First lesson I've learned when visiting NYC: do not, under any circumstances, engage with a stranger on the train
Wait why?
Lol huh, you could engage with strangers on the train we’re not all crackheads
I mean i guess thats common sense
You would think he knows this having lived in both London and Paris before. You don't engage with weirdos in any big city anywhere in the world.
Not a thing you do under any circumstances.
I mean sometimes things can be quite pleasant, have you ever seen the Seinfeld episode where Jerry talks to the nudist on the train? They had a very pleasant conversation!
Jack has officially completed the Trifecta of London, Paris and New York. Noice.
P.S. You have a nice apartment so book management should start soon.
Is that his apartment? It looks like a green screen lol.
@@jdude99lolz lol what yea it's def his apartment not a green screen
@@jdude99lolz do you think upper east side??
@@jmsl910 Definitely Brooklyn if he took the train that may go to Harlem
Maybe let’s not assume where he lives exactly, if I was him, I wouldn’t feel safe and it’s kind of scary people guessing where you’re living publicly
You're life is like a sitcom every time and I live for it
Your life*
Your pfp looks v cool
@@bryanstivengomezmontoya9376 noo I never make this mistake and now I can't change it or otherwise his like will go away:/
@@kat9pao thanks! I didn't paint it actually but I still love it:)
this is so bestdressed ashley 🤞🏻
playing taylor swift's welcome to new york when you arrive in nyc for the first time is a right of passage I'm glad you upheld the tradition
fun fact: that song came out the day before I went to NY for the first time back in 2014. it was a life changing experience.
Yes!! I did it for mine too! :)
🎵Welcome to New York. It's been waiting for you🎵
This song is soo underrated and so perfect for this video 😂
I literally want to go to New York just so I can finally fully feel this song!
I did the same we're walking clichés and I'm fine with it
"Sometimes being alone isn't absence, it's opportunity" - Jack Edwards, 2022
writing this down rn
jack, that was the most new york experience you could have ever had on the subway
“It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York.”
The Bell Jar
- Sylvia Plath
🤌🏻🤌🏻
ooooooooofffffffffffffffffff :)
One of the best opening lines!
@@caras4766yesss!!!
Something I appreciate about Jack is how realistic he is about things. He knows he's in a lucky position (in multiple ways) and he doesn't seem to take things for granted -- at least on the surface anyway, I know you can't really tell for sure. But I also like that he actually voices his own opinions about the books he reads and doesn't just go along with what's popular even if he knows people won't take kindly to those opinions sometimes. In my opinion (heh) being true to yourself and knowing your tastes are vastly more important than trying to please everyone, especially on social media.
Good luck in New York!
The way Jack talks about love makes me belive in men again
Every time I remember that Jack is the same age as me I get a little "what am I doing with my life" crisis, so it was really nice listening to him talk about each person living life at their own pace
It will happen in its own time at your own speed. Though be sure to prioritize & fight what you want to do.
“We are all doing today for our first time” ummmmmm crying in the club rn jack okay. The most humanizing beautiful quote and exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you.
As someone who commutes every. Single. Day. For work and school I grimaced the moment Jack said he was on the subway.
i will never get this i love the subway
jack's vlogs: emotionally preparing himself for what the nyc subway will put him through that day
Jack, please check out the audiobook of the memoir Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. This is another celebrity book that’s actually good. While the writing was a more conversational tone and the stories weren’t always chronological, the book gave great insight into the period when Apartheid came to an end. Trevor Noah focused on his mother and how she made him into the person he is today and the memoir does not discuss his career today/his fame. It’s a seriously impactful book that delves into religion, race, identity, and family. Highly recommend
yes!!!
that audiobook is the golden standard by which I judge every other audiobook. It sold me on what audiobooks could be. Trevor Noah is such a natural orator and the deep reflections found throughout the book are so touching that they in turn make you more introspective.
thats one of my favs, so good! id love a review on it from jack as well
This book is so good that I was assigned to read this book for a sociology class
Yes!! It's so good funny and brilliant
Jack i saw the notification and genuinely dropped my phone because of how excited this makes me. I want to move to new york solo in the future, so this might be a good push to do it
Samee! We got this
“we’re all doing today for the first time” “sometimes being alone isn’t absence, it’s opportunity” thank you for these Jack!
I’m 24 and when someone who I went to school is getting married or is pregnant, my friends and I still think of it as “omg that’s crazy, we’re so young” but then realize that’s it’s so normal for that to be happening. I personally really enjoy being alone in my 20s, having my friends, and just navigating life. Obviously tough at times for everyone and I definitely had a mini mid life crisis about the fact that I turned 24 but everyone is on their own journey it’s definitely something we all should remember!
