What is the most average weapon in Terraria, stat-wise? - Ігри
Trimerang is the most average weapon by mode
aren't you the cool but underwhelming guy?
Holy shit its the cool but underwhelming guy
you could say the trimarang is… cool but underwhelming 😊
yooo it's the cool but underwhelming guy this is a moment of history
Guys dont be mean to badname hes not cool or underwhelming
Fun fact: according to the spreadsheet, the least average weapon in Terraria is the Sniper Rifle, both in terms of the mean and the median.
yeah that thing does insane damage and is so dang slow it's hilarious
And I love it for that. The sniper rifle is probably my favorite weapon in the game.
And mode, which i just calculated
@@damnthisisabadnamearkhalis
@@damnthisisabadnameI may be wrong, but isn't mode the most repeated number in the sequence? And most weapons in Terraria have damage under 100 (not 100% sure, but too lazy to check), so the sniper wouldn't be a likely mode candidate? Bcz it has very unique stats, high damage and very low fire rate.
This gives me an ungodly idea. Since you now have the data, you could then find the "average" weapon of each stage of terraria (pre-eye, post-skeletron, etc.) And then do a run limited to only those weapons.
Genius
This would make a cool video
The ultimate mediocrity run
Wand of sparking ahh idea
We can use Terrasteel’s videos for two purposes.
1. Random Terraria information.
2. Online documentation ethics.
i get that it was done for the sake of not complicating things too much, but 1 point of deviation in knockback should weigh quite a lot more than 1 point of deviation in damage, calculating the deviation in terms of percentage points and then averaging the results i think would have a better result, so the palladium repeater would have a 2.63% deviation in damage from the median, a 56.25% in kb, and a 20% in sell price, giving it a 13.15% average deviation (adding all the percentages and dividing by 6), while the dark lance would end up with only 10%
Same thought here
Yeah he should have normalized the data by subtracting the mean and dividing by the standard deviation in each category, then finding the weapon with the lowest magnitude distance from the origin.
Your comment got liked 69 times.
The best part of this is how the spreadsheet has the sniper rifle, the last weapon, listed in position 420.
I had to keep flare gun to make it happen
I keep seeing you on every terraria video ever@@damnthisisabadname
@@Earth6094 I agree
@@damnthisisabadname Well being in all of Terra's comment section makes sense because of the amount of stuff you do together.
im really only involved in a couple of videos, I just like this community and the videos@@Goat_gamering
There's just so many weapons that don't see use even in mediumcore playthroughs that I couldn't have guessed it without doing the math myself, but the results somehow don't surprise me either. Now that's some truly average stuff.
I also like medium core.
Until my game crashes after I die.
Yeah I personally couldn't guess them at All but also I ain't surprised by the results repeaters are pretty mid in every use case and so are yoyos (except the really late game yoyos like the eye of Cthulhu or the terrarian)
My guess was either the titanium sword or the Adamantite sword, so I wasn't that far off
My guess was also the titanium sword!
SAME
Same here
I think it could be interesting to approximate weapons with a multivariable Gaussian - this would give weapon properties "automatic weights" based on their variation as well as account for correlation (like between damage, rarity, sell price)
Thanks for the spreadsheet, if I got the time I might borrow it and play around with it in Python
I thought it would have been a hardmode ore sword
I'd also say the Palladium Repeater is "more average" than the Amorok because it doesn't inflict a status effect or do anything else extra, it just hits things to do damage and that's it.
I would be interested in a follow up video where you split the info and find the most average pre-hardmode and hardmode weapons isolated from each other.
Or find the most average weapon in each stage so
Pre-boss
Pre-skekteron
Pre-WoF
Early hard mode
After mechs
After plantera
After duke fishRon
After golem
After pillars
And lastly after moonlord
Would be really interesting to see what would be the most average weapon in those stages
I guessed cobalt repeater. Considering the palladium repeater was the result i'd say that is a pretty great guess
Absolutely unusable now
I guessed cobalt repeater, I am DISTRAUGHT
Short and straight to the point. Thanks!
Now calculate the time it would take you to craft a slime crown only using slime drops (assuming you already have a ruby and the required crafting stations)
Approximately 4 hours 27 minutes.
