    Zach from The Try Guys gets a hair transplant! I thought this was a really interesting video and congratulations to Zach for confronting his hair loss. The problem is that I think he went about it the wrong way.
    No one should jump into having a hair transplant especially if they only got the push from their hair dresser. Hair dressers can be a great resource to find out the work from a clinic looks natural, but they usually know nothing about how the procedure is performed and will oftentimes believe the marketing that they read or are told by clinics. In this case, Zach's hair dresser thought that the robot makes this so non-invasive that it isn't classified as a surgery, and that there won't be any scarring. On both counts, HE'S WRONG!
    In this video I analyze what Zach went through and translate what is happening in the surgery so you understand what is really going on.

    I saw this doctor before they made this video. He recommended me transplant when I just went to get finasteride. And also wanted scalp camouflage. Fast forward to my 4th month on finasteride he said I was having maintaining results and that I didn’t need reconstruction and just says I would be fine with scalp camouflage. Glad I just sticked with finasteride.

    I don't think your other commenters are aware of the decades you have in the industry as well as working with the bald truth. I was shocked to see the surgeon not using a mask. That's just basic common sense. But of course the meta message was to downplay any semblance of a surgery. I was about his age when I had my first hair transplant in the 80s with the eraser sized transplants. I've had multiple hair transplants always strip method. I started losing my hair in my early twentiesand in my sixties I look like I still have a full head of hair. You know what's made the biggest difference? I started using 1mg finasteride but now use 5 mg along with flomax got BHP... What's amazing is how much more my hair has thickened and grown at this higher dose of finestride.

    • @brokenbutterfly3178

      Interesting. When did you start taking the higher dose? And how have you been taking finasteride in general?

    The fact of the matter is, Zach was botched. Zach knows it too. It was unfortunately a poor hair transplant that looked NOTHING like the marked outline he had originally been told he would get. As such, the doctor was deceitful and irresponsible.

    Just got off a video call consult with that Doctor. Instead of charging per graft, they charge based on “zones” ..ex. Zone 1-and-a-half =$11,000 ..can’t fathom that esp. if it’s not guaranteed results. Hope this helps yal.

    I did a consultation with Dr. Rome a couple of years ago before he joined Barber Surgeons Guild. I was underwhelmed by the before and after photos on his website, but this is the second UA-cam video I've seen detailing the before and after of his procedures, and he's clearly a complete hack. Yikes. So glad I did more research.

    i had a hair transplant ,and it went smoothly .i only did 2000 grafts. it was inexpensive and a weekend deal.
    before i left the DR told me that" by law" he had to state that some people get "hair transplant rejection"-
    and wouldnt you know that was exactly what happened to me!
    you could spend all the money in the world on hair transplants and your own body could reject the hair transplants.
    had he just been honest with me from the beginning i might not have opted for the transplant.

      @Ed im not even sure i could get my money back.
      he did warn me AFTER ,there was no signed contract on either side about money ,about results or even if that was a real doctor.
      we go to the doctors office and we take for granted that the man or woman we are speaking with is actually a doctor-how do we know?
      we have to do our homework ,as if WE are the doctor.

