As usual, we composed the music (after all, we are composers) and crafted this video to show the beauty and intensity of this incredible Mass LARP.
A big THANK YOU to everyone involved in creating this video, to Live Adventure and all its teams (particularly Tobias who allowed us to be there and shoot everything we wanted), to our friends here in France and all over the world, and moreover to all the players and their limitless imagination.
We truly hope that you will enjoy the music and the images as much we enjoyed composing, shooting and editing this video.

I had to laugth so hard at the end. That dude was also at Drachenfest playing the same character doing the same thing. I think most of Larp Germany can remember him. "It´s ten o`clock! Then end nigh!"
This dude is a great friend of us, we love him. If you look at our other videos, you'll see him playing many years ago ! "it's ten pm, the End is here ! Oh No ! yes it is ;-).
These people put more passion into their outfits than most studios nowadays! Inspiring! Inspiring to know the world of the Middle Ages and fantasy remains so vivid in more hearts than mine!

The costumes here legitimately look better than most modern fantasy/historical shows. In fantasy shows, the production usually sticks to an easily mass produced design for armor so you get this very manufactured and artificial look and feel to them with entire armies wearing the same armor.
The beauty of LARP and especially this one is the limitless imagination of the players. We hope that our images and music are up to their incredible creativity.
The difference is these people clearly have an interest and passion in what they do, modern productions do as little as possible to achieve the bare minimum. Another funny thing is that they have better choreography and combat (even improvised) than the likes of for example rings of power with 850 mil budget

i am part of the undead flesh, a monk of a burnt down monastery who seeks revenge and destruction for the heretics, who've done this.
my group can be seen at 00:18, i'm the dude on the left :D never made it in a video before!
the costumes from most participants are breathtakingly awesome. first time i've been there i was unable to do anything but watching and drooling over the epicness
and yes, others inspire you to be more creative, work on your costume, come up with new things/mods/additons. its a fantastic hobby and a huge creative outlet!

@@BrokenTale oh i definitely had alot of great moments - seeing the holy nimoe perish in a huge plot scene was IT and OT a blessing to witness, hands down the greatest scene i've seen in larp in 7 years!
@@Feeluck Well thank you so much. We try to do our best with our images and music to make people feel what it can be like on the camps or the battlefield, the excitement, the fun, the fear sometimes, the awesomeness of the players and the game in general...
It would be great to be in touch with some of the members of your group to try to prepare something a little bit ahead of the game. We have met people there but once the game starts, it"'s very hard to organize anything, we run everywhere to get some nice footage.
It's too bad that you can't come this summer.

Bloody hell Larpers really took off. They fell off my radar a few years back. Last time I looked they were groups of twentyish people in a park wearing bathrobes and cardboard swords. Come a long way.

There are a number of LARP groups out there, and I have seen some amazing costumes and the effort really shows. I was at an event once with 200 people. So much fun.

@@ktmmatt7243 If you ever can, come to Conquest. The feeling and style of the whole event is insane. The sheer size of the thing and play outside of the battles you don´t see as much in videos is loudicous. There is like a third of the players that never go out onto the battlefield and spend the whole game having their game, trading, creating criminal organisations, doing diplomacy and so on inside the camps.
Now that is a larp I would enjoy watching. Better yet. Go pro several people in the battlefield and see their pov version of it.
Not sure the result would be like this one. Plenty of Go Pro on players videos around, the result is not really great as far as I have seen.

Well you have the fun of the costume which is the basic thing. But you have a whole universe and a story to play, your character to play, so many places and adventures to live... this is way more fun.

Yup, it's been 30 years since those years ;-) Haha.
Yeah, Germany goes hard on awsome costumes. It´s much more theatric and less system focused than it was back then, and still is to a degree in for examplke the US. So there is a strong focus on look, style and imersion, because you need to be more convincing as there isn´t that much of counting points or optimising for equpment values. If you rock up in full plate and an awesome ensamble no one is going to look at you if you are a bit harder to take down than the rules technically allow. Because we prefer the preformance feeling of the fight, not really focusing on the competetive sinde. The whole philosophy is "play for drama" if you want to boil it down.
@@theexchipmunk for us, when a player really plays, he or she becomes really beautiful and you can see it right away n the footage. It inspires for the video and the music. If playing was just counting points, then we would have nothing to capture.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. We have tons of footage, some good, some bad, many fails, as nothing is planned ahead. Then we have to choose the ones that can tell a story and we compose the music to try to 'glue' everything tight.

I don’t know anything of what happenings but it was awesome. I think that’s what matters.
it's impossible to tell the whole story in a short video like this one. As each and every player has its own story, and there are thousands of players, in hundreds of groups/camps, so much is happening simultaneously that no-one cans capture that in video. Actually, we tell our own story with the images that were relevant for us AND the music that we composed. I could say that the videos we make are as many gateways to trigger your imagination and lead you to places where everything is possible, beautiful and terrible at the same time ;-).
@@BrokenTale I definitely was open to a lot of ideas popping in my head I was think about being a scary knight in all black very tanky like with a pole-arm and huge shield. Would those two weapons work? No but would it be cool. Yeah. So in general what are these events called and where are they mostly hosted.

So how does a larp work? Are there rules? Is there an overall script? Is it played out like a competitive thing between the two armies that are fighting here? Or do people just role play and swing swords until they're bored? If anybody can spoon feed me because this is interesting, just don't understand how it works.
This is a good question. I will try a short answer from my point of view but I'm sure great players will come here and add their insight.
First of all, it's a game. There is a 'meta-story' in a universe, players -each one with abilities chosen by themselves-, non-player characters (players who are like pawns for the game masters with also their own abilities and role) and the game masters themselves. Each one plays its role inside a little story (each player has one with a background) inside a bigger story (the little group in which the player plays) inside a bigger story (the camp in which the player lives) inside a bigger story (the interaction between groups in a camp and with the different camps), in a bigger story (the universe with all its background), in a story (the big story of the event itself).
Our own role here is to try to capture moments and craft them into a video and compose music. You only have here a little glimpse of what I told before. If you scroll in our other videos, you can see other things, like an orc ceremony, a song of the undead people, rituals in a wood ... as all those aspects give life to the game, a culture.

@@BrokenTale Hey thanks! I appreciate your reply, and your answers! Larp seems incredibly fun! I think I will just appreciate it and enjoy it from a distance as man, those people are INTO it, the amount of effort into their costumes is fucking nuts. I don't have the time or skill to do that.
So I will just stick to table top rpgs instead. :)
@@Sovspot what you see here on this video is quite epic. We chose to show here this side of the game. In the coming weeks we will show other sides, less epic but so much fun for many players who hardly ever walk on the battlefield. (We still have to compose the music though).

I'm confused about the rules. Do all the attacks have to be super slow and telegraphed? Can you be super nimble and kill a bunch of people or is it meant to be more theatrical and less combative? Also, does armour do anything or is your shield the only protection? Genuine questions, I'm not a LARPer so I have no idea.

Not sure exactly of what you mean. I think they call them simply hammer blow, shield blow, sword strike ....

Were you there last summer ? Some other videos are on their way. It's hard to capture several thousands of people in a single 5:50 mn video !
They have catapults? CATAPULTS???!!!! What I wouldn't give to try this event out. I have only been involved in one LARP group, and I think I wat to try others.
They also have spells ;-). Imagine an enchanted catapult that inflict damages to all your Undead ennemies !