Assuming: A fresh world, forest biome, no spawn rate boosts, you are capable of killing slimes as fast as they can spawn, and that the listed drop quantities on the wiki are uniformly distributed (ie. 3 gold ore is just as likely as 7 gold ore is just as likely as 13 gold ore)
1/20 slimes has a bonus item
1/32 bonus items are some quantity of gold ore
8 is the average quantity of gold ore dropped as a bonus drop (see above assumption about uniform distribution)
Default spawn rate is 1/600
Tick rate is 60/s
4 gold ore per bar
5 gold bars per crown
Gel cost is negligible at this scale
Thus:
1/20 * 1/32 * 8 = 0.0125 gold ore per slime = 80 slimes per gold ore
4 * 5 = 20 gold ore per crown
80 * 20 = 1600 slimes per crown
1/600 * 60 = 1/10 slime spawns per second = 10 seconds per slime spawn
1600 * 10 = 16000 seconds = ~4 hours 27 minutes
Great video! Genuinely, genuinely appreciate that you've also considered statistical outliers which easily throw off mean averages. Excellent work.
If you ever consider doing a part 2 you can talk about the average weapon per stage of the game and per stat
I would have calculated deviation using standard deviations rather than raw points. Specifically absolute deviation since it's a more accurate measure of spread. Using that you could recalculate the stats and rank them based on the total of deviations of all the stats, that way larger stat numbers don't influence the result more than others like damage having way more an influence than .2 off of the crit chance mean.
The video we never wanted...
BUT WE NEEDED
Had a good hunch one of the hardmodes yoyos would be it, glad to see I wasn't too far off!
I think you should use % off when measuring distance cuz using values values something like cc less than damage
The paladium repeater!
It just exists!
I would be curious to see this but for different stages of the game. Like "what is the most average weapon out of the weapons unlocked after 3 mecs and before plantera"
Shouldn’t be too hard for you to do yourself if you can get hands on the raw data
@@cara-seyun True, true
We need to go even further! Segment the data into each stage of progression, and you can get the most average weapon at each stage of the game
It would probably take more time to do but it wold be cool if you split off the weapons into 4 categories of pre hardmode. pre mech bosses, pre moonlord and post moonlord
Or alternatively into weapon types
My guess was the Cursed Flames tome. I feel like I got the gist of it being an early hardmode weapon that you could in theory bring to the mechs but in truth never would pretty well.
Damn thats crazy ive never even heard of the palladium repeater before
funny, i thought it was gonna be something like the palladium pike or cobalt sword, not surprised to see i was not far off lol
My guess was one of the early hardmode repeaters
I was so close, I guessed the hallowed repeater.
I had a feeling it was an early hardmode weapon but I wasn't expecting a yo-yo and a repeater!
I wish they would add an update that adds upgrades to niche/unique weapons that aren't in the end game and play differently to other weapons of the same class
The fact that the dark lance got third just goes to show how good of a weapon it actually is
I was actually anticipating it to be an upgraded Phase blade. Fits the "nondescript early hard mode" vibe I was getting with the question.
Could you perhaps look at specific weapon categories? Average ranged or melee etc
Thats really shows how similar pre hard mode and hardmode are in terms of content
How was use time done for summon weapons btw? also would have liked to see what was the median weapon in damage and different stats(like which weapons stats were used)
My guess was the adamantite repeater, so I was pretty close imo.
i did not expect to guess correctly, but im not suprised by the result
Video suggestion:hom much heal can spectre armor actually capable to.
Cause when i hit the crawltipide with the hood on i heal at 200 hp,i think the heal is scale base on damage deal to enemy.
You just explained mean, median and mode to me in seconds while school would take hours
I was expecting a hardmode ore weapon to be the most average, since it ends up being at the exact halfway point (not prehardmode, but not the crazy hardmode weapons, and there were a lot of them for all variations to clog up the numbers)
When paying attention in math class helps me clutch up while watching youtube
I was expecting them to be more late game, given how many weapons appear at the end
I knew the Dark Lance must have been in this video
Can you look into easiest ways to contain biome spread, I dig 4x wide tunnels but apparently evil spreads through vines and stuff
Line the walls with wood, or dig bigger
@@R8Spike yeah I know, what I want to know is the easiest way to do that, if I have to dig bigger how much exactly or any other method that's easier
similar to terrsteels videos on killing daytime EoL in 35 seconds or killing DG in 3 minutes
Hellevators. Just make 4 block-wide holes going from the surface to the Underworld. I don't think that the Corruption and Crimson can spread across walls - they just change the walls closest to blocks for aesthetic reasons. They also can't spread through platforms.
Also, you don't have to literally dig the tunnels. Just use bombs and you'll have plenty of space to prevent spread.
After taking a moment to consider what the most average weapon was from start of the game to end game. I reasonably concluded it would probably be in early hardmode. My final conclusion was probably one of the mythril melee weapons. Either the sword or the spear. So it was pretty cool to see my years of terraria knowledge paid off here.
