On my old BMW E39 this exact same job took about 45 seconds with no tools needed! What a fantastically bad piece of design on this engine! What were BMW thinking?? Anyway, very helpful video guide, thanks
Excellent video, was dreading having to tackle this, now...no prob. Most of the other e53 af replace vids are for the simple square ones. Have wondered why they have different types af in the same model x5..perhaps its oval for diesel and square for the petrol x5's ..? Thanks a mil..
Great video. You make it look so easy as compared to the other video i watched. What year model is that E53 on this video? Seems like its a lil different with other 3.0 diesel videos ive seen and i say a lil different with mine as well. I have a 2003 E53 3.0 but my air intake looks different from that on the video. Cheers!
You've got to be kidding me. The air filter needs to be changed every 40-60.000 on most cars. If you don't know what to do with money, change it every month.
@@fixanddrive i think i have done a million without changing it thats why i was trying to find a video with N57 engine.thanks a lot bro now i know where the fuck it is located.😁
@@blackdotlv nobody saying engine won't work with old and dirty air filter but that filter will be restricting far more air than the new filter = less power. If you can DIY air filter replacement, it's an easy and cheap job, there is no reason not to change the air filter every 2 years or 20k km. And oil on this 10+ old BMW 10k km max. It's a small price for avoiding major problems or even engine failure.
BMW seriously got this design wrong. Excellent tutorial through.
Great Job Mate ... video was comprehensive and easy to follow ... thanks a million.
Great, thanks for sharing. A big help for me doing my service this weekend!
Far better than the Autodoc video ,, can see everything you do here nice and light ,,thanks again

Terrific video. Thanks
The worst air filter assembly of all time
I remember when I done mine on my old E60 I had to buy a flexible screwdriver!
Great job. buddy
Thank you very much. Very usefull.

thx dude finnally a bmw with an air filter like mine , but I came here for the mass air filter ... thought i can spot it and I failed
Wait, I have this model year, same engine and I don't have the tension strut? Was that standard on all diesel X5's or someone removed mine?
Which model? F01?
You make that job look easy! its not, for an air filter...
never give up, don't pay garages hard earned money :)
How do you remove that complete housing
Always skip music when making videos like this
Me "i ll install an conic filter to my x3.... " Bmw " FUCK YOUR DREAMS BITCH" me. "Ok then i ll install it to my alfa romeo 156 2.4JTDM
Very bad design when compared to the TDS M51D25
Are joking man ? 40.000 km ???? You need to replace the oil and filters once 10.000 km at MAX !

40.000 km is especially tooooo late for diesel cars

I changed mine at 30.000 km I put K&N
Just used 5 hours for this job. Worst design EVER!
That's why I've stayed with toyota.. To clips and i am changing air filter this is bunch of nonsense stripping half the engine to get to that filter.
