Background separation and far-side key light are the two things every filmmaker should learn for filming interviews. They make a maaassive diference. Great tips and a great video as always!
Appreciate it Kasper

For sure brother send it over
Yooo what’s up Alex! Sick tips here bro! Filming some interviews for a corporate event in Dallas in a few days, this is amazing.
DESMOND!!! What’s up man, thank you and I’m glad it helps. If you have any questions in regards to INTERVIEW or Lighting for an interview, let me know. I would be happy to help you out brother 🙌🏻
all of this for free though! I'm really loving these in depth videos Alex. Also quick question do you use manual focus only or a bit of both?
Hey Nita, yes all of this for free!!! A lot more coming soon! I use strictly manual focus mainly because my camera doesn’t have autofocus
Can you use and do you recommend any budget friendly light and mic boom / c stands ...
cheers Mate awesome vid :))
Good video ,shooting into a corner also helps to create depth , and flat wall will mostly not be good for this , unless its a style you are going for , shot gun is best pointed towards the chest , not exactly at the mouth .
great tips
Thanks Allen I appreciate it brother
It's very helpful video, thank you. 03:31 is just pure good advice.
Thanks Vaidic glad you found the channel!
Top as always Alex 👏 I made on sunday an interview with an old but very famous german singer 🎥😀 Film coming in about e months hopefully
That’s awesome my friend please share the link when it is available. I would love to see it. Are you going to have English subtitles?
@@Alexzarfatifilmshi Alex, this film is not ready but I uploaded some test sequences for my action trailer 😅 if you want to have a look, here is the link ua-cam.com/video/15AFUTaZqLQ/v-deo.htmlsi=kaHa3DHqPGeTaJDv best cinematic greetings from germany my friend
This was an awesome video! For a budget of $500-1000, what lens would you recommend to for THIS style of interview shooting? I'm super new to this
I love the 50mm sigma art you can probably get it used for like $400
@@Alexzarfatifilms Sorry for another noobie question, but is it this one: SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8? I saw a few on eBay that had the word ART, but this one didn't. Just wanted to confirm this was the right one. Thanks!
@@dankim864 no I was talking about the 50 mm prime. I’m not sure how that particular zoom lens looks so I can’t vouch for it but definitely look into the sigma art 50 mm prime. I have the full frame version and it’s awesome.
@@Alexzarfatifilms Hey thanks for being so responsive man! And apologies ahead of time to ask one more question, but just want to be 100% sure I'm getting the right lens. This is the one I found: Sigma Art Prime 50mm F/1.4 HSM DG Lens (for SONY E) (53786749). I'm pretty sure this is correct, but just wanted to confirm. Thanks again brother for everything!
What camera to use for cinematic podcast?
FX3
If you’re in a budget, what would be a great lens for all around usage?
That really is such a tough question but the first question I have is what’s your budget? And what do you shoot mostly?
@@Alexzarfatifilms $500-$1000, I want to get into more cinema, I do music videos mostly for quick cash
@@tarrookeen5771 with that price range I really love the Sigma are 50 mm it’s my favorite lines and I found it on eBay for like 350 bucks used
@@tarrookeen5771 Sigma art primes are all really nice
@@tarrookeen5771 you could also go anamorphic with something like the Sirui
Where’s the interview? Couldn’t find it
What interview?
Hector from troy is that you?
😂😂😂 yep gave up acting and became an indie filmmaker for fun 😂
But this “law” is not always true. It depends on the protagonist and the location. For example, I once interviewed the director of an art museum. And it seemed important to me that I could still see the paintings in the background. So I reduced the bokeh a lot. Looked much better. Because the director should be shown with the environment for which he is responsible.
100% every situation is different
Alex, doing my first boxer interview and came across your video and boy did it help with my anxiety. Your setup in this video will be my go-to from now on. After testing it with myself at home, all I can say is WOW! I'm good to go. Thank You! Love your work. @laredosportspics and @laredoheadshots I'm a Sony user with the A7R5, A7R3 and a variety of lenses and lights.
That’s awesome man. Good luck with your shoot. Glad I could help.
