I remember a time when I was trying out Tekken 7 for the first time, I was gaming with friends and I was surprised on the roster so I said I’ll just choose someone, and when I saw Lars, I really thought he was a cool character so I played him, and my friends instantly hated me for playing him as a noob and they went Devil Jin I was laughing so hard. It’s a core memory for me, when I get Tekken 7 again and Tekken 8 I can’t wait to play Lars again. He’s so much fun.

Lars and Alisa are the characters that made me love Tekken. I always liked Tekken since T3, but you know, it was just a fighting game that you pick up with friends to yell at each other. But T6 story mode made me love Tekken. First thing that comes in my mind when someone says Lars is the moment when he avenges Alisa and actually manage to beat Jin in a duel.. So idk, even if I play mostly only Bryan in T8 (Just like in every Tekken), I cannot force my self to even dislike them😕 And I must say, Lars players are usually chill Tekken players. I maybe faced only 1 Lars that ki charged. They are just enjoying the game and using the moves that the game gave them and I don't mind that at all

the hate for Lars comes from a place of ignorance. Stance pressure is fake unlike eddy or Reina. His neutral game is lackluster. Den 3 is only plus 5 which mean you can pc all his mid options or just eat the mediocre low. He still lacks a real threatening low and His frames are garbage on hit. I don’t want Lars to be op but if u actually break down his character, he is painfully honest to a fault. He’s a scrub killer sure but he’s clearly lacking when compared to other A-tier characters. Y’all might not like to hear it but he’s def getting buffs in season 2.
You can't powercrush SEN 1 after DEN 3 on block. Also SEN 2 will CH launch you for trying powercrush. How is SEN 2 mediocre? It's a chunky low that is like +6 on hit, only -12 on block and CH launches. Also in your opinion what is a threatening low? Since Lars can do fc d1+2 pretty fast in Tekken 8 for a low poke that does like 24 damage. He also has ff42 as well. What makes you say his frames are garbage on hit too?

@@CosmicVoid420 1. I just had my brother test it and yes you can pc sen 1 after den 3 2. Sen 2 forces Lars into crouch and all his options gives up his turn. His crouching 1+2 is fine if the opponent is turtling( it also requires full crouching). His ff 42 is super slow (as it should be). 3. His infamous den 3 is only plus 5 on hit w/o heat. His orbital is super slow. His db1 3 is minus 1 ON HIT. His high execution 14 frame launcher is launch punishable. He gives up his turn on everything that isn’t den 3. All his options to get into stance are fake and can be mid checked if not launched.

I feel like this character along with his love interest are hated together. Also I feel like story wise he's not that interesting but needs some more things to do to be notable. I played Lars a little bit. He seems pretty good and sometimes a little difficult to get used to twist play style.
I mean honestly Lars had a badass moment where he squared up with True Devil Kazuya and gave him PTSD. That's only in Tekken 8 too so I think there's a lot of hope for him having more.
@@paytonturner1421 The one thing about the Scenario Campaign in Tekken 6 is that I think it was meant to endear you to Lars, but the way it flows doesn't allow for it because most of the badass moments are in gameplay only, rather than through the story. But you figure the fact that he's able to beat Jin, Azazel (at least the first time around), and can square up against True Devil Kazuya, says a lot as far as his ability to be a badass.