Holy moly how was that a year in Paris?! Gosh, I must have been watching for years now. Must say, I'm really relying on your encouraging uni videos to get me to the end of my degree! So thank you very much!!
Happy to be apart of the largest book club of all time, congrats on one million!
Currently planning on reading a ton in the coming week as I am trapped in doors due to Hurricane Ian heading straight towards where I live.
Same. He absolutely deserves it ❤
Hope you’re able to stay safe!
fiona just did record breaking damage where i am. 4 whole days without power, so I read most of "It" by Stephen King.
same! Ian is coming towards me and I have like 5 Agatha Christie novels lined up to enjoy. It's the little things, y'know
@@Jade-zm2tg stay safe!! it really is the little things in life 😊💕
I love hearing how people organise their bookshelves because I have such a complicated system that when I see people similar to me I'm like ok I'm normal
the way jack lit up when talking about his book was so wholesome
You are very likeable Jack! I dont always watch your videos but when i do i feel like: Oh i would like to be friends with this guy and talk about life
CONGRATULATIONS JACK! So proud of you 😊
can not wait to see you living in your permanent paris house that you bought with all of the money you made off of your new york times best seller money im so so proud of you jack you are one of my biggest inspirations in life in general and have the best taste in books EVER and seeing you live your best life makes me so happy :’))) wishing you good health and happiness always, thank you for everything you do !!!
Oh Jack, I'm sooo sorry for that experience on the train! I hope your time in New York will be glorious:)
So happy to be a part of the biggest book club of all time
It's so cool to see that you are thriving! Have a great time in New York ☺️
So lovely to hear you talk about your writing. I’m from a small town, where people are taught never to entertain the idea that they might be anything special (something I think is pretty common in small towns). But, we must all have faith in our creative endeavours! Sending you the best of luck with your book and for your next chapter in NYC
i found it very endearing when you've said you wanted to write a book that people would underline sentences while they'd read, because i often want to underline things you say in your videos. idk you are just great with words, it's like you always know the best way to say something. hope u have a fantastic time in ny!!
Welcome to NYC Jack and hope you enjoy ur new journey of life and make new memories and have fun and everything 😊
Love hearing you speak so eloquently about not comparing your timeline to anyone else’s. That’s so so so important, and it can be difficult to come to grips with, especially right after graduating when everyone’s lives start to head in different directions. I really struggled with it for a while (particularly during my masters degree), but now I know that everything happens for a reason and I’m exactly where I need to be. Happy to see you absolutely thriving in that vibrant city; have the best time!!! 😊😊
i only stop by your channel every now and then, but it was so nice to sit and listen to you talk about your philosphy and your outlook on life. i really admire your attitude, thanks for growing up with us :)
This video just single-handedly gave me permission to live my best live abroad, thanks Jack!
will be living through you vicariously 🫶 so incredibly happy + excited for you !
so happy for you jack!!!
every single time i watch your videos i am just so in awe of how you articulate basic sentences and the way your brain works. you just fill everyone with love and you should be so proud of that
oh I didn't expect you to make make cry on this video with all the life views. I'm so happy for you and really hope this new chapter is even more amazing than the last one!
jack’s sense of humor is soooo under appreciated 😂😂
I've lived in four different cities this year (my hometown in Portugal; my first college town; Bologna in Italy and in my country's capital now to do my masters). Moving away can be quite frightening at first, and as someone with anxiety, it's always a huge challenge but one I'm always willing to take. I see it as a fresh start, a new place full of opportunities, things to explore and people to meet, it's like starting a new season of your life. I'm a strong believer that if you have the opportunity to travel and live in a different place for a while, go for it, you won't regret it. Good luck Jack, New York is such a dream city, I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoyed Paris!
What jobs allow you to travel like this?
i love this outlook but i think it's important to point out that Jack is moving there already knowing ppl and having friends, i think it's much more difficult when you don't know anyone and you don't have an online platform to use for meeting people ://
@@user-qu8zs7vs1x i know the struggle but if it’s really something you wanna start doing again, don’t let anxiety hold you back. usually things turn out better than we expected. good luck i hope you get to start doing it again soon and everything goes well!
