As a city girl from Chicago I really appreciate this video! I lived in Phoenix and I totally understand what u mean by downtown being a ghost town. I would say the same about Atlanta. Only really city people get it!
That's just how all the south Is. We don't go downtown. Alot of our culture originated in our communities. We do more in our communities than we do downtown
I subscribed off of this one video because of how honest I seen you were. I watched this just to get some info about Dallas. It usually takes a couple to a few videos before I subscribe. Your a great UA-camr, very truthful, organized, and straight to the point!!!
Dallas and Texas is more laid back and not hustle and bustle. Plano and Frisco are cities where you have shopping and bars close to each other but not walking distance. People here like to get out and move around and don’t care that things aren’t very close to each other……also most people don’t want night life where they live. If you want nature then parks and lakes are your only option. I’m surprised you were surprised of super wealth neighborhoods considering the GDP of the Dallas area and Texas which are very high. Try to meet people in a different area because it does make a difference. You forgot one big advantage about living in Dallas and Texas…..no state tax.
2023 and I’m moving to Dallas. I work in tech and it’s a pull. I been in Dallas and Garland and when I was there for just a few days I felt like I would thrive and prosper there and raise my family. So I’m going to see what’s up.
Texas was a part of Mexico and that wasn’t too long ago in terms of history, so it makes sense that they’re culture would have a strong presence there.
This is true but Dallas was a traditional black and white city from its foundations. It had slaves. This Mexican presence just came in the last 30 years with Mexicans Running across the border in record numbers. And also coming here , having five and six babies apiece. Dallas roots are purely southern
@shortyshorty2135 do your history. My family have been in Dallas for generations. And I know what I saw growing up till now. Black and whites were the majority in Dallas. I would even argue there were more blacks than anybody. There were some Mexicans. In Dallas right now as we speak the majority of Mexicans there are illegals that can't barely speak English or don't speak at all. White people and black slaves founded and built Dallas. These are facts. And you know why people don't like nobody but they're kind so they were not letting Mexicans live in Dallas. Most of Texas was uninhabited land in Texas did not just belong to Mexico it has belonged to six different countries which is where you get Six Flags from most of the people that established Texas came from the Deep South which is why we speak Southern here and the natives are Southerners. As I stated before Dallas's huge Mexican population has only come here in the last 20 to 25 years when I was growing up I saw almost nothing but black people and a few Mexicans even the schools were like this go back and study your history
Nice video! DFW is so big in one year, you may think you have seen a lot, but probably not. There is so much to that big place metroplex. Many cities to discover, Plano, Frisco, Grapevine, Southlake, Westlake, Hyland Park, University Park, Heath, Preston Hollow, McKinney, El dorado, Fairview, Keller, Rockwall, Rowlett, Prosper, Addison, Richardson, Carrollton, Fort Worth, Denton, Lewisville, Arlington etc. Once you get to know the place, you might end up liking it more
@@Jeschitown Let us give give the young lady a break, she is just learning more and more about this big, fat, popular metropolitan area. She could have moved to Chicago, but Chitown wouldn't be good for her mental health (too cold, too depressing and unsafe LOL)

Great video! People take it so personal on videos like this. Please y’all, it’s not a personal attack against you, there are critiques and positives to every city (especially to those who are born and raised you may not see it from an outside perspective)