4:04 I know I’m late to this, but Lars’s DEN 3 > SEN 1 can actually be challenged with power crush with 100% consistency with the whole cast. Against characters with power crushing heat engagers (which shouldn’t exist imo) he can actually just forfeit his pressure if the opponent calls your option. As I’ve mained Lars for about 2 and a half years counting Tekken 7, I think one of his biggest weaknesses is that his 50/50s are too symmetrical, as in he suffers more than other characters who create casino scenarios by being outright punished for the opponent guessing right. That’s just my take though, good video overall
The most annoying thing to me in this game was his uf3+4 stance. I spent maybe 2 houring labbing Lars with a high level player who's opinion I respect, and when we got to that stance, we realized how stupidly evasive it was as it coulf go both over AND under the majority of our moves. It was like a cracked of Akuma's demon flip with how inconsistent it is hitting Lars outta it. And losing 40 damage to a -4 mid because the stance is so difficult to hit isn't fun. Now the latest patch addressed this by expanding Lars' hitbox during the stance, so I'll have to see how consistently I can hit it. But man the character enables some real glue sniffing gameplay.
I like Lars for one reason and that he has not only insane amount of damage but also a super confusing mobility when he does a certain move and i use a type of move in his kit to send opponents up into the air and double kick them again, once they're on the ground and try to stand up to play offense or just stand back up, i use both atk buttons and press 2 to do a upper cut to send them flying and do more moves to keep them from attacking back, not many lars players actually wanna use this type of set cause its risky but they didn't know that it deals insane damage to opponents
He was my main in T7 when everybody hated it now i am still maining him in T8, loved how he creates pressure with his fake stances. Also he is not as easy to play with as much everybody thinks it is!
Every since tekken 6 i loved him. Wasn't thrilled about the nerfs in T7 but im still hardcore fan of his fighting style even now. I will be stuck with him
I main Lars since T7 it is true that he is a character that one has to go to the lab to understand the strings but it is actually enough to download the ghost of a good Lars to learn the basic strings. And then I wanted to mention that it only has two launchers, the classic ws2 and the other one is with uf4 and it's a hight, very risky
I picked him up in Tekken 7 and never looked back, I picked him when he was at his peak and stuck with him when he fell to his worst. I didn’t care about tier placement or nerfs he received, I first picked him entirely because I thought he looked cool and I stuck around because I genuinely love how he plays.
5:15 it's a power crush move, so you can interrupt the start with a low. It rarely happens to me, always catches me off guard when someone manages to break through it. Wouldn't call it infinite range either, that's reserved for Devil Jin's heat smash (pre-nerfs ofc) 😂
I've started playing Tekken since T3 (like a lot of the fan base) and while the game was really enjoyable (as a whole), I could never find a character which I'd particularly enjoyed playing with. Since Lars was introduced (T6), I immediately fell in love with the character. Like many others, I guess (since he was very popular back then)... He got the moves, movement, flow and design. He received a lot of hate in Tekken 7 but, unlike many others, that only made me love him even more! So, let the haters keep on hatin' and the lovers keep on lovin'... As long as Lars is in the game - I'll keep on comin'.
jin was the antagonist of that game so it makes sense. Someone had to be a protagonist. Lars hated Jin in tekken 6, but Lars had his back when he wanted to turn a new leaf in this game. So I really like him for that. Jin being an antagonist wasn’t executed very well just to push Lars as a character tho, I agree with you on that.
The thing about Lars is, he had to be that outsider to the main Mishima storyline in order to show that not all of Heihachi's family dealt with some kind of inner turmoil that would lead them down a path of evil. Jin's conflict with the Devil gene was what caused him to falter, so you needed Lars in that story in order to bring him back down to earth. Lars is the one guy that was able to resist that temptation to turn evil thanks to the moral foundations he was given by his mother, who told him not to hate Heihachi, and was there for most of his life. Whereas Jin and Kazuya (and now Reina), all carry some kind of trauma that causes them to waver in some way.
@@clippsz It definitely wasn't perfect at the time, but you get what they were trying to do after seeing Lars in Tekken 7 and 8. Lars IMO, is there to be a moral foundation for Jin just as much as Xiaoyu and Jun are. Lars being able to keep being resilient and doing the right thing (even though he easily has enough power and support from his army to go down a malicious path) shows that you can defy the curses of a bloodline and carve your own path. It's typical anime/manga storytelling at the end of the day, really.

this video is great there's not much i disagree with. although, if you really take the time to lab lars' DEN 3 mixup you can consistintly fuzzy it, at least for me, same with his heat. if you also play jin it's a nightmare for lars as he can just demolish lar's "gimicks." Also Idk if im the only one but i can also react to his silent entry mixups, both hits. so i feel like if you're a really good lars player if you fight someone who knows the matchup completely it is very hard to utilize him. lars definitely has to be creative and read heavy when played seriously. im not a lars main or anything (i main DJ and Jin) but i love lars, used to hate him when i didnt know the mathcup. so i see both sides. overall great points.
As a Lars player I need to remind you that even though it is somewhat fuzzyable on immediate timing. Lars is able to delay moves in that stance making efficient fuzzy not as simple. Important to note that if they start delaying options, sidestepping becomes viable again which I call the layer 2 of den 3
I hit TK on Lars and I can say one thing, he can carry most players to around red rank, after that people start to kinda catch on to your gimmicks and you gotta switch things up
Lars is the reason I started playing Tekken more seriously in T6 as I like his fighting style, character, and ((eventually)) his physical design. I even stuck with him in T7 when he weaker. T8 Lars definitely feels better mechanically and at this point I just embrace the hate for the character. Switching between those stances his much harder than people realize. Lars Army always and forever!
I am a Lars main and believe me he's very very difficult to play on Bushin + ranks cause he's neither broken nor has any OP move......And the fact you don't see him a lot in tournaments is the testament to this. Thanks man GGs
I've gotten so much Lars hate during T8's first few months that I really had to shelf him. That was my reward for sticking with him all the way back from Season 1 at his worst. With my other options outside of Claudio not really working out, I honestly might come back to Lars.

