Shutters no longer work and operate the way they were originally designed. Historically, shutters performed an important role in protection and safety as well as air condition and heat management. Today, shutters have become like faux stickers people put on their home for decoration. Brent discusses shutters historical sizing and purpose along with best ways to install shutters today. Using strap hinges and historic pintails, Brent hangs shutters on his home, replacing ill-sized shutters that didn’t work.

Other than "historic authenticity," what's the point of installing shutters if you have no intention to use them as they were designed? Why not just remove the old ones and leave the brick bare?

Because it looks nice. It's the "jewelry" for the home.
