Big Bamboo: Towering timber species

Big bamboo, giant bamboo, and timber bamboo are non-scientific terms to describe the larger species of bamboo, usually more than 4 inches in diameter and over 50 or 60 feet in height. what's the maximum footprint for asper, giganteus, and sinicus? when you go to Laos, please let me know where you find sinicus.

In south east Asia, the clumps of these species can get massive with more than 100 poles. I think D. sinicus is more common in the north of Laos. I look forward to embarking on a great bamboo expedition there.

@@bambubatu please be sure to let me know once you know the footprints of these bamboo species. I've heard of Sinicus in northern Laos but not sure where. I think it would be in the Phonsali and Louang Namtha regions. I was borne near Phonsavan, but I have little memory of it since we left the country due to the civil war.

Dragon Bamboo usually refers to Dendrocalamus asper (bambubatu.com/dendrocalamus-asper-dragon-bamboo/) or Dendrocalamus sinicus (bambubatu.com/the-worlds-biggest-bamboo-dendrocalamus-sinicus/)
