and don't get it much anyways.. but there was some REALLY GOOD ones in a bakery, but it's closed rn, you know, because of corona -_-
I've been making potato cheese hotteok for the past few months now, whichout even realizing😅. But I basically eat it at least 3 times a week because I love it so much. It takes a lot of time and effort for me, and since I'm pretty busy at the moment, I didn't make it for like 2 weeks (:( ). But the effort is worth it. They are really delicious and filling. I always put sesame seeds on top, because I love how it tastes combined. I also cut a hard boiled egg into pieces and lay in on the plate as well. Perfect!

Now, I want to do the frying and pressing with that, as well as making my own dough. I have also wondered what to do with instant mashed potatoes, to use them before they go bad, so the final recipe helps with that! And I can use regular cheese for my husband, Vegan cheeze for me, and not have to have a huge hassle with separate cooking pans. I will be adding Kroger's Bac'n Buds to both of ours, maybe some frozen,, chopped broccoli, and I will fry them in a Vegan butter.

I've been making potato cheese hotteok for the past few months now, whichout even realizing😅. But I basically eat it at least 3 times a week because I love it so much. It takes a lot of time and effort for me, and since I'm pretty busy at the moment, I didn't make it for like 2 weeks (:( ). But the effort is worth it. They are really delicious and filling. I always put sesame seeds on top, because I love how it tastes combined. I also cut a hard boiled egg into pieces and lay in on the plate as well. Perfect!