I love Lars I actually got him to raijin today since he’s my secondary and my main is Jin. I love his play style and his designs and the ninja/samurai outfit
I like Lars in Tekken 8 but I miss Lars from Tekken 7. Gimmicks aside I miss when 1,1,1 would wallsplat on CH, I miss when B1 would knock opponents back on CH, I miss when B1+2 and d/b1+2 launched on CH, I miss having d/f2,1 and being able to stomp on grounded opponents without having to go into stance to do it :/
Lars is almost the perfect B to low A character. A good lars can be oppresive, but not nearly as much like a good Dragnanov can be and he isn't almost widely agreed as the top 2 character in the game as Feng is. He doesnt feel ultra cheap due to how easy it can be to play him like a Victor or an Eddy, but he isn't cheap with a hard learning curve like a Xiaoyu. He has strong tools and some gimicks to him, but once you figure them out he can feel very honest on what he does with some minor acceptions. Combine that with a good character design, a good personality and story, and it's no wonder as to why he's both loved and hated, but he's in a good position as of right now, and can only go up in season 2.
Ever since he deflected that rocket in T6 with his forearm, heck, that entire opening in scenario campaign? The writers had sold me on him and now he’s all I play. Minus a few random select matches to make things fair when I fought my siblings and a few times I’ve tried to pick up Jin or Leo. Had no clue he was broken in T6 then came T7 and the suffering and difficulty ranking him up somehow made me enjoy him even more. Loved his style, story and combat style, now my boy switches stances in the best way possible with lightning trails while being so quick he becomes a ball of it and has one of my favorite pieces of fashion in the industry as a default; A freaking long coat?? The devs and writers gathered in their kitchen to cook up something special with this game. Gotta be a bonafide Lars main on the team that spoke up.🤣🤣

15f block punish is f 1+2 that leads to combo 14f block punish is f,b, 2,1 that leads to combo 12f block punish is f,2,1(Leads to stance or plus frames if you hold back) or f,2,4 (knockdown)
@@KanesakiHyudou just to add, 1+2 is -13 on block while fb 2,1 is -18 on block, only deals 20 damage and is very hard to do. Some said it's because the forward input is only valid when done at the very end of the block animation, which is annoying.
@@NormalHatter it's important to note that the block frames of a move do not affect how good a punish tool it is. Fb21 could be -50 and would still be good. These moves never supposed to be blocked and only used for punishment. Lastly it does only 20 damage but it's one of his best combo starters for 90+ damage with walls
Wish the DE1 can extend to DE3 so that he can combo with strong tailspin. Feng and dragunov can access strong tailspin using a 1 string hit move while lars has its only strong tailspin on a stance that he cannot combo properly
I actually love Lars. I picked him up in T6 and havent looked back but I will admit i find his playstyle annoying to play with and against. I'm probably the only person who says Lars isnt fun to play. I still love him as a character but the stances are just annoying to me.

I played around with him just to learn the MU and found him as annoying to play as to play against. I just do not vibe with how his moves look and feel. It's all so awkward. Playing with Lars feels like trying to fence with someone using a saber between their teeth. It's unintuitive, it's dumb, it's impractical and even if you win you feel like a clown.
I’m pretty biased since he’s one of my go to favorites, but since he’s one of my go to’s, I know the match up decently well. After actually knowing what the Lars is doing and going for makes an otherwise miserable match up a really, REALLY fun one imo. Or maybe that’s because I’m a movement junky and his gameplay is eye candy lol
I still main Lili and Jin but started to add Lars as a main in tk8. I never touched the char in previous games and after seeing story mode whos a good guy commander whos even more protag like than Jin. I had to play him. Hes my first fujin rank char and helped me relearn my fundamentals of tekken. Now I just have the highest dopamine rush hitting his stance buttons or Dynamic 3. That move looks so sick. Yea it was a mistake to make it plus 5 so Silent 1 just makes it a true frame trap but damn in commander Lars we trust.

nah, his f2, 1 sen 1 is a 12 frame natural combo/launcher in s2, bamco hotfixed the move with 2 weeks back then. edit :it also wall bounced too, almost leading to 98-100+ dmg.
Of all the annoying characters to play againts, i'd say he's the most balanced. Think about it. He still have bad lows,only has command throws and none of it wall splats or even ground breaks, doesn't have a parry, he's somewhat an evasive character but compared to feng or paul his evasiveness is at a low tier.
Yeah. I keep telling people that Lars is actually pretty easy to beat once a player figures out his gameplay style and remains patient. A good Lars player has to work 20 times harder just to win around against a good player using a top tier character.
Im new to Tekken and i picked lars because i thought he was cool. Some of his moves are so badass. I had no idea about his reputation so it’s kinda annoying when i see people hate on me for maining the character. But yea he is not as great as people make him out to me. Also the whole “hold back and guess.” Is exactly how i feel with everyone else’s character. So i say fuck em your characters are just as guilty.
I always thought he was cool and underrated. He’s definitely misunderstood by the playerbase because people hated when his DEN 3 got buffed by pretty much ignore when other characters get buffed. Next character you should cover is Azucena tho