    • @Androshi
      @Androshi 4 роки тому +6

      @bandamakarony
      yes i did have rejection.
      you could tell if your body rejected the hair graft because its also a skin graft as well as a hair graft.
      my pillow and bed had weird looking hairs on it ,that looked like hair and shrivel up lint on the end of it -which was my skin or bits of my skin.
      when i went to the doctors office "NU HART" in new york - everything went smooth!
      i was greeted by reception, i spoke to the doctor,had a little bit of a debate with him -he wanted to do it his way and i kept telling him i wanted a lower
      hair line, he told me he has to do it things his way -because his way would lead to a better looking "denser" hair line and the way i wanted would look like a "lower" hairline but thinner -and thinner hair line would look bald again .
      so he measured my far head by his 4 fingers and that would determine my hair lines -and im ok with this because he stated if i wanted more -come back and we give you more -so that was fair.
      they pointed me towards their debit/credit machine -scanned my debit card -and now im praying for THE miracle!
      the doctor gave me a needle to turn my scalp numb- everything ok -my scalp is numb-
      then he took the needle again and this time to stop blood from flowing out -he gave me another needle to stop blood flow-
      everything ok still - music going -people chatting -im just trying to stay in a comfortable place mentally.
      then the doctor takes something and blows air in my scalp-he did that to stretch my skin which is normal -
      then after my skin is stretched enough ,he begins cutting with the scalpel.
      after the piece of skin leaves my scalp they sew it up immediately !
      the the DR leaves ,he goes in the back room where he has a machine that is like a microscope so he knows where to cut and then
      when he comes back -he hands the follicles which are on a tray to his nurses and they hold the tray while he punches holes in my scalp.
      and it took less than an hour. and when he was done i looked at myself in the mirror and it looked so fucking nice !!!!
      aside from the blood stain on my head the hair line he chose made me look at least 7 years younger!
      i was really happy with the work!
      now before i left he gave me pills which i think where "steroids and antibiotics" -he told me to not to wash my head for 7 days -"i think "dont quote meon that -it could have been 5 or 6 -but lets say 7 days -dont touch that area and i had to soak my scalp where he cut ,with salt water -to shrink the scar and better healing.
      now ,to be honest -i used to smoke 10 cigarettes a day back then. that could have been a factor
      i dont really know ,what exactly caused my rejection.
      i remember drinking a lot of vitamin C drinks to help-
      so my only advice to anybody is to start with a few 100 hair follicles to test it out.
      i have tried a lot of things after that ,i have tried "purple onion juice " that worked really well for growing hair that all ready exist but not for hair that is not there. i need hair where my temples are and the purple onions didnt grow that hair there.
      then i tried "cold laser "which really is a game changer because it changed my hair follicle from weak hair to thick and strong hair!
      thats a real good thing to buy ! i bought one for myself and it not only makes my hair thicker but it creates collagen in my skin.
      now this is what brought my hair back to life - MINOXIDIL !!!
      i went to a dermatologist ,and he gave me a prescription for "20% volume minoxidil"- and i received a 4 oz liquid and that liquid grew golden hair on my temples and scalp -
      then the gold hair turned dark-very dark -then i had normal hair on my temples and i started to devote a lot of liquid on my crown area.
      my hair was coming back ,in a matter of 3 months!!!!!
      the cost of the 20 %minoxidil was 60-70 dollars -i forget -per 4 oz
      i used up all my minoxidil ,so i had to go back to my dermatologist and he told me they made it illegal to prescribe minoxidil
      because it was being sold 2% over the counter. then it was being sold 5% over the counter.
      i was like "ok "-and the 2% did nothing - the 5% gave me a little bit of growth but not enough and my new hair is fading,and falling and then i said forget it !! im done!
      all of that happened to me in the past 10 years.
      so now here we are in the year 2019 almost 2020 and we are looking into stem cells.
      we have PRP and people are swearing by it.
      so this time around im doing things smart.
      im going to school in the spring 2020 for phlebotomy which is taking blood.
      once there im going to volunteer time and hours for PRP and stem cell therapy .
      and lets see how miraculous this PRP stuff really is!
      if i had money though ,i would buy minoxidil pills online and crush up the pills into a powder and see what would i get with 50-60-75 mgs
      in a simple alcohol/water solution. that stuff was a miracle in a bottle! and you could feel it working instantly!
      so thats my story. take what you want from it.
      just dont give up.
      the cold laser lamp i bought i got from ebay.
      i costed me almost 200 bucks and it really is worth it!
      a juicer for the onions or a blender.
      the onions have to be juiced fresh -i have found out that juice from yesterday doesnt work as powerful as fresh juice.
      i read we are getting minoxidil 10% being sold soon . that just might be a game changer for everyone.
      my only regret with minoxidil is that it could create water retention.
      it could bring you headaches.
      i remember spraying my head more than the recommended times -but i will swear on a stack of bibles it worked like magic!
      another thing is this -if you have poor hair on the sides and on the back of your scalp it might not help you when you have your hair transplant.
      i have sheep's wool type of hair so i was ok it thought - my hair was curly and thick .
      and PRP is not just 1 shot and your done.
      its a "series" of injections, so the first set of injections you may not see anything at all ,but by the 10th or 11th -you will notice
      your hair is changing.