@@Dee-ux4vq i usually move around for educational purposes, and although i recognize i have a relatively comfortable situation at home that allows me to do this so often, i’m still a student so i always try to benefit from scholarships and European programs (such as Erasmus+), it really helps a lot
@@01Elvi that’s true, you’re right. everywhere i’ve lived in so far i went there without knowing anyone at first and ngl it can be quite lonely at the beginning. as an introvert, i’m happy being on my own most of the time but there are still some moments when you wish you had somewhere there with you. my tip is to just keep contact with your friends/family back at home as much as you can and also put yourself out there and take every opportunity you get to know new people, for example a class or any type of event you can participate in. also get to know the city and your surroundings beforehand (internet helps) and try to find any group chat of people you have something in common with (nationality, e.g if we’re talking about moving to another country). i guess it depends on how much you’re willing to cope with loneliness at first but from my experience, in the long term, we’re always able to connect with someone
Oooo hope your enjoying New York!! Honestly love your channel I watched one video before lockdown and now I’m so hooked onto this channel and your videos are just epic
Jack is so wholesome and so so genuine which is why it only makes so much sense that he won the creator of year, he really deserves it.
its so crazy to me that i've been watching since 200K and youve grown so much in just that year
Love seeing you make the most out of your opportunities and building a life you love! Travelling like this is such a dream for many people (including myself) and I am happy to see a young person making it happen for themselves. 💖
Hearing you talk about your life where you really appreciate and value new experiences is honestly so valuable for me right now. I'm doing an exchange semester and as a person that loves certainty and gets very anxious about the absense of it just hearing you reframe it in this way feels honestly so calming.
(I feel like you could also write an essay collection that would be beautiful and insightful just btw no pressure)
Thanks for sharing your life, I feel like it brings all of your community so much joy :)
i knew Jack moved to NYC because he always talks how much he loves books set up in New York.. and when he told he leaves Paris i just knew hahaha
anyway! so excited for your new journey, Jack!!!
Welcome to New Yawk!! ❤️ Hope you enjoy all of our incredible bookstores!! Also, Motorino makes really great Neapolitan pizza in the Village 🙌
I really loved the first newsletter. Keep 'em coming!!
Welcome to the city! I hope you're enjoying getting to learn about all the cook nooks and crannies there are to explore :D
You have no idea how much you inspire me, it’s insane!
such a swiftie to make sure to be in new york in time for release week ✨
your words on love and solitude... i cheered
Thanks for this Jack! I loved when you said we’re all taking life at our own pace ❤
you’re such an inspiration to me omg 😭 23 and doing what you want to do, i really hope i’ll be like you someday
jack really be living the dream huh lol i'm really happy for you!!!
how do you manage to make a simple q+a an emotional rollercoaster? honestly im in awe
Three star reviews can just mean a casual 'i liked this' so I don't think you should be afraid of them!
Welcome to New York!!! So excited that you're here. Can't wait for New York bookstore content.
Holy shit! This is absolutely amazing!! I never thought there'd be a chance I may actually meet THE Jack Edwards in real life and now all of a sudden you're here in NYC!!!!!!!!!!
“We’re all doing today for the first time” is such a lovely and comforting saying 💛
happy for you! I generally admire people who are out there doing what they love!! so amazing!! and I absolutely agree that travelling to a different place really does enrich your creativity and inspiration.
Congratulations! On the move, & the win!!! Have a lovely time!
I actually teared up when you said 'welcome to new york' at the end. we're literally watching you live the dream in real time and I'm so happy for you
I find Jack so fascinating. I think it's just that he inspires me to live my life the way I see fit and follow my heart. I guess sometimes it really is that simple :)
this video cheered me up at such a hard time!! sending all my love
Feeling down and Jack's videos always help.
You have such incredible perspective for your early 20’s… it took me getting to 30 to really value my solitude, and to be more discerning with my friendships. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
Oh my gosh I COULD NOT STOP SMILING this whole video!! So many things you said in this video touched me or made me laugh or both! Thank you for brightening up my day every time you post a video Jack, you're amazing :)
“So whatever mood you are in, you have a book that fits that mood”, that’s exactly what I always say when people ask me for advice how to read more! I always have about three books I read at any given time, one classic, one scientific, one modern, and it works so well, you’ll always be in the mood for one of them.
Always love seeing these notifications
The last house I had my husband built us a library with a sliding ladder :) It's the room I miss the most from that house. And maybe the crazy large shower that was big enough to have a party in 😀
this really felt like sitting face to face with jack and talking about life. and i needed this conversation about the whole becoming an adult so badly. i will be turning 20 in feb next year and honestly i am so terrified of it. the fact that i can no longer use the 'teenage' tag to escape responsibilities and the general expectancies from an 'adult' the whole idea of turning 20, completing my degree, planning my masters, moving to a new place and eventually dealing with the pressures to get married or to see someone by the time i turn 25 terrifies me to my core. so yes, i think i needed something like this. a very practical, realistic 'you're gonna be an adult' talk. thanks jack!
good for you Jack. I'm proud of you !