Also a peaceful area very quiet getaway from the new normal (all day traffic) Plenty of restaurants, shopping malls (thrift stores), all in close range. Bars, movie theaters, and diversity. Please check out this area. ✌🏾
Commenting in 2024, I appreciate your video and how detailed you presented the information. I will have to disagree about lifestyle a bit. I am from Florida; Miami ,Florida to be exact and I lived in Dallas for four months (residency). I loved the lifestyle there. I lived off Preston & Alpha Road near the Galleria and there was plenty of outdoorsy places to go for walking, biking, and skating. Some places were only 5-10 minutes away and family oriented. There was so many other locations (to your point) that was 15-20 minutes but to me it was well worth it on days I had free time. Coming from Miami, everything (and everyone) is on top of each other so my time in Dallas was amazing. I think regardless of where you move, you have to be intentional to live your life the way you want. If you had something in one city, it won't be the exact same in the next (and that's okay). Your friends had a point about having to go out of your way. You have to be intentional otherwise you'll continue to have an unpleasant experience (and this is coming from someone who/is struggled with chronic depression and anxiety). Anyways, I figured I make a comment for any new comers, I understand that everyone is entailed to their own opinion/experience. I am planning to make my return to Dallas long term.
As a Dallas native I thought your video was full of great information especially for someone still relatively new to the city. Thanks, and keep up the great videos.
I move to Dallas from California two and half years ago and I love it!! I would say you have to get out alittle more and keep exploring there's so much to do out here in dallas and TX I'll say couple things I consider before moving out here 1> Austin has a lot homeless people and not as many black people as Houston or Dallas 2> The only thing about Houston that worries me is when hurricanes season rolls around and can hit the city and flood it🤔 3> Dallas is growing very fast and there's a lot cool nee spots popping up town town every day!! But the overall vibe is very cool and nice out here!! Looking to buy home by end next year when hopefully interest rates go down and housing market cools down alittle.
I’m from ny I moved to LA/sf valley. 3 years ago beem In Dallas 9 months. The jobs here pay the same as in Cali. But rent is half the price. I have a lady but as a single black man you will have fun. More space but food isn’t to great here. And it’s a good place to invest in real estate without having to spend a fortune to get started
U have a lady, but as a single black man! Dude u sound crazy and you better hope she doesn't read this comment! Double mindedness is not attractive and you're a cheater ....uugghhkk!
Thank You for this video. I think its great due to the fact that you arent a real estate agent trying to sell the city. Your honest takes are awesome! One thing important to me are demographics which you went in depth on. Weather is another... cost, so are spots to hang out and in general what it would be like there everyday and things that affect everyday life. As im looking at Texas it has to be between dallas and houston maybe some suburb area in between where you can get the best of both worlds that would appease moving from a big city like LA.. not that it has to be here. Thanks again!
Houston big, more crowded, very humid. North more cooler . You will not see beautiful nature here, and ocean is dirty . But it’s growing really fast and good opportunity to grow and get good job or success business. And of course houses cheaper than LA, if you need realtor . I am happy to help
Same here. I am from Connecticut, and moved (AZ, NC, GA) and recently moved to MD for a job from Houston and I am on the first thing smoking to get back to Texas.
@@livinginthehudsonvalley845 you must not have taste buds. Being Mexican and stationed on the east coast was torture. 1) east coast people are racist. 2) no good Mexican food. 3) nothing to do, highway is 2 lane roads.
Lived in Dallas my whole life born and raised. In bishop arts be cared ghe further you go down certain streets the areas arent as nice. Just a saftey precaution. Its still in oak cliff. Always be vigilant. Bishop arts has its fancy places and wild bars but overall very nice.
It's kinda like you have to be accepted in the culture. Most people come here & notice it's a beautiful place but the people are segregated.. so you enjoy the city but not so much the people. Once you're accepted it'll get waaay better. We have places all over full of majority black people living rich but not uppity attitude. People just keep quiet about the places so they won't get crowded with outside opinions & trends. You'll see.
You should get out and about a little more. It seems that you have mostly been in the center of the city. Everywhere has sidewalks, access to public transportation, dining. shopping. There are hills with nature trails, greenery, lakes, etc all over. They aren’t in Downtown, but they are all driveable.
Anais, very nice video, but it will take you a long time to understand DFW. Downtown Dallas has underground tunnels with shopping malls / centers and restaurants to protect people against the heat at lunch time. Ask someone to show you the underground areas. Dallas is a business place with tons of headquarters, great suburbs where people can work. Philadelphia is more of an old, depressing place with a lot of drunks. The facts are that when the manufacturing jobs fled Philadelphia decades ago, they left behind an underclass of unemployed people. As a result, morale suffered, and many of these people turned to drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms LOL.
Any city on the east coast will ALWAYS have more walkable cities. Those cities are extremely old and were built like that. Also its extremely hot here. You're not walking in the heat during the summer up and down the street unless you're ready to pass out