    • @Androshi
      @Androshi 4 роки тому

      @bandamakarony i had experimented with my laser lamp and i found out that it made my skin plumped up very well!
      i guess it created or stimulated collagen in my skin ,because my wrinkle left me (im 54 now and at the time i was 47) after using the laser lamp.
      the laser lamps main use is too stimulate the skin through light and create circulation -thats what i was told - then after looking at my hair before and after -it had thicken my hair shaft by almost double -i had weak hair before i bought this machine and my friends told me how my hair looked thicker
      and did i do anything too it because my hair looks different.
      if i was you,i would stick to minoxidil ,reason being is this-you dont see much of a difference now ,but when you stop you will see an incredible difference
      when your hair is gone.
      what you need is something else to help you grow your hair on off days ,and if you look at these videos on you tube -a lot of black females are swearing by a product
      called "black castor oil" -they claim it helped them grow their hair quicker and healthier.
      could be something to look into .
      then i have seen some females buy a product called "monistat 7" which is a yeast infection cream -and they swear it grows their "edges" around the temples.

      @bandamakarony ok well about the laser helmet.
      my laser is a lamp ,not a helmet.
      my laser was made for hospital use;
      the "helmets" that are being made by people who are NOT really being hospital verified.
      you could experiment with your helmet and see if its giving you the best light by placing your hands under the light for 5 minutes.
      once you take your hand out of the helmet ,does your hand feeling like its tingling and prickly or is is just warm?
      if its just warm ,then it may be your helmet thats the problem.
      the feeling is always tingling and prickly ,because the light has just stimulated the skin,blood vessel,muscles and cartilage.
      i mean ,the laser helmet could be weak.
      but lets say its not -and you need a plan B -what else are you doing for your scalp?
      you should have a plan B,C

    I used this clinic about six weeks ago after doing quite a bit of research and visiting a couple clinics. I just stumbled onto your channel so I was very curious to hear what you’d say about the Zach video. My situation was quite a bit different in that I’m in my fifties, my hair loss started about 15 years ago, and it’s slowed down quite a bit. I’m taking finasteride, use DHT blocking shampoo and rogaine, and to he honest, have a body that really likes growing hair (except in my head’s problem areas). I primarily had a bald spot on my crown with receded widows peek and temples. I also had a bit of thinning behind the front middle section of hair (whatever that’s called). I’d say I had a Norwood 3V with a bit bigger bald crown. The hairline they designed was very conservative. I was initially feeling a little regret about not it coming down further in the widow peaks but decided I really need to see the final product before worrying about it. Looking at it now, I think it will be fine. The experience at the clinic was very good. Everyone was wearing a mask when they were working on my head but I’m not absolutely positive about the doc when he was making the holes. In any case, I wish I found your channel awhile ago but am enjoying your videos. You’re very knowledgeable and obviously have had a lot of first-hand experience.

    Joe > What would be interesting is a video that is about age and HT's. A lot of information about HT's is based on the idea of limited supply. In all cases there is indeed limited supply. However, just as it makes sense to give different advice to a 20 year old NW3, it also makes sense to give somewhat diffferent advice to a 58 year old NW2 when it comes to strategy of moving forward ... I understand that in theory the acceleration can not be predicted, but the amount of hair loss one experiences usually at least gives some estimation of the speed it will progress and if someone is older, the quesation is if you will ever reach that point. FOr example, if you have limited hair loss at 40, then how conservative should you be?

    I agree that Zach should have taken finasteride many more months before attempting a transplant. Aside from the cosmetic aspect of the medication that Joe mentioned, he doesn't know how his body will react to it in the long run, maybe he develops severe side effects that forces him to stop the treatment and at this point there's no going back. I wish him the best of luck though.

    Mixing medicine with capitalism always seems dicey. I did medical massage for years in NYC and management was always trying to get us to sell crap. The reps would come in with buzzwords and blatant lies like "Essential oils penatrate the skin and enter the bloodstream to do blah blah..." and I'd get in trouble bc I'd bring up the blood brain barrier and wouldn't lie (the stuff 'works' bc it smells good. Period.) Just a small example from the spa/sports injury world, but Zack's experience pissed me off. The set up for needing future work was the worst transgression imho.

