The forest in the last slide is Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), the Chinese species that's used for most commercial bamboo products.

I have several Oldhami, one about 30' one 20'. Is it possible to dig out a culm and plant it elsewhere? I have a rotary-hammer and a demolition hammer, both can be set not to spin, just hammer. Would a spade (SDS-Max) type attachment work? I also have a "Radius Garden 31.5 in. Thermoplastic Handle Root Slayer Shovel/spade". I split a 5gal Oldhami in 3rd's, two are thriving in the ground, one died. Since I was cutting kind of blind through the root, ball after taking it out of nursery black bucket, my blade damaged that culm, my fault. I also have two Bambusa textilis in large (low) ceramic pots that I cut the bottoms out of and prepared the ground underneath, same question re those as to replanting culms; maybe bad idea to use power tool/hammer on smaller diameter culms. This is in the Sacramento / Roseville Ca area. Many Many Thanks!

Sounds like you've got some experience with this. Splitting clumpers can be tricky, especially timber species like Oldhamii. You might try cutting a young culm into segments and propagating that way. Read about it here: bambubatu.com/3-ways-of-propagating-bamboo-and-one-is-pretty-easy/ If the bamboo is in a pot, it should be a lot easier to remove and do a root division, because you'll see where you're cutting. Good luck!