Thank you .. coming from Philadelphia born and raised the downtown in Dallas really shocked me … I moved to Dallas without visiting first and I moved 5 min from the downtown and I was pissed to say the least 😑
How Center City Philly is set up was perfect for me!! Feel like I kind of have to go out of my way in Dallas to get just a few things done. But it definitely has its pros as well. Hope you're enjoying it besides that!
Philadelphia is basically it and that's why Downtown has much more including a high crime rate! Dallas is surrounded by many large cities is spreader out twice as large as Philadelphia and there's so much to do in each city. I'm from Houston and Love Dallas
North Dallas is really nice if you’re looking for a town with shopping & living. Very diverse white, middle class blacks, & ofc Hispanics. I’ve lived here for 7 years coming from Denver Co. Lots of opportunities. I like Arlington too. Uptown, deep elum etc are more for the youngins that want to party. I can’t stand that the don’t have as much nature which sucks.
@@Bigpeanut5081 I like it out here… the weather is better as in not as cold, there are a lot of things to do for fun, and lots of opportunities. I overall think Denver is a better place to retire or raise a family.
I can walk to 26 restaurants and bars, 6 hotels, music factory, museum, nail shop, lash studio, tailor shop, spa, trail, lake and multiple other places and things; plus grocery and shopping is only 10-13 mins driving taking only one street. I absolutely love it, only been here for 2 months and it has been good.
Your actually the first person that I’ve heard say that Dallas is affordable, everyone that I’ve encountered only talks about how it’s way to expensive.
Check out some of the areas mentioned . Addison, Old Downtown McKinney, Also Downtown Grapevine, Legacy West & East which is in Plano. And of course Frisco which has the Star. Downtown Dallas is getting ready for several Multi-Billion Dollar Developments including the Trinity River Project. I’ve lived in all the major cities Austin & Houston & for me Dallas is better than both. Anyway enjoy your content. THE MIND IS A BEAUTIFUL THING😁
Video was very cool,I agree with everything, minus the public transportation,as someone who grew up in NY/NJ Philly transit, and have lived all over the country,Dallas has 1 of the most vast and affordable transit systems I've seen outside of my area and Chicago, they have park n rides all over the city, also ,u can buy a morning, midday, afternoon,or day pass, and ride anywhere in Dallas non stop, plus connected places with transit(Richardson,Irving,Garland )or all the way to fort Worth (TRE line) with said pass. Dallas is a hidden gem,and if pub trans is important to you, here is where you can manage.
Thank you so much! I was worried if the public trans was good in Dallas moving there April 2024. I don't like to drive all the time. I'm happy I know it's not surpar.
I'm from NY and after work would run all my errands. I saved so much time and can't imagine not having that. I've also lived in other states that were flat, with no side walks and concretey. I didn't care for them very much. Thanks for such a helpful video.
I’m looking for a place to move for my masters program and I’ve been wanting to be closer to some of my friends in the dmv, Texas, etc. I’ve also been considering Dallas too. I’m pretty introverted but also like the option of a fun city scene. So this was really nice to hear
I moved here from San Diego, and I thought that California was spread out, but omigosh, if I want to go the grocery store, it feels like such an event. There are some really charming neighborhoods here-especially if you go out to the suburbs a bit, like Flower Mound or Southlake. But still, even with the big lakes, at first it seems like no big deal to access-I’ve gone paddle boarding a few times at Lake Lewisville, BUT after seeing a lady change her toddlers diaper IN THE LAKE, I was just like… And the toll roads kind of negate the lower gas prices. I’ve been trying to find my spots and watching Dallas influencers to see where they go, but I think it’s like Hollywood-how they show you all the cute spots and make it seem like they’re located on one strip with no graffiti, etc. Before moving here, people would talk about the heat and traffic, and I was like, pffft, it gets into the three digits inland here: And then I discovered the difference is that in CA, it cools down at night. Here it’s still 103 at midnight! I feel like I can’t ever open my windows due to the heat, the mud daubers, and the random thunder storms. It makes you feel claustrophobic. I was drawn to how nice the apartments seemed, but when I got to mine-which was fairly new; it hadn’t been cleaned. The fridge was full of bugs. There are holes in the sheetrock above my kitchen cabinets. And I met my first cockroach the other day. I live across from this adorable river with restaurants and geese, but again, can’t use it. Red ants and dog poop everywhere. Restaurants keep closing. And it’s either too hot or cold to go for a walk. My asthmatic cat is miserable. And I don’t want to offend any Texans, because I love how proud they are of their home-but in short, for me, Dallas just isn’t Rachel. If you get the reference. Other people love it though-so what I’d do is like you alluded to and write out what you value most, and if Dallas doesn’t have the ocean 😅 or palm trees and hills you love, don’t do it. It’s an expensive pivot I made. Again, not trying to offend anyone. I moved here to get away from the politicians in my state who were making poor decisions, if I’m being honest, and for what I thought would equate to a nicer home for the money. But there are million+ dollar homes popping up everywhere. It’s how the economy works. But yeah, no state income tax is nice. The architecture is beautiful. Most of the people are lovely. ❤
It’s so interesting how you live only a few miles away from me & we have a completely different experience lol I live across the street from the AAC & I walk everywhere including work. You should definitely look into relocating to Victory Park or Uptown. You’ll be a lot less sedentary.
