If you haven't read the LOTR books before, it's a very different experience to the movies in that it's very fairytale, and epic-like. Some parts with slow pacing and can be challenging to get through for some people. Absolutely worth it, but I think you'll start to see why many people at the time believed that LOTR was "unfilmable".
I really love this series of baking and talking about books. It’s so cozy and makes me feel like you’re a cool librarian friend that’s invited us all over for tea! 🧡
a Latin American magical realism book I think everyone should read is "House of Spirits", by Isabel Allende. It follows the story of the Del Valle family (specially its women), at the same time that it has as a backdrop the implementation of the Chilean military dictatorship
I still find it shocking that there's people who doesn't know or never heard that in the southern hemisphere (where I also am, not in Australia but in Argentina) we are always in the opposite season xD
I know! If I say something like "My birthday is in autumn, in May", they'll say "ummm May is spring". It's like they've forgotten that there are nearly 200 countries in the world, and two hemispheres.
Honestly I live in Canada and even though the assumptions go in my "favour" it baffles me how Northern-hemisphere skewed most media/general understanding is.
I've been subscribed since about four years now. I just love your content. You inspire me. Only couple days ago I literally stayed up watching all your new recent videos. Keep being the way you are! Much LOVE Christy ❤✨
When you described 1Q84…I giggled and thought “ oh my dear sweet child, you are in for a ride!” It was my big book of 2020 and WHAT A JOURNEY IT WAS, not what I expected for sure. Wish you all the luck with 1Q84!
I love that shirt. I just picked up Claire Coleman's new non fiction book, Lies Damned Lies. Despite generally enjoying Murakami, I hated 1Q84. Yes to eating baked goods straight out of the oven 🥰
I'm so happy to see that you are finally giving Gabriel García Márquez a try. I also started with One Hundred Years of Solitude and since then I have been obsessed with all of his books. Can't wait to hear what you think of it!!
Originally, when I thought of the southern hemisphere I thought you guys really missed out by not having October and autumn at the same time. But now that I think about it more, you really get to experience the season and the books that come with it twice. So, now I'm jealous.
A friend and I have a theory about twilight, and how it sort of filled that hole HP left us because we liked it and then we hated it as well. I think we were all searching for a new series to dive into and twilight just happened to be that at the time. I’m reading ocean at the end of the lane because of you, and I’m excited to know what you think of the stationery shop, I read that one earlier this year.
I saw the film Like Water For Chocolate around 20 years ago and it became one of my favourites. I know I've read the book too but I can't remember if there was much that the film didn't cover well. I have another Laura Esquivel book on my shelf but I haven't read it yet.
Side note: totally appreciating the aesthetic of the beautiful top you're wearing matching in colour scheme to the cover of The Deathless Girls. I have a few different beautiful teapots I've received as gifts, and the times I sat down and the teapot was matching the book I was reading... it just made me smile. I love your videos! "Books and baking" could simply become "book and bake" - both start with a b and end with a k.
Christy, "One hundred years of solitude" is a wonderful book, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez writes very well. When I reading him I think that he puts the exactaly number of words to make the phrases; not less and not more. If I may a suggestions, in Brazil we have Murilo Rubião who writes magical realism (short stories), and the books "Incidente em Antares" (Érico Veríssimo) and "The Post Memoirs of Bras Cubas" of our best writer, Machado de Assis. That book is very revolutionary. Sorry about the english. Best regards from Brazil! 😊🥰
Can’t wait for you to read One hundred years of Solitude and Laura Esquivel and hear your opinion. the first one is my favorite book ever and as a Mexican, I would like to know your view on the latter. Greetings from Mexico!
Yeah, she is Australian. No matter how pure and adorable and lovely an Australian is, they will always respond with cursing to A Thing That Is Going Wrong. God I love you.
Like water for Chocolate and 100 years of solitude are classics! Here in Chile (and latinoamerica) are books that we have to read when we are in school. I can't wait to hear your opinion on those!
OMG Twilight XD I will totally do a read along with you if you get to it this year, I am intrigued to see what I and you think of it now that we are older.
Thank you for the Terra Nullis recommendation!!! Imma pick it up asap. I just wanted to let you know, Midnight's Children is specifically about the kids born as India became independent from the British Empire, so it's very much tied in with the Partition.
I would recommend SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla. Its the best fantasy book that i read this year. Eating a cake while reading scarlett makes the moment more enjoyable.
If one were to do their hemisphere travels right, it could be autumn all the time (or most of the time). You've yet to wear an outfit I didn't like (on you) or in general, but this one is especially lovely.
I am reading LOTR for the first time right now! It’s amazing so far! And I also would love to re-read twilight too, for the exact same reasons 😅 I wonder what we’ll think of it this time around! 💛
Great list! I`ve been binge-watching your channel for 2 or 3 weeks now and so many great books! Sometimes I feel you`re my literary twin or you are peeking at my library here in Brazil. We have the same taste! =) I also lived in Japan and I`m always looking for books set there!
Thank you Christy for another great video! So many interesting and varied reads :) I love your content, keep it up! Also, a small thought: maybe it would be funny for you to make a vlog while you re-read Twilight and react to it after all these years :)
Christy- if you want some more recs for magical realism, check out Sarah Addison Allen books. I have every single one of her books. Her writing is phenomenol.✨
I totally know what you mean about Donna Tartt!! Watching interviews of her I'm like, _I want her to be my friend._ Also, super random, but apparently she's quite short and I saw these photos of her next to Wes Anderson and the height difference is hilarious and so cute! She's so small. Anyway, The Secret History is one of my favorite books! Hope you get to it and like it!
I recently read the The Lord of the Rings and let me tell you that the first part of the first book is hard to get through. It's interesting but really slow. Ath the end though the story, the details are amazing and you can rediscover that beautiful world!
Ha, this time I have already read some of the books on your list! ^_^ Daughter of Smoke and Bone is wonderful, I love the whole series. And you are very much ahead of me in regards to Neil Gaiman, but I have also read (and loved!) American Gods and Anansi Boys. Enjoy! ;-)
If you do audiobooks, the Lord of the Rings has recently been narrated by Andy Serkis who voiced Gollum in the films. It is amazing, as it tea and dessert #chefkiss
I LOVED like water for chocolate. I have to find it again! I haven´t found many other books that combine cooking/baking with magical realism as well as that book since I read it. Oh I´m so looking forward to your thoughts on it, and 100 years :) What´s your favorite magical realism book so far? I´m the opposite, I´ve read mostly latinamerican literature