So once something like replicel hits the market, and we're no longer limited by our donor area, we won't have to use finasteride anymore, as we'll be able to cover our MPB area with transplanted hairs.

      I don't recall saying this. Donor hair is not always DHT resistant, contrary to what the general rule of thumb is. I've seen plenty of cases where a hair transplant was performed, it grew well, but some of the transplanted hairs fell out only a few years later.

    The rule of thirds also does not take into account that people have different proportions in their face. People who have developed jaws and chins are the total opposite of the try out guy who barely has a chin (and thus small lower third). I also think it's odd that apparently they say they do not want a hairline that looks too 'young', as if that has ever been a problem. Old people who did did bald have low hairlines too. If anything, that looks great. Joe's points of supply and demand is pretty much the only real good point to not use a young-ish looking hairline. Another thing that should be taken into account is head shape. People with square-ish sculps typically need square hairlines and people with round hairlines (like young teens for example have) need more rounded hairlines.For the best result people's full proportions should be inspected, which is not really that difficult. I think the problems sometimes is with hair clinics is that they basically do some form of art, while at hte same not requiring the doctors to be artististic. I would rather have an artist who knows all about body proportions design a hairline than a typical surgeon, simply it is so important to have someone there who has talent and knowledge in the field of aesthetics. I mean, after 30 years of hair tranpslants, most clinics still create overly perfect straight lines as hairlines which really no human has naturally. Most hairlines have imperfections and are not that straight or consistant. It baffles me that 90% of the clinics still not have fixed this.

I think you were too kind and held back....I think your real view is the same as mine....the surgery was a bit of a botch job at best, his donor will look over harvested in a small square area on the back of his head and stand out, the placement of grafts looked spacey and will grow in poorly. I think he will initially be happyish but in a couple of years will regret that he didn’t do his homework. And never, ever listen to a hairdresser, if I listed to mine I’d snort cocaine every night, jack my job in and get some shit tattoos...

    I HOPE YOU REPLY! im 18yo, i lost my temples a year ago, and now extreme shedding is occurring in the frontal area whith a thin pattern starting to be visible, i live in a country where doctors have very low education about hairloss, ive done prp which made my hair a bit thicker but from what i have learned through research, prp will never be enough to address the problem and stop the shedding, now would you advise me taking finasteride or even dutasteride(cuz my hairloss is severe regarding my age), although most sexual maturing occurs at this age? so side effects would be more serious and real at this stage? help!

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  5 років тому +3

      I'm not a doctor, but in my opinion, finasteride is the best option for you IF your doctor approves the idea. Look into laser therapy as well but go to Alibaba to find a cheap laser cap. Don't spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on one. Also, don't combine treatments all at once. You may get a massive shed and if you get good results you won't know which treatment is responsible. Just try one, then add another after a minimum of six months and go from there. You have to be slow and methodical to understand what is working, and what is not working. Don't be in a rush to get a hair transplant either, Your pattern is just beginning and if you have surgery any time soon it is a sure bet you'll need multiple surgeries afterward.

I almost got a transplant from that guy after being screwed by another expensive beverly hills Dr. promising prp/acell would help my thinning hair. I didn't go with this guy because he seemed new to the HT field. My hair wasn't that bad before doing Prp/acell. Prp/acell made it worse so I started looking into a HT. I did get one and I made the same mistake as the guy on the video did in the way the grafts were removed. I should have never gotten prp/acell and never gotten a HT yet (both caused a lot of shedding). I'm on Fin now but if I should have took it 3 years ago to save cash and grafts for the future. My Dad is half my age 60 and having no signs of hair thinning, lucky bastard.