You put it so eloquently the bit about going to a new environment to get more creative as opposed to being on auto-pilot at home
Good for you, Jack! I l was born and raised in New York. I worked as a Reporter in Manhattan and loved every minute! I am 65 years old and have retired in Pennsylvanis. I love your Reading Vlogs. Yes, I am one of your faithful subscribers! Best wishes as you as you begin a new chapter in your life story!
oh my god m crying at not a major thing but just a simple thing you said ,when you answered the question about living as the main character.
I had been working so hard for a thing for the past year and I didnt get it , right now i dont know what I'll do career and job wise , and this thought took control of my mind that m just a side character and i have lived my life thinking i was the main one and it broke me , I even wrote about these thoughts to get rid of them but after hearing your answer it felt like you were personally talking to me and i just started crying so badly because I didnt share those thoughts with anyone but they were taking so much control over me.
Thank you Jack you dont know how much it means to me , you gave me a new perspective a much needed one .
Literally goals :D so happy for you Jack!
Congrats on moving to NYC! Hope I can bump into you on the street one day. I love your channel!
i'm So happy for you and proud to be a part of your 1M family , Your life is a great book on it's own, i wish you happiness
knowing that jack is living in my state, is bringing me LIFEEEEEE!!! praying i bump into you one day hahah
That sigh when you spoke about your book 🥺🥲 my goodness you're a precious gift jack ❤
Hearing Jack talk about romanticizing life, finding your own journey and the difference between solitude and loneliness is so comforting. I'm about to move for university and this video honestly just calmed so much of my anxiety.
One another note: I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one who can't stand the Spanish love deception, I genuinely thought I was going crazy
Hey Jack! Congrats on moving to NYC! I’m over in Brooklyn and if you ever need a New York guide/someone to teach you the subway systems and fight off subway hecklers, or just a new fellow NYC book-loving friend, then hi I’m Veronica! Not sure if you’ll ever see this, but either way please take care and have a good night! 😊
This whole video was so warm and comfortable. I just want to hug this incredible person !!!
Jack, you are so genuine and your perspective is so refreshing and positive! I love just hearing your updates and thoughts on things. Can’t wait for your book (take your time! we will wait for whenever lol) and hope you’re enjoying NYC and America so far! ❤
hey jack! i live in new york and i hope you have a FABULOUS time!
Honestly, I’m so thankful for discovering your channel a few months ago. You inspired me to move far away from home on top of studying English, so thank you.
Yayyyyy congrats!!! He inspired me to read again and got me out of a BIG READING SLUMP (like 5 years)❤️✨
Hearing your story about your first moment in NY is definitely so vulnerable, but the city is full of up and downs. It's an amazing city with full of beautiful places and people! Hope you enjoy it!
i just subscribed to your monthly newsletter and I really love that I can see a glimpse of you being a wonderful writer. xoxo love lots from Korea
Jack, everything you were saying about taking life at your own pace and your approach to your love life is 10/10, cue lady gaga's: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before
27:50 exactly! When you meet someone, you’re not their other half or vice versa. You’re both whole people !
I have to say as a New Yorker the love of New York is large part the knowledge that you have survived the trauma of being in New York so honestly I’m so proud of your subway experience! 🙏🏻
I loved this video sm! Very heart warming
OMG!!! Welcome to New York! Been a supporter from Brooklyn :)
Sameeee
Three Lives & Company is a super cute bookstore in New York. I got a signed copy of Ocean Voung’s Night Sky with Exit Wounds which was such a find. Your library goal will be reached in no time :)
I’m here for your book when you’re ready! I’m sure it will be amazing.
To me, you are like that bookstore in England, always changing your scenery and inspiring me with every new video you upload. I’m truly glad to be a part of the biggest bookclub of all time ♡
omg new york! wishing you the best time in the northeast. you came at the perfect time -- make sure to get out of the city & visit some parks while the foliage is still bright!!
Yess hope he makes a trip to upstate New York! It’s beautiful this time of year
As an emotional reader, you described it exactly how I choose to read mine.
Also this video has really inspired me to keep at it with my writing😊 thank you!
I love listening to Jack, he is so easy to listen and just gain motivation and feel inspired! Even though, I just can't stop feeling hurt when he insults the spanish love deception. I mean, yes, the book is not the best but I felt really good after reading it, it's like watching a movie or going on a date, you know.
I'd love to see you react to this video in a couple years' time! You might be in a totally different city, such a different place with your book and career and maybe in need of advice from the past. Would be surreal to see the change in perspective!