If you come from a major city NY, London,Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto. Dallas is no where close. It's decent but it's not a true urban vibe. It's more LA or Phoenix.
Great recap.... Dallas has been "uppity" since forever... it's not just starting to get uppity - it's the vibe since the last century or longer. Grew up in north Texas (denton) lived there 1967-2008 - uppity is just the way it is. That's why Austin and Houston are so much better. But, nothing beats the Hudson Valley :-)
Does Dallas have anywhere that you live where you're overlooking a body of water? House, condo, or apartments? Chicago overlooks lake Michigan and downtown is beautiful. Is there anything like that?
13:18 absolutely this 💯 percent. DFW is built up upon every inch and they continue to pour concrete over everything at a rapid pace. Are there trees here ? Yes. There aren’t that many open forested areas. Here and there you will find parks , but they aren’t very big and not very pretty. You don’t get large swaths of uninterrupted nature. That makes me sad. All of the shopping and restaurants available doesn’t make up for the lack of open natural areas.
Austin does feel kind of “uppity” tbh. Also Austin natural lakes is not really accessible, it’s mostly private property. I haven’t found too many parks that I like tbh. And in the summer you can’t do any of it bc its so hot. I tried in the summer and I got nauseous. But I do come from another state that has beautiful nature, amazing parks, and lots of hiking and mountains that are all accessible to the public. Im sure if someone came from a place like Ohio they might like it. But yes the sedentary thing is real, I think its bc there is not very good public transportation. I struggle with that in Austin too. I probably wouldn’t like living in Dallas but im curious about visiting. Im trying to see what city to live in Next.
So for a single mom you would recognize the Greenville place you mentioned? I hope I’m saying it correctly. I just want to move somewhere safe with my daughter and possibly find my husband 🤣
I have no issue walking to things and I live in the middle of downtown. The public trans is good here you can get anywhere you need to go using Public trans. I take the train all the way to my office in Richardson.
Thank you for this video. Very thorough, shit now I got a lot to think about. Especially, when it come stop having the option of to walk or drive and also getting outdoors and seeing greenery😩
I really appreciate your deep thought about Dallas, but I have a question: I am doing finance independently as a buisness ; I can help people save as little as 200 bucks a month, do you think Dallas could be a place for me?
My wife and I are planning on moving from NY so we are used to bad weather high taxes crime high gas prices rude people lol my job is in north Richland hills area any advice on areas looking at Arlington another question we are interracial couple and I want my wife to feel safe
You'll be in the Fort Worth area, which I heard is an awesome place, lots to do. It has more of a "southern/country" feel to it - it's home to the forth worth stockyards. Arlington is nice, green, and quaint, much more quiet than NY (if you're coming from the city). I have had no issues since I've been here regarding my safety as a black woman. People of all backgrounds have been very kind and welcoming. I see lots of interracial black/white/hispanic couples. Good luck!
what will your advise if i move to dallas from Europa to live and work for 1 or 2 years which neighbors of area will be better and nearby the city center for work as well?
I'm from Philly, and I'm deciding between Dallas and Tampa. The only thing putting Tampa ahead of Dallas is the beach for me. Dallas seems more affordable than Tampa, so I'm stuck lol.
This is the most honest vid I’ve seen about Dallas. The City is beautiful, the food 👍🏾, the housing space impeccable. If your a earthy natural, hippie, down to earth person. You might feel out of place. I miss Nj Issa good mix
I am from California. I hate California politics and taxes. However, I can drive for 1-4 hours to get to the beach, the mountains, lakes, or the desert. I love hiking, and California is one of the best places for hiking in the United States. I would love to live in Texas for the politics and the taxes. But my dilemma is to do so; I have to give up all of California's great outdoor activities.
im from the boston area, and im considering moving to dallas for an internship opportunity, so your saying your really can't walk anywhere in dallas? like they don't have sidewalks, districts, squares, parks around the city? no greenery? corner stores?
Hi! I want to clarify by saying that there are definitely walkable neighborhoods in Dallas. There are all of those things you mentioned above, just not in proximity to each other unless you live in Uptown, Greenville, or more upscale areas. What I mean is that walking is not convenient as Dallas spreads out wide, so unlike Boston or NYC/Philly where you can most likely get errands done in one day all over the city on foot or via subway, here you will 100% need a car. Good luck!
@@anaisdottavio BIG OIL is based in Texas. The transportation in the major cities is going to be more car oriented because there is more space to build things.
welcome! It was (and still is) an adjustment for me coming from Philly but depending on what you're looking for and enjoy, you may love it! Definitely no center city but..lol
Thanks will be there around the last week in October. What places would you recommend far as r&b music. Hip hop reggae type spots. Not finding to many online. And thank you so much for responding
Actually, Dallas has the largest light rail system in the country. If you live and work along one of these train lines, you could POSSIBLY do without a car.
Your 💯. Being able to bike and walk to places is healthy and fun! Dallas is not it. The home values are good because there is no where to go so people stay at home with ac blasting because of the heat. And paying a high power bill to keep the house warm in the winter.

