I fully agreed, there’s just not enough screen time for him and some of the pilots.
Villain? He’s not the villain! And he isn’t disliked. He no more cocky than Ice or Maverick. Not every film needs a villain.

He's no more cocky then young Maverick though I always thought Iceman got a bad rap. He really wasn't that cocky or arrogant in the movie aside from his first scene. In most of his other scenes he mostly comes off rather well meaning. All of the advice he gives Maverick is legit and heartfelt. I think Iceman's problem at the start of the movie was mostly over him holding a small grudge over the Cougar situation.
He's not the villain though. Not even an antagonist, Hangman was basically just a mix of Maverick and Iceman from the first movie. Love Glen Powell, can't wait to see him in more movies in the future!

Glen was my fav! That body, that smile smoke show, feast for the eyes🥰 He wasnt a villan just cocky and they even wrote it to where he learned and his team spirit was there in the end. Just like Iceman. So happy for his success.💖

The actors that weren't Tom Cruise weren't actually filming the planes, but they were sitting in the front seat of the jets weren't they? So was the real pilot of the plane flying the jet from the backseat?
I believe they used cgi on the planes to make them look like single seat planes
But some of them did get to fly (maybe not on camera though) because he mentions in another interview that after shooting the movie he continued the training and got a pilot’s license.

Loved the movie, but they put too much emphasis on Tom Cruise's character and not those who would be taking over when Maverick retired.