I listened to them all on audiobook last winter and enjoyed them so much!

Awwwwh thank you so much, Rahma 😭💛
Haha it just jumped out at me--how the Deathless Girls book cover palette fits ur blouse ❤❤
Lovely video as usual!!
Hahaha it really does! 💛
I've been rereading Twilight as well, I'm truly relishing the nostalgia factor about it. Please take us along as you reread it!
When you described 1Q84…I giggled and thought “ oh my dear sweet child, you are in for a ride!” It was my big book of 2020 and WHAT A JOURNEY IT WAS, not what I expected for sure. Wish you all the luck with 1Q84!

Thank you! I love this shirt~ Hope Lies Damned Lises is good😀 And that's a shame about 1Q84! I'm hoping I enjoy it 💛
Now ,I need a book shelf tour
Please!!
I've had a lot of requests for a new bookshelf tour, so I might have to make one! 💛
@@christy-anne-jones that would be great!!

The Nature of Witches is so, so good!
Like water for chocolate and One Hundred Years of Solitude are wonderful and beautiful books, magic realism at its best, highly recommended.
Books and baking is perfect. Also, adding literally all of these texts to my tbr because your taste is flawless. Also nail polish color pleaassseeee.

Books and Baking - if it ain't broke don't fix it

This series is so relaxing ❤️ baking and book recommendations bring immense ecstasy to my exam-drained mind ❤️
You add a lot of meaning to my days by your absolutely magnificent videos!🌸😊
Thank you so much! 💛
Love your book recommendations! I also have to take a significant break between Murakami books haha and LOTR is also high on my TBR!
Realismo Latinoamericano: Roberto Arlt, Julio Cortazar, Juán Rulfo, Jorge Luis Borges..José de la Cuadra, Isabel Alllende, Mario Vargas Llosa, Horacio Quiroga. Qué ricos esos brownies, beauty!!
I literally love all of your videos and now I'm addicted. LOL 😂
Thank you so much!! 💛
Your videos are pure happiness.

Yeah, she is Australian. No matter how pure and adorable and lovely an Australian is, they will always respond with cursing to A Thing That Is Going Wrong. God I love you.
Like Water for Chocolate is beautiful! You should definitely read it!
I read Like Water for Chocolate a few years ago and really loved it and felt so fondly for the characters. ❤️
One of the best booktubers out there.

Hello! It seems to be fine today, and ☺ good luck by watching out for colds and other diseases!
💛💛
Thankyou Christy for your serene and clean vlogs. I wish you have a great vibe in your life. Lots of love from Kerala...
LOTR and 100 years of solitude are both worth reading for the prose alone, so lyrical and beautiful
The Deathless Girls cover perfectly matches your top, both pretty. Thank you for this line up!
Thank you for the Terra Nullis recommendation!!! Imma pick it up asap.
I just wanted to let you know, Midnight's Children is specifically about the kids born as India became independent from the British Empire, so it's very much tied in with the Partition.

"This is a coming of age story about a wizard who´s name is... Kvothe" *satisfied smile*
I mean, you*should* be satisfied
I am reading twilight right now (for some reason as a teen I have only read new moon), and honestly it’s so good. 😂
I really want to re-read it!! 💛
Good luck with your reading your books 📚 for the rest of the year please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your Australia fan John xx
Thank you Christy for another great video! So many interesting and varied reads :) I love your content, keep it up!
Also, a small thought: maybe it would be funny for you to make a vlog while you re-read Twilight and react to it after all these years :)
This maybe the latest comment in this video but I realized that her outfit and the cover of "The Deathless Girls" matched
I love Like Water for Chocolate! Oh LA magical realism is just a league of its own.
Oh lawd it was so satisfying watching the 'likes' turn from 999 to 1k ;))
You should try the Vampire Academy series. Sooooo much better than Twilight.

coles brownies come with free gluten? im sold
They sell this one in the gluten free section 💛
💛💛
Frodo’s “magical journey of self-discovery” sounds like it could be Paolo Coelho’s The Alchemist. And highly recommend American Gods!
I've heard really good things about 'The Alchemist'! 💛
@@christy-anne-jones same here! A small but essential book! Very insightful and philosophical! 📚 🌅
don't hate me but I HATE like water for chocolate with a passion haha
I only read a spoiler summary and I hated it too :3
💛🌻
I LOVED like water for chocolate. I have to find it again! I haven´t found many other books that combine cooking/baking with magical realism as well as that book since I read it. I love this blouse. 😀
I’d recommend reading The Hobbit before you read LOTR, if you haven’t already
Very very nice Sharing my dear respected friend full support & Big Likes from Ahmed Ali Nizamani...,..
Thank you so much!!
♥️♥️♥️
💛💛
You look a lot like Dakota Johnson. (A compliment btw ☺️)
Like Water for Chocolate is a great book, you will enjoy it. The movie is also very good.