one thing that got me to stop hating characters......learning them but to add to Lars's online bs: fightinggm once said that he hates online tournaments not just because of lag but because of lars players lmao
So something id like to point out. Firstly: while the silent entry is theoretically option selectable cant you just delay the buttons in the stance for a bit so it no longer is? its only 3 frames like you said. so if you aren't buffering the sen 1 but instead mashing it 3 frames late... well now its a true 50/50 secondly: lets talk about the bad stance transitions like df2. Yes this is 100% option selectable on block there might be some weird singular characters that cant, but for the sake of the argument lets say it is. DF2 for example leaves you at -3 in stance and -11 on cancel. so you would need an 11 frame mid with low recovery to beat all options and get your punish if they cancel the stance. but lets even ignore that. So normal df1 beats all the stance options. but for some reason you even so see some really really strong players miss this option select. Why? mainly just mental stack at least i think so. there are SOO many things and so many strong transitions to think so that being late on this is 100% like possible. AND THATS A WEAK TRANSITION FOR HIM. What about Situations like ws2 where he has 5 different things to do after the ws2 (do nothing this is safe, ws21, ws23, ws2~f, ws2~d) so you need to be so so fast to react to the stance which i would argue is impossible or at least near impossible to do. so its even still a guessing game. Obviously lars does take a big risk doing this. the stances are launch if the defender guesses right after all, but its is a guess. I would say that on top of what you said, pros don't really play Lars because while the stance transitions etc. are really hard to deal with and even if you NEED to guess. The risk reward isn't great for lars. Which means that as long as your punishment and your move choices are good lars will in a long term lose more damage from those 50/50s than he gets, because the risk is so much bigger. But all that goes out the window if you arent talking optimal play. Suddenly the infinite 50/50s just win games for free. And after all that. he has evasive moves like ORBITAL crushing mids that he most definitely should not have. there is no reason why at -6 on block after 2,1 he can mash an orbital that will evade like 90% of the mid checks and probably 100% of the high checks the enemy can do. and since its an orbital any (assuming it gets jump status at i9) i15 or slower low will also get crushed.
I also think Lars need some buffs or something cus all you gotta do is d1 or df1 and it ceases a lot of his “pressure” yeah he has a shit ton of options but a lot of the pauses he does between stances kind of fucks it up
The real reason I don’t really care for lars is because his hair is stupid and he’s swedish only in name. Otherwise I like his moveset… but I prefer his Tag 2 gameplay.

As you close in on Lars and he has no room to do his slower DEN 3 and hellsweep he can only resort to making opponent whiff by movement or panicking into something. Cool video❤
I love him, he is my main, it's sad that other people hate him, but I don't really blame them, since the matchup is kinda hard to learn. That also applies to me as well. I hate ling because of the matchup.
Lars is actually my favorite character. Love his design, love the way he moves, and he's so fun to play. He was my favorite since he came in Tekken 6 and he's still my favorite now.
The tldr on lars is like bears or zafina or any other gimmick character hes just a huge knowledge check once you know if he ever and i mean ever enters stance on block itd interruptable and the reason they buffed den 3 is because on block for a move that is at minimum 16 frame startup slow mid more than that in reality because of stance transition anyone could rage art and there was literally nothing lars could do but eat it. Now you can just powercrush to beat everything he has for free especially if you have a safe one since he cant duck out of den 3
My main gripe with him is an always has been how god awful his visual design is He has hair dumb enough to fit a Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist with a fighting style dreamt up by a grade schooler and clothes that even a 90's wrestler would find gaudy, dude even has a cape And what's worse is how all this doesn't even remotely match his personality, if he actually was a jovial somewhat fun loving guy who leaned into the anime/J-Rock/wrestling aesthetic i might actually have bought it But noo, he's supposed to be this grizzled, no nonsense military leader and is usually the most serious and up-tight person on screen, and yet he spends 2 hours on hair and another hour on getting dressed to then proceed to fight in THE most impractical way known to man
I main lars, I liked the character ever since I saw him in the naruto ninja storm series as a guest character however it feels like this character is what most call, ONE. BIG. FAT. KNOWLEDGE CHECK If I go against someone who has little to no knowledge about lars, I win the match 8/10, but against someone who knows what to look out for in my gameplay I basically just have to play the waiting game and wait for them to goof up somehow

The arcades in my local malls in my country only has Tekken 6-7 as its fighting arcade games made me learn lars and i just started kicking everyone's ass i get beaten by pro's from time to time like people who use lei or jin

I remember a time when I was trying out Tekken 7 for the first time, I was gaming with friends and I was surprised on the roster so I said I’ll just choose someone, and when I saw Lars, I really thought he was a cool character so I played him, and my friends instantly hated me for playing him as a noob and they went Devil Jin I was laughing so hard. It’s a core memory for me, when I get Tekken 7 again and Tekken 8 I can’t wait to play Lars again. He’s so much fun.
As a Lars main, there's not one thing I could disagree with. Even if I'm SGBing myself, Lars can be a little devious to handle when it comes to both using, and, fighting him.