    Joe, I am wondering if this is an option for me in the future or not. I would say I'm at a N4 about at this time, but my hair has been through hell due to my health and history. No balding in my family at all except my grandfather on mothers had minor thinning in his 40s and still had passable hair coverage until he died in his early 60s. I feel like I got his hair genetics mainly since my recession began in the same way EXCEPT accelerated through pro-hormones (bodybuilding supplements). So how I look at almost 30 is how he looked at 60 due to the use of such hormones in my past. I quit taking them as soon as I noticed hair loss, but they seem to have triggered the process already. I am quite sick from unknown hormonal issues still (making my hair worse than it should be), but seem to be getting better and will wait for my hair to stabilize before I consider anything. I have a bad history with pharmaceutical drugs and will not take any finasteride; I will look at more natural options and lifestyle changes to manage, plus hopefully, a topical version or the new cassiopeia is an option in a few years. Would you say that a hair transplant is futile in my future without something like finasteride? I am not looking for my college hair, something more of like an upgrade to a weak N2 or strong N3 and maintain that as it looks fine on me since my hair lays down and is darker. Thanks for the insight if you have any for me.

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  5 років тому

      An HT would not necessarily be "futile", no. But holding off until you're stabilized would be the best option moving forward. You said you were taking bodybuilding "supplements". Do you mean steroids or actual pills and powders like creatine?

    • @AB-ou5qc
      @AB-ou5qc 5 років тому +1

      Joe Tillman, I was taking pro hormones back in 2014, first time taking was 2009. That’s what triggered the recession. They aren’t steroids but they aren’t your typical creatine. They were banned in 2015 thus ending me taking any since then and obviously my health declining and hormone profile being so off because of them. I used to take creatine and supplements like that but being in fitness so long before that found that those in a way were futile since I was probably getting enough creatine from the red meat I was eating. All I do to try and keep my testosterone from not being that of a 60 year old is take a good Vitamin D supplement and some Zinc/Magnesium/B12, but again, I am waiting for my health to stabilize before I even consider anything and my hormone profile to not be so erratic as you are suggesting as well. It’s a waiting game for now, but in the future as I stabilize I would love to reach out to you through your website. Thank you for the reply.

    Have you heard of topic saw palmetto? I saw a product for saw palmetto foam and was wondering if it worked as I believe saw palmetto is supposed to be an 5 alpha-blocker. Also, what is your view on this idea of scalp brushing using wooden brushes and the whole theory on scalp calcification and fibrosis? I saw a video of one guy who claimed to have reversed some of his hair loss with brushing. He showed his scalp before and after and his hair did seem to have come back, and the scalp he said was tighter on top, unlike the side skin that was looser. I started brushing my scalp as well. My scalp has gotten looser on top just as he said, but I haven't been able to notice any change in my hair loss. But my hair is longer so its hard to say. Also, since I started the brushing my scalp is healthier and my head doesn't itch as much.

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  5 років тому +1

      I think there may be something to it but for one reason only. Brushing your hair increases blood flow which makes everything better. Your hair, your skin, etc. I brush daily, and hard, and I don't consider it brushing my hair; I consider it brushing my scalp just because it feels good. Does it reverse miniaturization? I can't argue why it wouldn't as increasing the blood flow tends to do this. Same idea behind micro-wounding with dermastamping or dermarolling. Don't expect miracles, however.

    • @ex0gen
      @ex0gen 5 років тому +1

      @@hairtransplantchannel Yes, the blood flow certainly would in itself have a positive effect, not counting the other aspects of the brushing theory. I had an injection of PRP and Extra-cellular Matrix and did see improvements from the injection, which were documented by my doctor, though, as I'm sure you're aware, it doesn't bring back the dead. How about the topical Sal Palmetto though? Do you think there is anything to that as a more natural option to finasteride, one that, given its topical application, will not get into the blood stream to cause sexual side effects? One last thing. My doctor told me that micro needling can damage the hair follicles.

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  5 років тому

      @@ex0gen I don't think "natural" makes a difference. Saw Palmetto causes side effects no less than finasteride (when taken in proportionate and relative dosages). It is the act of DHT inhibition overall that causes the side effects. So if it were me, I'd go with the topical finasteride instead. Saw Palmetto is by and large ineffective because you have to take so much of it to get any effect. Needling can damage your follicles if you have a needle that goes down about 3mm or more, which you don't, so no I don't agree that they'll damage follicles. It may rip out some hair shafts, but that is a different discussion.

