      Hey John it's great to hear from you buddy, how are things up there? We missed 3 big storms this month, 2 hurricanes and a tropical storm. We have been getting a lot of light rain and sometimes heavy but for the most part we are fine. Thank you for taking the time for me and have a great day!

    I love watching your videos! I bought a home a few years ago and have a lot of diy projects in mind as time permits. Inevitably, I turn to UA-cam and do the research beforehand. I’m glad I found your site and always look forward to your videos. Even if it’s not a project I am working on (or the tools to work with), I enjoy learning!
    Enjoy your day!

    Tip with that siding. When u side a house. No matter the hight differences. Go all around the house till all of your siding meets up. Whether its 1 run up or have a deck and have to go up 5 runs before you get to the j channel on deck. Once the siding matches the same around all around the house then start siding one side at a time. I see a lot of people run one side then next then next and they get to the last side and they have alot to make up. Or cut down. Just my way of siding a house.

      You’re absolutely right Tony, I plan on doing a video on vinyl siding and I will show that you always put your starter channel or if you’re doing wood siding your first board all the way around and make sure it’s level. That’s the hardest part everything else falls into place. It’s always good to hear from you buddy have a great night!

    Excellent idea. Needing some more thought about strong winds etc. But looks promising

    • @paulstoolbox

      I see your concern but these shutters are being held at a min. of 2 points for smaller shutters and 3 on larger ones. The wind would hve to come from underneath pushing the shutters straight up for them to be removed. I suggest a small dab pf silicone on 2 points to keep them from any movement, I recently had 50 mph gusts and I only had them sitting in place without silicone and they didn't budge. I am also looking into an extra safety measure for hurricane force winds. I will have information available as soon as I figure it out. I also have some really cool adaptations that I will share soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch and especially commenting. Have a great day Ofri!

      Put a wooden cam on the outside edge that you can turn to clamp/increase pressure against the cleat.

    Great info! Well explained mostly!
    However-To attach my DIY wood shutters to my brick home.. can I use masonry screws? What would you recommend to lock the french cleats to the brick? The peel and stick from cleats wouldn't be enough to hold them securely, allowing to slide on or off for maintenance? While researching how to go about this project for my home, I've been told brick could split? Yet I have seen several videos of people drilling directly into their brick homes when attaching said shutters. Tips?!

    Hi Paul. Great video's, I have been binge watching. Question, What color is your house and trim? I love it!

    • @tinaknutsen
      @tinaknutsen Рік тому

      Susan Shultz;
      Google Hurricane Grey by Sherwin Williams exterior paint. It is extremely similar to the color of Paul’s house.
      The shutters looks stained and similar to Varathane’s Antique White or Vintage Aqua stain.
      I am a retired painter and have a eye for color and detail.

    What about if the brick up top sticks out away from the wall? Right under the soffit, the brick is flush but then it slowly comes out away from the wall as you go toward the bottom of the brick? This makes our anchors too short to go into the eall

      I have the same scenario as well . Paul , do you have any insight if your system will work with this scenario. The brick house in your video looks like it might be the same but hard to tell.

    • @usncpo6749
      @usncpo6749 2 роки тому

      You have to put the adhesive on. The z bars you can get at orange aluminum. Price cannot be beat. They come in 6 foot lengths so you have to cut to desired length. The adhesive you want to use is VHB 3m 2 way tape. It's on Amazon. Just type in 3m VHB tape.

    Why are you damaging your wall and creating additional routes for water to penetrate with do nothing trim? If the “shutters” actually SHUT to protect the windows from being damaged during a storm as they were originally conceived it would be a different story.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  3 роки тому

      Some shutters are made for storms and some are for looks. This does not damage anything. I am replacing non functional shutters that cannot be removed with an easy to install kit that allows you to take them off in seconds thus making it easy to clean or paint, not to mention it makes the original install much easier and faster.The double stick tape is waterproof and will not allow water to enter where the screws are applied so there are LESS chances for rot than with the original ones. Thanks!

    These are just decorative if I understand correctly? Have this always been the case in American history?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, we have both functional and non functional shutters. Functional shutters are more expensive and require more work to install. Many homes in the USA have shutters that are only meant to accent the windows. Thanks!