Lars and Alisa are the characters that made me love Tekken.
I always liked Tekken since T3, but you know, it was just a fighting game that you pick up with friends to yell at each other.
But T6 story mode made me love Tekken. First thing that comes in my mind when someone says Lars is the moment when he avenges Alisa and actually manage to beat Jin in a duel..
So idk, even if I play mostly only Bryan in T8 (Just like in every Tekken), I cannot force my self to even dislike them😕
And I must say, Lars players are usually chill Tekken players.
I maybe faced only 1 Lars that ki charged.
They are just enjoying the game and using the moves that the game gave them and I don't mind that at all

the hate for Lars comes from a place of ignorance. Stance pressure is fake unlike eddy or Reina. His neutral game is lackluster. Den 3 is only plus 5 which mean you can pc all his mid options or just eat the mediocre low. He still lacks a real threatening low and His frames are garbage on hit.

You can't powercrush SEN 1 after DEN 3 on block. Also SEN 2 will CH launch you for trying powercrush.
How is SEN 2 mediocre? It's a chunky low that is like +6 on hit, only -12 on block and CH launches.
Also in your opinion what is a threatening low? Since Lars can do fc d1+2 pretty fast in Tekken 8 for a low poke that does like 24 damage. He also has ff42 as well.

2. Sen 2 forces Lars into crouch and all his options gives up his turn. His crouching 1+2 is fine if the opponent is turtling( it also requires full crouching). His ff 42 is super slow (as it should be).
3. His infamous den 3 is only plus 5 on hit w/o heat. His orbital is super slow. His db1 3 is minus 1 ON HIT. His high execution 14 frame launcher is launch punishable. He gives up his turn on everything that isn’t den 3. All his options to get into stance are fake and can be mid checked if not launched.

I feel like this character along with his love interest are hated together. Also I feel like story wise he's not that interesting but needs some more things to do to be notable. I played Lars a little bit. He seems pretty good and sometimes a little difficult to get used to twist play style.
I mean honestly Lars had a badass moment where he squared up with True Devil Kazuya and gave him PTSD. That's only in Tekken 8 too so I think there's a lot of hope for him having more.

@@paytonturner1421 The one thing about the Scenario Campaign in Tekken 6 is that I think it was meant to endear you to Lars, but the way it flows doesn't allow for it because most of the badass moments are in gameplay only, rather than through the story. But you figure the fact that he's able to beat Jin, Azazel (at least the first time around), and can square up against True Devil Kazuya, says a lot as far as his ability to be a badass.
At first, I didn't wanted to play Lars because he looked "Too anime" in my opinion, but after I saw his wall carry.... It was love at first sight ❤️

4:04 I know I’m late to this, but Lars’s DEN 3 > SEN 1 can actually be challenged with power crush with 100% consistency with the whole cast. Against characters with power crushing heat engagers (which shouldn’t exist imo) he can actually just forfeit his pressure if the opponent calls your option. As I’ve mained Lars for about 2 and a half years counting Tekken 7, I think one of his biggest weaknesses is that his 50/50s are too symmetrical, as in he suffers more than other characters who create casino scenarios by being outright punished for the opponent guessing right. That’s just my take though, good video overall
The most annoying thing to me in this game was his uf3+4 stance. I spent maybe 2 houring labbing Lars with a high level player who's opinion I respect, and when we got to that stance, we realized how stupidly evasive it was as it coulf go both over AND under the majority of our moves. It was like a cracked of Akuma's demon flip with how inconsistent it is hitting Lars outta it. And losing 40 damage to a -4 mid because the stance is so difficult to hit isn't fun.
Now the latest patch addressed this by expanding Lars' hitbox during the stance, so I'll have to see how consistently I can hit it. But man the character enables some real glue sniffing gameplay.
He's been one of the mains since his introduction, and will continue to be so.
I like Lars for one reason and that he has not only insane amount of damage but also a super confusing mobility when he does a certain move and i use a type of move in his kit to send opponents up into the air and double kick them again, once they're on the ground and try to stand up to play offense or just stand back up, i use both atk buttons and press 2 to do a upper cut to send them flying and do more moves to keep them from attacking back, not many lars players actually wanna use this type of set cause its risky but they didn't know that it deals insane damage to opponents

I main Lars since T7 it is true that he is a character that one has to go to the lab to understand the strings but it is actually enough to download the ghost of a good Lars to learn the basic strings. And then I wanted to mention that it only has two launchers, the classic ws2 and the other one is with uf4 and it's a hight, very risky
I picked him up in Tekken 7 and never looked back, I picked him when he was at his peak and stuck with him when he fell to his worst. I didn’t care about tier placement or nerfs he received, I first picked him entirely because I thought he looked cool and I stuck around because I genuinely love how he plays.

