By necessity our militaries specialise because we all have limited resources. This makes us even more dependent on each other. And, frankly, given what sort of leaders we have, we are not so dependible.
Ur not gonna win anything when u let ur leaders ship all ur industry to China u ding dong that's ur own fault😂😂😂😂😂
Asks military man how to solve a problem and he will always, always say that more military is the single solution.
I seem to remember a time where interviews were more of a debate. There was even a time when people of opposing ideas could sit down and have a discussion.
The real problem is leadership. Both parties are deeply influenced by the money coming from foreign sources.
Both Tory and Labour?

That incorrect Mr Wong

No, of course not. The USSR caprured what it wanted.
The Finns provided for some good memes but lost the war. The same is happening in Ukraine.

Dead Russians lying dead with food in their mouths

The current situation cannot be compared to pre 1914; at that time in our history we had the world's largest, most pwerful navy. At present we have a few rowing boats sequestrated from the local boating lake!
Thanks, Telegraph.

My only dispute with this gent is that we can ramp up defence AND act responsibly toward the environment, as both pursuits stimulate the economy.

It’s depressing hearing an ex- army officer talking about effective combined operations whilst knocking the other two services. By implication saying that the RN and RAF have sufficient equipment and personnel, which is clearly nonsense. The entire Defence budget is insufficient given the current threat. All three armed forces are under equipped and undermanned and we are not well served by armchair ex-warriors trying to stir up inter-service rivalry.
British Army officers are not immune from tunnel vision. If their senior officers think they are going to mastermind ops in the next conventional war they are sadly mistaken as their only large force experience is on PowerPoint and whiteboards. 70,000 troops actually means at best 15,000 combat troops barely equal to the manpower of 1 US division but having barely the tank and artillery units of one third of one US armored brigade.

An exhibition of captured military hardware from NATO countries that kicked off in front of the Victory Museum at Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow features 32 units of various armored equipment.
"The exhibition presents various examples of seized military equipment which were captured by Russian servicemen in the special military operation zone. In all, there are 32 items," Andrey Lyubchikov, senior researcher with Russia’s Central Armed Forces Museum, said.
For instance, the exhibition features a German-made Leopard 2 tank, an American Abrams, a Bradley fighting vehicle, М113 and MaxxPro, a Turkish-made BMC Kirpi, a UK-made Mastiff, a CV90 combat vehicle from Sweden, as well as many others captured by the Russian servicemen during the special military operation.
The exhibition also displays firearms, documents, maps, gear and drones.

LOL Comedy Gold.
However, smarter fighting is required. WW I style trench warfare massively favours Russia, so cleverer tactics are required. Unfortunately, in large measure, Ukraine is still playing Russia's favourite wargame.
Ukraine 🇺🇦 gave up their nuclear weapons in accordance with the Minsk Agreement. Putin broke the agreement. The West should replace Ukraine's nuclear weapons with something similar to what Ukraine had.

Once autocracy takes hold, it's hard to dislodge. The information space needs to be fascist-proofed to prevent future tyrants from rearing their ugly heads.
With current tech it never ends.
Creating an information space to suit your preferences is a staple of fascism. It is an unbelievably slippery slope that democracies will always struggle with.

No shovels, no power... this guy can be talking all day long!
If we only have 70,000 personnel in the army, then it confirms my LONG HELD (20 years!) SUSPICIONS, that we need to QUADRUPLE our army, QUADRUPLE or navy, and (at least) TRIPLE our airforce! The ONLY WAY to do this is to bring NATIONAL SERVICE back! Bring back the military disciplines that built this country! This will also provide manpower for CIVIL institutions that also need staff! The NHS, agriculture, the care sector, and MANY OTHER aspects of British life! Give ALL immigrants, legal AND illegal, the OPPORTUNITY to EARN citizenship with 3 years SERVICE! I have been plotting this solution for the last TEN YEARS!
Agreed but unlikely that our politicians have the backbone to implement.
Just a bloody good show eh govna? Maybe u should stop being americas little poodle and think for yourselves again.... dont u think that's a good idea? Cheerio!
One key balance act overlooked is the conquering country absorbs all the resources of the dominated country and used to take the fight forward. The battlefront struggle seem balanced currently but should Ukraine yield, all Ukraine resources (arms and men) will be absorbed and used against neighbouring countries. They did that in the Donbas oblast forcing the remaining population to fight against Ukraine. Russian fighting power can snowball from strength to strength. By the time it reaches France and England, it is not just Russians tanks and men, It will be ALL of Europe's tanks and men vs UK.
Actually , well before Donbass seceded, many thousands of Ukrainian, Russian-speaking military switched camps. They took themselves and their weaponry/equipment to Donbass to join the militias and fight a civil war. The same thing happened earlier in Crimea. It was these deserting Ukrainians wearing no insignia who were labelled in Western press as "little green men"

The WEST should have acted sooner, as in the time when Pootin took Crimea. Europe was wedded to fossil fuel that Ruzzia was happy to supply, but in doing so - the West / Europe gave Pootin the green light ( and little green men ) to do what they went on to do. Appeasement never works.
There is too much talk about tanks. We need to think about long range air defense, long range attack missiles, anti drone defense and then off course drones which was discussed.

This war could have been stopped in April 2022 but the Istanbul deal was nixed by NATO with Boris Johnson being the one who delivered the news to Zelensky. That deal didn't involve any loss of territory for Ukraine but Ukraine was to be neutral with no NATO presence and to stop abusing the ethnic Russians living in Ukraine.
