    Jess X would have destroyed that limb in the beginning. It’s just going to take something way more impressive than this for me to even consider Schrade again. Especially after the massive injustice. I know it’s new people, but the nasty taste is still there. Forgive but don’t forget. That thing bites in too far for chopping in my personal opinion.

    Totally surprized by the Decimate Bolo, pretty damn good for the money. I hope your design will get a 2nd chance. :)

  • @alaskaraftconnection-alask3397

    Appears sort of a Barong/Bolo hybrid. Around the house/backyard performance looks good... however, an overstrike into the unknown (doing "machete stuff") vs. easy going casual could likely spell catastrophe/misadventures of chipping breakouts to the hollow-grind. Ergos look great tho'!!! Could make for quite an interesting big fish blade. Side-note Chris: I still have the BRK Springbok II 3V going strong that I purchase from you several years ago.

      Well thought out comment. Here in the Caribbean those "overstrike into the unknown" happen! Big fish blade?🤔

    I think that blade shape is called a Barong.

    • @lorddemonoss3945

      True. But I remember it as a leaf blade for a long time.

    • @jamesmiddleton6464
      @jamesmiddleton6464 Рік тому +1

      lorddemonoss3945 Barong is a local south Phillipine word to describe the larger (short sword size) leaf shape knife, usually with a handle that is dropped relative to the center line and has a hook at the butt for retention during a swing. So you are correct that the blade profile is a leaf shape. I used the term Barong to separate it from other size leaf shape blades or with different handles for example the Spyderco pocket knife that has a leaf shape blade. Not trying to say you are wrong in any way just explaining why I chose the word I chise.😊

    Not for nothing, but Gideon’s Tactical just pointed out that Blade HQ has the non-serrated Gerber Prodigy for $35. American made for $35. Not bad. Even though it is 420HC and a not-so-great handle.

    I have the first version , with no coated blade , for about 3 years. At first i was very sceptical about the 3Cr13 steel and the little hollowed grind edge....but the use or better saying the abuse i throw this tool to, is beyond logic! I really don't know what Shrade did with this heat treatment, but it overscores many other tools of the market, triple the price!! For the cons ...ok it's a heavy blade, you can't swing that beast for a long time,.....the next day you will need an orthopedic! But the handle absorbs all the vibrations, and i m opening paths for retrieving humting kills , at thick bushes with just raising it , and let the gravity work for me. Over all, great vfm , and i always keep it in use when i go for hunting.

    The stuff they are making this year looks better but I don’t know how appropriate AUS is in knives this large. I’d rather have the 64MN they used to use. It’s soft but it can take some serious abuse and excels in cold winter work. AUS is great for a thin slicer.. not a thick bushcraft blade but it’s all subjective I guess.

    that blade shape, I would class as a modified barong. not my usual first choice for a machete, but it does have historical and even some modern uses. the oldest I have heard of were used as a sword in the Philippines. I would like this a lot more if it were 1075, or even D2

    Didn't know they had a new version. I still use the old one around the homestead. Its my go to for a beast mode chopper. Always been impressed with it considering the steel. That blade shape is the Filipino Barong.....really useful all purpose design....The Moro tribesmen used them and scared the hell out of the marines when they occupied the Philippines late 1800s early 1900s.....they lopped off so many heads and limbs they started issuing LEATHER COLLARS CLAD IN STEEL......the reason marines are called LEATHERNECKS
    They also developed the .45 because of their toughness! The puny old pistols they were issued didnt pan out well....he tribesmen would take multiple shots and still get within killing distance
    FILIPINOS are tough with very skilled martial arts systems involving bladed weapons
    I have worked with many and employed them and you wiuld be hard pressed to find more honest hardworking people....devout christians and Catholics too

      It would still perform better if it had the traditional grind of the real barongs I own.....they are flat ground convexed with a distal taper....really helps performance
      The cold steel barong machetes are really good too in 12 and 18 inch....cheaper as well and made with actual carbon steel not alphabet Chinese pot metal

    • @gews6114
      @gews6114 3 місяці тому

      @@bradfarrahgerwing154 If it was flat ground it would be too thin and chip edge. Real barong has thicker spine. This Schrade is 3.9 mm spine, Cold Steel Barong is only 2.8 mm. Schrade is a heavy chopper and this grind and stainless steel performs well on it, I'll take over Cold Steel version for heavy chopper, it's more substantial blade.