5:15 it's a power crush move, so you can interrupt the start with a low. It rarely happens to me, always catches me off guard when someone manages to break through it. Wouldn't call it infinite range either, that's reserved for Devil Jin's heat smash (pre-nerfs ofc) 😂
I've started playing Tekken since T3 (like a lot of the fan base) and while the game was really enjoyable (as a whole), I could never find a character which I'd particularly enjoyed playing with.
Since Lars was introduced (T6), I immediately fell in love with the character. Like many others, I guess (since he was very popular back then)... He got the moves, movement, flow and design.
He received a lot of hate in Tekken 7 but, unlike many others, that only made me love him even more!
So, let the haters keep on hatin' and the lovers keep on lovin'... As long as Lars is in the game - I'll keep on comin'.

jin was the antagonist of that game so it makes sense. Someone had to be a protagonist. Lars hated Jin in tekken 6, but Lars had his back when he wanted to turn a new leaf in this game. So I really like him for that. Jin being an antagonist wasn’t executed very well just to push Lars as a character tho, I agree with you on that.
The thing about Lars is, he had to be that outsider to the main Mishima storyline in order to show that not all of Heihachi's family dealt with some kind of inner turmoil that would lead them down a path of evil. Jin's conflict with the Devil gene was what caused him to falter, so you needed Lars in that story in order to bring him back down to earth. Lars is the one guy that was able to resist that temptation to turn evil thanks to the moral foundations he was given by his mother, who told him not to hate Heihachi, and was there for most of his life. Whereas Jin and Kazuya (and now Reina), all carry some kind of trauma that causes them to waver in some way.
@@clippsz It definitely wasn't perfect at the time, but you get what they were trying to do after seeing Lars in Tekken 7 and 8. Lars IMO, is there to be a moral foundation for Jin just as much as Xiaoyu and Jun are. Lars being able to keep being resilient and doing the right thing (even though he easily has enough power and support from his army to go down a malicious path) shows that you can defy the curses of a bloodline and carve your own path. It's typical anime/manga storytelling at the end of the day, really.

this video is great there's not much i disagree with. although, if you really take the time to lab lars' DEN 3 mixup you can consistintly fuzzy it, at least for me, same with his heat. if you also play jin it's a nightmare for lars as he can just demolish lar's "gimicks." Also Idk if im the only one but i can also react to his silent entry mixups, both hits. so i feel like if you're a really good lars player if you fight someone who knows the matchup completely it is very hard to utilize him. lars definitely has to be creative and read heavy when played seriously.

As a Lars player I need to remind you that even though it is somewhat fuzzyable on immediate timing. Lars is able to delay moves in that stance making efficient fuzzy not as simple. Important to note that if they start delaying options, sidestepping becomes viable again which I call the layer 2 of den 3
I hit TK on Lars and I can say one thing, he can carry most players to around red rank, after that people start to kinda catch on to your gimmicks and you gotta switch things up
Lars is the reason I started playing Tekken more seriously in T6 as I like his fighting style, character, and ((eventually)) his physical design. I even stuck with him in T7 when he weaker. T8 Lars definitely feels better mechanically and at this point I just embrace the hate for the character. Switching between those stances his much harder than people realize. Lars Army always and forever!
I am a Lars main and believe me he's very very difficult to play on Bushin + ranks cause he's neither broken nor has any OP move......And the fact you don't see him a lot in tournaments is the testament to this.

