- I don't really know why, but I felt like buying the Amazon Basics #4 smoothing plane and see how bad it could be. The answer is not really all that bad, especially not for $30. Anyways, in this video, I'm testing it (it was bad) and then showing what I did to make it good. Here's the plane in question: www.amazon.com....
Very nice. This just convinced me to not cheap out on a handplane
Sharpening tuning and fettling a cheap tool untill it works almost perfectly gives one a sense of achievement and education.
I have a fleet of planes, some old some new ( Faithfull brand) . Some old wooden ones and a couple of home made ones. They all need a bit of fettling occasionally, but they all work fine.
Spending big on a Neilson or similar maybe good for a professional but most woodworkers are hobbyests
Who like exercising a variety of skills .
Pretty nice work, man! It definitely woke up after tuning! 😃
But yeah, you get what you pay for...
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
These videos are helpful and you talk more about hand tools than other woodworking on youtube. I know know getting a good quality hand plane ain’t negotiable.
@@thephilosopher5799 thanks, I appreciate that!
thank you for this video. I have one of these units. Didn't need precision. 80 year old house. Had the back door (which was ok) and the frame (worked on with damage) by a very good workman. However, it was clear that the door would need planing in the future.
That’s why I always save my money and buy Lie-Nielsen hand planes. Great video!
Nice work as always 💖💖
For sure something to turn into a scrub plane... The blade steel is nonetheless a bit too soft and frequent sharpening will be needed 😉
Compare spear and jackson csp4 vs amazon basics no4
You just wanted to release a new video, stop lying 😂
I bought Draper no.5 cost 45€ and I already spend 5 hours to make it work 😂😂😂 completely shit
Looks like the only thing it’s good for is changing it into a scrub plane
