Cheers to Erol for making this video! Jeers to BMW for making the interior filter, a regular maintenance item, such a fussy thing to change! I had done this job once before, two years ago, and didn't remember a thing about it. Didn't remember removing the air duct last time. Thanks for your video!
Cheers right back at you. So needlessly painful maintenance item isn’t it? I envy your ability to forget the pain of it from the first time you did it:-)
@@ErolEskinazi I undertake a lot of painful jobs, so that was two years ago, I guess. Heh heh. All I remembered was sliding the cheap filter up vertically, and later seeing how it was done on a Honda mininvan and how EASY that one was. Last night I removed the panel, and then ground to a halt just trying to get that bottom retaining clip off! Wanted to use the brain and not break it, so I went looking for a video.
Bought new one package with two filters yesterday and the guy had me convinced i just needed the two for my X 5 cabin not three arggg.. going back once more..thanks for your help
Thank you for sharing...I was able to replace mine this morning. The airflow is much better already. That back filter clip was the only snag, very challenging getting it clipped.
Oh gosh, I think is time to change mines 🤔. I’ve never done it. They must be filthy. Hey Erol, we both have almost the same cars. I have the 01 E39 & 2012 E70 diesel. Again, thank you for sharing.
It will be extra satisfying for you to change these. There is kind of a weird pleasure in taking really dirty or old stuff out of the car and replace it with fresh and new isn't there?
Dealer wanted $700 to replace the inner and outer cabin air filter ! Hahahaha yea right around 50$ in parts and 650$ labor. That crazy. I guess that why they are called the stealership.
That is unconscionable. it is a 30 minute job for amateur DIYers. Probably faster for a professional mechanic. So I can see them conservatively charging 1 hour of labor + parts. Let’s say $300 all in with 2024 prices. But, $700? That is wrong. Hurts the BMW brand.
Thanks good luck. Bimmer Marketplace has a nice close up of the recurcilation air filter change as well if needed. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/UjixJ6OfcbQ/v-deo.html

Thank you.Wow dealership wanted $400 to replace these filters.
$400????? That is taking advantage of someone, I wouldn't go back to that place. This is 10 min of work for someone who has done it 100 times.
My dealership wanted $324.18

goes to show you, no one cares about your car more than you. Viva UA-cam DIY channels!!!
Usually do my cabin filters every 15k miles. For the recirculation filter, every 2 years at the same time as your brake fluid. 2017 F15 X5 xDrive35i

Great. I am glad this was useful to you and you got through it in the end.
Thanks, I had no idea where the recirculation filter was. Lol haven't changed that in like 4 years 😂
Yeah. It is tucked in there pretty good. If I had not seen it from someone else, I would not have found it either.
Just found it in my vehicle and it looked terrible, going to BMW to buy one today. Not cheap but need it today.
Thanks for the video. The one under the passenger front is a pain in my ass. Changing these on a 2012 BMW X5 x35i
Ming Li I agree. That one is unnecessarily difficult isn’t it?
which way does the air flow?
The air flows inward. In other words, from the passenger seat side of the car towards the drivers side of the car
Thanks Erol. Worked like a charm.
Fantastic. DIY community performing strong and saving money along the way.
3 filters in total on my 2013 x5 f15 opposite sides for uk models 1 underneath glovebox 2 in engine bay 😊

What is the brand name of the filters you used? Where to buy them?