I've gotten so much Lars hate during T8's first few months that I really had to shelf him. That was my reward for sticking with him all the way back from Season 1 at his worst.
With my other options outside of Claudio not really working out, I honestly might come back to Lars.
My friend introduced me to Lars in Tekken tag 2, I started playing with him cause of his style & rhythm then I left video games for almost 5 years but now I have started practicing again with Lars & he is so overpowered compared to TTT2
I love Lars I actually got him to raijin today since he’s my secondary and my main is Jin. I love his play style and his designs and the ninja/samurai outfit
I like Lars in Tekken 8 but I miss Lars from Tekken 7.
Gimmicks aside I miss when 1,1,1 would wallsplat on CH, I miss when B1 would knock opponents back on CH, I miss when B1+2 and d/b1+2 launched on CH, I miss having d/f2,1 and being able to stomp on grounded opponents without having to go into stance to do it :/
Lars is almost the perfect B to low A character. A good lars can be oppresive, but not nearly as much like a good Dragnanov can be and he isn't almost widely agreed as the top 2 character in the game as Feng is. He doesnt feel ultra cheap due to how easy it can be to play him like a Victor or an Eddy, but he isn't cheap with a hard learning curve like a Xiaoyu.
He has strong tools and some gimicks to him, but once you figure them out he can feel very honest on what he does with some minor acceptions. Combine that with a good character design, a good personality and story, and it's no wonder as to why he's both loved and hated, but he's in a good position as of right now, and can only go up in season 2.
Ever since he deflected that rocket in T6 with his forearm, heck, that entire opening in scenario campaign? The writers had sold me on him and now he’s all I play. Minus a few random select matches to make things fair when I fought my siblings and a few times I’ve tried to pick up Jin or Leo. Had no clue he was broken in T6 then came T7 and the suffering and difficulty ranking him up somehow made me enjoy him even more. Loved his style, story and combat style, now my boy switches stances in the best way possible with lightning trails while being so quick he becomes a ball of it and has one of my favorite pieces of fashion in the industry as a default; A freaking long coat?? The devs and writers gathered in their kitchen to cook up something special with this game. Gotta be a bonafide Lars main on the team that spoke up.🤣🤣

14f block punish is f,b, 2,1 that leads to combo
12f block punish is f,2,1(Leads to stance or plus frames if you hold back) or f,2,4 (knockdown)
@@KanesakiHyudou just to add, 1+2 is -13 on block while fb 2,1 is -18 on block, only deals 20 damage and is very hard to do. Some said it's because the forward input is only valid when done at the very end of the block animation, which is annoying.
@@NormalHatter it's important to note that the block frames of a move do not affect how good a punish tool it is. Fb21 could be -50 and would still be good. These moves never supposed to be blocked and only used for punishment. Lastly it does only 20 damage but it's one of his best combo starters for 90+ damage with walls

Wish the DE1 can extend to DE3 so that he can combo with strong tailspin. Feng and dragunov can access strong tailspin using a 1 string hit move while lars has its only strong tailspin on a stance that he cannot combo properly
I actually love Lars. I picked him up in T6 and havent looked back but I will admit i find his playstyle annoying to play with and against. I'm probably the only person who says Lars isnt fun to play. I still love him as a character but the stances are just annoying to me.

I played around with him just to learn the MU and found him as annoying to play as to play against. I just do not vibe with how his moves look and feel. It's all so awkward. Playing with Lars feels like trying to fence with someone using a saber between their teeth. It's unintuitive, it's dumb, it's impractical and even if you win you feel like a clown.
I’m pretty biased since he’s one of my go to favorites, but since he’s one of my go to’s, I know the match up decently well. After actually knowing what the Lars is doing and going for makes an otherwise miserable match up a really, REALLY fun one imo. Or maybe that’s because I’m a movement junky and his gameplay is eye candy lol

I never touched the char in previous games and after seeing story mode whos a good guy commander whos even more protag like than Jin. I had to play him. Hes my first fujin rank char and helped me relearn my fundamentals of tekken. Now I just have the highest dopamine rush hitting his stance buttons or Dynamic 3. That move looks so sick. Yea it was a mistake to make it plus 5 so Silent 1 just makes it a true frame trap but damn in commander Lars we trust.

nah, his f2, 1 sen 1 is a 12 frame natural combo/launcher in s2, bamco hotfixed the move with 2 weeks back then.

Of all the annoying characters to play againts, i'd say he's the most balanced. Think about it. He still have bad lows,only has command throws and none of it wall splats or even ground breaks, doesn't have a parry, he's somewhat an evasive character but compared to feng or paul his evasiveness is at a low tier.
Yeah. I keep telling people that Lars is actually pretty easy to beat once a player figures out his gameplay style and remains patient. A good Lars player has to work 20 times harder just to win around against a good player using a top tier character.

I had no idea about his reputation so it’s kinda annoying when i see people hate on me for maining the character. But yea he is not as great as people make him out to me. Also the whole “hold back and guess.” Is exactly how i feel with everyone else’s character. So i say fuck em your characters are just as guilty.