As a city girl from Chicago I really appreciate this video! I lived in Phoenix and I totally understand what u mean by downtown being a ghost town. I would say the same about Atlanta. Only really city people get it!
Absolutely.

I'm from Chicago and let's just say Dallas is not that LMAO but hey if that's your thing
Gurrrllll…. I’m from Chicago as well… and Yeaa…this video brought a lot of insight about Dallas.
Thank you so much for your feedback and for being here! I hope I helped answer some of your questions.
You do know that Dallas is in Texas right?
@@BrookeLynn-sr6vy that’s obvious

2023 and I’m moving to Dallas. I work in tech and it’s a pull. I been in Dallas and Garland and when I was there for just a few days I felt like I would thrive and prosper there and raise my family. So I’m going to see what’s up.
Texas was a part of Mexico and that wasn’t too long ago in terms of history, so it makes sense that they’re culture would have a strong presence there.
Hello beautiful creature❤❤❤❤ I will love to be your friend
This is true but Dallas was a traditional black and white city from its foundations. It had slaves. This Mexican presence just came in the last 30 years with Mexicans Running across the border in record numbers. And also coming here , having five and six babies apiece. Dallas roots are purely southern
@@labaroncharles1958incorrect check the history
It wasn’t a black traditional city until they started moving here it was actually Mexicans and whites do your history

Dreams do come true!
Hi!! I hope this was helpful and informative! :)
Currently renting a 1 bedroom in the "far north" Dallas area Carrollton/Addison. Off of Dallas North tollway. 1095 a month for the smallest unit. 4 those single with no children it's a dope deal.
The way you speak made me feel like I was talking to a friend which is what I kinda need at the moment. I am definitely subscribing 😊

Good luck Scott! Thanks for the insight

You'll see.
Cedar hill and desoto

Where near downtown I got accepted for a place 15 mins away from downtown
Philly is waaaaaay more dangerous. And the down town area is pretty slow quite honestly. Dallas is safer. No comparison. And probably more to do.

Agreed. I think the major drawback of Dallas is the lack of outdoor activities. Some lakes a few miles out of the area are nice to kayak/swim etc.
I'm actually thinking about moving from Denver to Dallas. How are you liking it so far?!

Check out some of the areas mentioned .
Addison, Old Downtown McKinney, Also Downtown Grapevine, Legacy West & East which is in Plano. And of course Frisco which has the Star. Going from Philly to Dallas too! This was really helpful
Good video, I agree with some of your points, and I've been here since 2003. I'm in the Farmer's Market, great spot for Saturday daytime activities.
I'm from NY and after work would run all my errands. I saved so much time and can't imagine not having that. I've also lived in other states that were flat, with no side walks and concretey. I didn't care for them very much. Thanks for such a helpful video.
Thanks for the breakdown. I’m weighing my options between Dallas and Houston.
I’m looking for a place to move for my masters program and I’ve been wanting to be closer to some of my friends in the dmv, Texas, etc. I’ve also been considering Dallas too. I’m pretty introverted but also like the option of a fun city scene. So this was really nice to hear
DMV no way, don't go. The food is disgusting, traffic is bad, the people are weird and clickish, dating scene is terrible, but jobs are plentiful
As a Dallas native the heat SUCKS. The lakes are gross and insect spray is a must. Love it here!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m planning to move out there in June. ❤

10:35 MDT. Healthcare is big in DFW metroplex. Gay area in Dallas proper is very nice-expensive. Traffic is terrible!!! Loved living there for 25 yrs.

With all due respect your video is not bad but there is alot you have to learn about the city.
This is a really dope video 🔥
Actually, Dallas has the largest light rail system in the country. If you live and work along one of these train lines, you could POSSIBLY do without a car.
Thanks for this…That’s super helpful because I’m moving out to Dallas without a car…I lived in NJ/NY for 10years.
Where would be the best place to live that is walkable to restaurants, shopping, gym and everything. But also can be quite sometimes
Super helpful thank you so much
Your 💯. Being able to bike and walk to places is healthy and fun! Dallas is not it. The home values are good because there is no where to go so people stay at home with ac blasting because of the heat. And paying a high power bill to keep the house warm in the winter.
Which is better Houston or Dallas I'm thinking about moving
