I love that perfect timing at the end as Adam and Hoss grab hold of Joe’s arms to prevent him the distraction of a pretty face. Those brothers moments are priceless! 🙂
Actually all 3 of the brothers turn to watch her walk by, then kind of lock arms with one another to get back on track. Watch it again, it's pretty funny. 😉😃
Robert Lansing was an American stage, film, and television actor. Lansing is probably best remembered as the authoritarian Brigadier General Frank Savage in 12 O'clock High, the television drama series about American bomber pilots during World War II. Amazing series. I never really appreciated it as a kid. But, now…..wow! Great storylines, amazing set designs and always a moral to the story. Hollyweird couldn’t hold a candle to these gems anymore. Sad.
What really gets me about these Western, is when they are trying to stop someone from escaping, they shoot at the person when the horse would be a bigger target.
Well in "The Gift" I'm pretty sure that was the only time the bad guys thought about shooting someone's horse trying to escape and it was the white horse that was supposed to be a gift for Ben.
The time period for the television series is roughly between 1861 (Season 1) to 1867 (Season 13) during and shortly after the American Civil War. During the summer of 1972, NBC aired reruns of episodes from the 1967-1970 period in prime time on Tuesday evening under the title Ponderosa. Googled info.
Food in general was more expensive back then because they had no automation. Potatoes had to be dug up by hand, packed, and shipped using horses. Used up a lot more man-hours, and everything took a lot longer. I can build myself a decent table in an hour using my power tools and standard lumber, but back then I'd have to do all that sawing, sanding, joining, etc. by hand, and it would take days. The only thing that was cheaper in the 1860s vs. today was TAXES.
@@user-pd7il3xz5j Pretty sure the last few seasons are in 1874. Season 1 and 2 is 1861, Season 3 is 1862, 4 is 1863 and 5 is 1864 and 6 is 1865. Ain't no way Joe would look 10 years older only two years after season 6
Interesting how these sitcoms were the mother of all these up and coming actors, and actresses. Rober landing was always the cool and confident sort of character, like Humphrey Bogart. Not on the same level only like him.

41:46 That was a straight up bushwackin'. Ben didn't even _offer_ them a chance to surrender, knowing full well he had the drop on Trask's men, and shot them in the back like a coward. Dishonorable.
Completely agree I was immediately disgusted and disappointed. It only showed you how much they feared Jed. Punk ass mood, he should have finished the woman before she betrayed him.
When the episode started, I thought I'd get to see a married couple of equal partnership, with mutual trust and respect. Sadly, that wasn't the case, it seems.

Highly disappointed and been in his sons shooting men in the back. They met their match and decided to play dirty, that one action sunk this episode. That's a Lost for the Cawtrights.
Robert Lansing is a terrible, over-bearing, "intense" "actor" who could ruin any scene and has done it many times.People mistake histrionics for acting...
see? Again why bonanza is not a great show like Gunsmoke was.....here even with a decent script they still couldn't allow the episode to stand on its own...they just had to make it about a Cartwright..this time old Ben...even after the guy has killed a half dozen people...shot them in the back etc..old Ben says "I think I can reason with him" lol..bonanza was watched for simple stories...then you shut it off and forget it...Gunsmoke was watched for adult situations that made you think....after you turned it off..
Season 2 had the most badass episodes this being one of them. I love Bonanza season 1-6
The Dark Gate w/ James Colburn ♥️👍
@@larskrogh586 scary episode and that's why I love it. Bonanza does the best horror themed episodes
1-6 were also my fave seasons. Why? Because Pernell Roberts (Adam) was in the series then.

Robert Lansing was enigmatic and had range as an actor. He could be a solid good guy or reveal a dark malevolence
that made him an excellent villain.
You got that right. Either role- super cool.
Loved Robert Lansing acting.

He really carried this episode.
I think the most dangerous place to be on earth is in an episode of BONANZA.
😂😂
Wrong…anywhere near my bathroom after I had six bowls of chili is the most dangerous place.

Lansing was in one of my very favorite episodes of Star Trek.
No kidding!
Great episode with Robert Lansing. Weasel has been killed in so many episodes he should be called Lazarus🙄
🤠✌🍿🎬
LoL
this has to be one of favourite western series.
Yours?
1. Bonanza
2. Gunsmoke
3. Rawhide
4. The Rifleman
It's all about Sierra business. Nice episode. Ben Cartwright has done his best. Western Classics. Fantastic episode. I enjoyed it.
Great cast and story line.

Best regards luck and health.
Love bonanza , especially little Joe
Excellent Episode!

Enjoyed this episode with the whole cast
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching! 🤠👌🎬🍿
This was a really really good episode
Oooh You Cartwrights are all the same !
You damn right !
Ya gotta love a western....pistols that dont have any recoil.
And for some reason, they only "crease" an arm and zero blood from a gunshot lol
Watching from South Africa🔥👌
Classic western.
Great Guns. They never seem to run out of ammo. Either that or we just don't see they're using speed loaders on them there Colts.
It’s sad How Ben tried to talk to Jed at the end but Jed was so full of rage, he ended up getting killed smh
Jed? Can't fool me...thats Gary Seven!
or General Frank Savage.
Is his wife the cat?
Thank you.
Ben is so quick to put his sons into harms way. Must be he knew that the writers would not kill any of the Cartwrights off the show.
It's a wonder that the Cartwrights don't spring leaks everytime they have a drink what with all the bullet holes they've gotten in the past!
That was a quick recovery from a chest wound, and without pain relief!
It was just a crease
@@coltgun876 shot him front on, no way it was a crease. He’d have died in real life.

0:50 "50 cents a pound for potatoes", in 1865?..... THAT'S what I pay TODAY!
That was when Ireland had no more potatoes. They were expensive in America.

Funny that the guy shots in the back has even not a hole in his jacket, and a trace of blood : the magic bullets of Hollywood. lol.
I know right? Not the slightest thread broken on his jacket but a .45 slug just penetrated it.