Every character gets hate, especially when you're looking at Twitter. You're just being click blaity
So something id like to point out. Firstly: while the silent entry is theoretically option selectable cant you just delay the buttons in the stance for a bit so it no longer is? its only 3 frames like you said. so if you aren't buffering the sen 1 but instead mashing it 3 frames late... well now its a true 50/50
secondly: lets talk about the bad stance transitions like df2. Yes this is 100% option selectable on block there might be some weird singular characters that cant, but for the sake of the argument lets say it is. DF2 for example leaves you at -3 in stance and -11 on cancel. so you would need an 11 frame mid with low recovery to beat all options and get your punish if they cancel the stance. but lets even ignore that. So normal df1 beats all the stance options. but for some reason you even so see some really really strong players miss this option select. Why? mainly just mental stack at least i think so. there are SOO many things and so many strong transitions to think so that being late on this is 100% like possible. AND THATS A WEAK TRANSITION FOR HIM.
What about Situations like ws2 where he has 5 different things to do after the ws2 (do nothing this is safe, ws21, ws23, ws2~f, ws2~d) so you need to be so so fast to react to the stance which i would argue is impossible or at least near impossible to do. so its even still a guessing game. Obviously lars does take a big risk doing this. the stances are launch if the defender guesses right after all, but its is a guess.
I would say that on top of what you said, pros don't really play Lars because while the stance transitions etc. are really hard to deal with and even if you NEED to guess. The risk reward isn't great for lars. Which means that as long as your punishment and your move choices are good lars will in a long term lose more damage from those 50/50s than he gets, because the risk is so much bigger. But all that goes out the window if you arent talking optimal play. Suddenly the infinite 50/50s just win games for free.
And after all that. he has evasive moves like ORBITAL crushing mids that he most definitely should not have. there is no reason why at -6 on block after 2,1 he can mash an orbital that will evade like 90% of the mid checks and probably 100% of the high checks the enemy can do. and since its an orbital any (assuming it gets jump status at i9) i15 or slower low will also get crushed.

I also think Lars need some buffs or something cus all you gotta do is d1 or df1 and it ceases a lot of his “pressure” yeah he has a shit ton of options but a lot of the pauses he does between stances kind of fucks it up
The real reason I don’t really care for lars is because his hair is stupid and he’s swedish only in name. Otherwise I like his moveset… but I prefer his Tag 2 gameplay.
along with alisa he's a part of my "guilty gear characters slipping into tekken" group, alisa is worse but lars just drops like half of tekken fundamental rules

Also Boogard, pros don't play Lars not because of the SEN being prone to fuzzy (you can delay its options) but because character has virtually no neutral, it is just as in T7 but with a very big tracking buff. As you close in on Lars and he has no room to do his slower DEN 3 and hellsweep he can only resort to making opponent whiff by movement or panicking into something.

Mr. Boogard the reality is, Tekken players (myself included LMAO) hate every single character (my main character included, Lars) in this game 😂
I love him, he is my main, it's sad that other people hate him, but I don't really blame them, since the matchup is kinda hard to learn. That also applies to me as well. I hate ling because of the matchup.
Hating Lars impossible his hair cut though is a completely different story.

Lars is actually my favorite character. Love his design, love the way he moves, and he's so fun to play. He was my favorite since he came in Tekken 6 and he's still my favorite now.

Lars is not that annoying to fight if I'm being honest
The tldr on lars is like bears or zafina or any other gimmick character hes just a huge knowledge check once you know if he ever and i mean ever enters stance on block itd interruptable and the reason they buffed den 3 is because on block for a move that is at minimum 16 frame startup slow mid more than that in reality because of stance transition anyone could rage art and there was literally nothing lars could do but eat it. Now you can just powercrush to beat everything he has for free especially if you have a safe one since he cant duck out of den 3
My main gripe with him is an always has been how god awful his visual design is
He has hair dumb enough to fit a Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist with a fighting style dreamt up by a grade schooler and clothes that even a 90's wrestler would find gaudy, dude even has a cape
And what's worse is how all this doesn't even remotely match his personality, if he actually was a jovial somewhat fun loving guy who leaned into the anime/J-Rock/wrestling aesthetic i might actually have bought it
But noo, he's supposed to be this grizzled, no nonsense military leader and is usually the most serious and up-tight person on screen, and yet he spends 2 hours on hair and another hour on getting dressed to then proceed to fight in THE most impractical way known to man

i starting playing lars from tekken 6 until now tekken 8 . but i still have a love hate relaytionship with lars . idk why .
I main lars, I liked the character ever since I saw him in the naruto ninja storm series as a guest character
however it feels like this character is what most call, ONE. BIG. FAT. KNOWLEDGE CHECK
If I go against someone who has little to no knowledge about lars, I win the match 8/10, but against someone who knows what to look out for in my gameplay I basically just have to play the waiting game and wait for them to goof up somehow

I just roll my eyes when I load into a match against this character. People just play him because of his evasion so they don’t need to learn movement
i like how he mentions f3+4 and paints it as a move thats annoying but theres still risky involved for the lars player but then doesnt actually explain what that risk is....... no man that move is literally the perfect move, even if you walk it he just shoots past you so you cant even punish it. What exactly is the risk he is taking for pressing f3+4 in heat i would LOVE to know

The arcades in my local malls in my country only has Tekken 6-7 as its fighting arcade games made me learn lars and i just started kicking everyone's ass i get beaten by pro's from time to time like people who use lei or jin