    • @ex0gen
      @ex0gen 5 років тому

      @@hairtransplantchannel I know "natural" can be ambiguous, but I mean it in the sense that artificial compounds tend to not be harmonized for the body, given the fine tuning of evolution to naturally occurring compounds. As a general rule, I would take the 'natural' option, if one is available, as it 'tends' to have less side effects, on average, is my understanding. The dosage issue you bring up is one thing. On the micro needling issue, I'm curious, how do you arrive at the conclusion that the needles would have to go down 3mm to damage the follicles? Is that because that is the depth of the organ itself within the skin?

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  5 років тому +1

      @@ex0gen I don't see how natural compounds are more harmonized for the body. Cyanide is a natural compound and if taken in excess, you'll drop dead. Regardless, DHT blocking is DHT blocking, and harmonization, whether there is any or not, has nothing to do with it. If you get sides, you get sides. I've dealt with enough patients that have tried both, switched back and forth and the outcome is the same; side effects happen with both, and neither has the advantage in this regard. Regarding needling, there aren't any needling products that go deep enough to damage the follicle itself. Hair follicles are between 4mm and sometimes 6mm long, but their depth is greater as they don't sit at the surface of the scalp and the part that would cause problems if damaged are near the bottom of the follicle itself. But the deeper your needle goes, the higher probability of fibrotic buildup. With shallow needles, fibrosis is a non-issue.

He may need another treatment down the road or risk depleting the donor area if he does not use finasteride considering he is balding at such a young age, mpb is progressive throughout the years

    Thinking of getting a hair transplant done on my scars caused by burns and corrective surgery using tissue expanders what would you reccomend. I am 41 and still have thick hair, do you think the transplants would take. Was burnt aged 6 months old and had corrective surgery 15 years ago so really old scars. Any advice welcome.

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  4 роки тому

      It can work out well but it is highly dependent on your specific circumstances. I’ve seen a lot of hot oil burn scars treated successfully but you need to find a doctor that has experience in this specific area. Dr. Wong and Dr. Lupanzula in particular are experienced with this issue.

    "by taking hair out at the back wont it make the back thinner?" The fact that hes asking these types of questions whilst he is having surgery and not before shows how naive he is and shows the lack of research beforehand.

      Of course it isn’t necessary but if you’re going to willingly let your hair fall out your hair will never be as it was before it was lost ever again. Transplants are never as good as the original thing. Maybe you should just go the other direction like my boy Harry @baldcafe.

      @@hairtransplantchannel well finasteride is mainly used to stop hair from falling and that's OK with me but letting already existing hair fall out would be smart in the sense of the person performing the procedure would have more of a clean slate to work with and also bringing photos of your hairloss journey would giving the surgeon a better understanding of your pattern of switch you lost your hair also i love @baldcafe. Do you think that any clinic that uses the ARTAS robot should be avoided? I was reading horror stories on Reddit, and it sounds like nobody is happy with their results. I hope I'm wrong about that and that ARTAS FUE is just as good as manual FUE. But in my research for a good surgeon, it seems like patients prefer manual FUE. I want to get a transplant, but I don't want to choose a clinic or method of surgery that I will regret.

    • @hairtransplantchannel
      @hairtransplantchannel  2 роки тому +1

      Not necessarily. The robot is a tool, and any tool is only as good as the hand that wields it™ ;) Hair Transplant Mentor accepted member Dr. Nusbaum uses ARTAS and his work is as natural and with as high a yield as anyone. Dr. Scott Boden in Connecticut also uses it and his work is also phenomenal. Then there is Dr. Ken Anderson in Atlanta. Uses the ARTAS and has great results. The problem with the ARTAS is that the company that makes it pushes it and sells it to anyone, and since it takes a lot of the work out of the equation for new clinics, you have a lot of inexperienced persons using it. So the key is to look at the results, but more importantly, look at the clinic and see what their experience is before they got the robot.

      Thank you for the advice. I am trying to decide which surgeon I should go to - Dr. Holt in Michigan, or Dr. Panine in Illinois. I was reluctant to go to Dr. Holt because he uses the ARTAS robot, but if that's OK, then maybe I should reconsider.
