    Loved all the information shared, as always. Questions:
    - what makes a massif a massif?
    - open clumpers? simply more space between culms? does that make it easier to harvest?

      Open clumpers are interesting. Yes, they're easier to harvest than a tight clump. Especially when you remember that the oldest culms, ready to harvest, are in the middle of the clump.

    very good session. What bamboo varieties would you recommend for making bio char in the northern and north eastern region of India. Thank you

      Any local variety should be good. Lots of bamboo there -- B.blumeana, B. Balcooa, D.hamiltonia and D.strictus, etc. Whatever is the easiest to harvest. If you're making biochar and want to earn carbon credits, contact me or visit Planboo.eco.

    Have you heard about read margin bamboo? I heard that the University of Alabama did a study on it and it’s one of the biggest producers of biomass

      It will survive, but I would recommend Vivax or Henon if you want a running timber bamboo.

    Which is the best variety of bamboo for thick walls and good for making Bamboo charcoal and biomass

      Depends mostly on your climate and what's available. Bambusa balcooa is very high in biomass. Best practice is to use the premium parts of the bamboo for high-value building material, and the rest for charcoal or biochar, regardless of species. Bambusa vulgaris grows widely all over the tropical world, but it's not high quality for commercial applications, so it's a good, abundant variety for char. Whatever bamboo you use, it's way better than cutting down trees to make charcoal.

    Hi, I found your channel by chance and I'm really impressed with the content.
    I am interested in bamboo farming for construction purposes and would like to know if you sell seeds for phyllostachys nigra.

      Thank you for watching. We don't sell seeds. But I would recommend buying small plants instead. (Seeds can be difficult.) Check this list of bamboo nurseries: bambubatu.com/resources/

      Dozens of species are native to India. Just depends on your end goal or the product you're considering.

    Through storms and strong wind, bamboo doesn't break like oaks. It bends and bends and bends . . . .

    I was under the impression that all bamboo shoots were edible, with some tasting better than others. Why is Guadua not edible?

    • @bambubatu
      @bambubatu  Рік тому +3

      I believe the bitterness and foul taste of the shoots are why they are not considered edible. Indeed, some species are better-tasting than others, but some are simply unpalatable.