You forgot about geometric mean as a method of taking averages (although tbf geometric mean falls apart if you have any zero values in your data set)
I like how Night's edge (which one i'd guessed) is close to math-average and also is an actual playthrough average weapon
Now I think my majoring in Statistics become a bit more useful
This video is kind of a huge emdorsement of the dark lance considering how early you can get it
it would be interesting to know the most average weapon for each class
Dark lance was the only real surprise on this list
Best vid! ~terraman after not even watching video.
This video is in this world.
My guess was the Beam Sword. I guess any early-hardmode weapon would be considered "close" to an average
same guess here, i'd say we were close.
I knew it would be a hardmode ore repeater lo
Im so sad, guessed the adamantite repeater, i cry
Mythril sword is still the best terradle starter btw
nuh uh
Still loyal to beam sword 🔥🔥🔥
Erm no it's the dart pistol...

Impressive math
It's really just making a formula for taking the deviation from mean/meadian for all stats for all weapons weapons and adding them up and finding the lowest total deviation
I honestly Expected it to be normal Night's Edge or so
It just works
But what is literally the median weapons? Like if you sorted by damage (since it’s usually a good indicator of power, only being thrown off by extremely fast firing weapons like the minishark and the gatligater and utility/novelty weapons like the vampire knives and slap hand) and didn’t do any more sorting, which weapon would be the absolute middle in the table?
You can check the table yourself, but it's between the piranha gun and the mythril repeater
Yes, more people to know about terradle's existance
I fucking took a wild guess thinking it was going to be the Mythril Halberd so imagine my surprise when you said mythril halberd was one of them. I honestly thought I'd be wrong because it felt farther in progression, but that's because pre Hardmode is so much longer than post hardmode, while you're setting the world up and struggling to find hermes boots and digging still takes eons.
What ammo types were used in the calculations?
Could you divide them by bosses
As in
Pre-boss
Pre-evil boss
Pee-skeletron
Pee-WOF
Pee-mech bosses
Pee-plantera
Pee-golem
Pee-moon lord
Post-moon lord
I was betting myself for some kind of Orichalcum Sword, so not far off o/
I'd probably add DPS and some weighting to the most important stats like DPS, damage and use time. Knockback and price isn't that important imo and they shouldn't matter as much
Did you use normal distribution and Z-score to measure the point totals?
I had guessed cutlass for the mean
mom look, i'm in a terrasteel video
anyways, i didn't expect it to be a repeater at all, nor did i expect amarok to be that close
but i was pretty close in my guesses to its stats don't you think?
I checked out Terradle today and got it right in two guesses, because somehow it was the most obvious one possible
Why did yt say you uploaded this after 10 hours of it being out
I was close I guessed the Night's Edge
Maybe the answer wouldn't change, but would there be any difference in the result if sell price was not factored in?
I wonder what sicko is going to try to beat the game using only these.
wonder what it'd be by dps
just before watching it’s probably a hardmode ore weapon
My guess was mythril sword, pretty close I think
i guessed amarok, maybe those 3000 hours where worth it after all.
Oh man I was sure it was going to be the Zenith
Paladium repeater really does scream "most average terraria weapon"
An ore bow with no unique attributes that is easily outclassed by higher tier ore bows
What does 6.5pts of Deviation mean? The data seems not to be normalized (the mean was not subtracted from the data and then divided by the standard deviation X-> (X-mu)/sigma), so it is hard to make sense of what it means to be 6.5pts deviation.
Based on the results, you seem to have just added the distances away for each category to get 6.5, but this method would not guarantee the correct result. One needs to first normalize the data to do this, otherwise it makes no sense to add the stats directly together since a 1 point change in something like Rarity which only has a small range of outputs is weighted the same as a 1 point change in DMG which has a huge range of outputs.
i expected titanium repeater...wow i overestimated the mean and median
what's the most average weapon for each class?
I thought it be the Fiery Greatsword tbh
i expected the titanium sword, but i was kinda close
Early HM is technically the mid-game right? So the most average weapon is at the "mid"-game. Truly one of the weapons of all time.
The best weapon however, for a terrarian, is their own determination to throw themselves at everything until that thing dies.
That's what I've learned from personal playthroughs, at least.
I read this as the best weapon is the terrarian and I was gonna say so true
I expected the palladium repeater 🎉
I knew a repeater would be one of the two.
tempted to ask what the statistical average weapon is in terms of DPS...
cool video
Palladium is a pretty late weapon, i expected something a bit weaker
Couldn't you have used the mode of the categorical data, such as weapon type, and factored that in?
You couldn't have posted this a month ago before I spent weeks writing JS code to manually scrape and fetch data from the wikis?
