This Is The Most RIDICULOUS Air Filter Removal Ever, 2006 BMW 320D E90 Air & Cabin Filter How To DIY

- I've encountered diabolical cabin filter changes before where you need a 5 year old's arms and contortionist-like flexibility but this is by far the most ridiculous air filter removal procedure I have ever seen.
FYI this is the M47 engine fitted to earlier models not the later N47.
Air filter: Hengst E377L
Cabin filter: Hengst E1959LC
After watching this video i suddenly realised the filter doesnt need replacing
😂
Mate am serpised any air gets through to the filter considering how dirty the engin bay is 😩😩
This car probably hasn’t been cleaned for 6 years to be honest, my latest purchase, last owner barely used it for years 🤷🏻♂️
solid tutorial, going to attempt mine the next time the service is due!
Something to look forward to!
That is sooo complicated.I got just one simple thing to do.I want to replace the hose that goes to air filter and it just won't click.I don't know what is the problem. My fingers in pain but it wont fit firmly.
Is it possible to from the maf sensor just use some pipes and re route it to a normal cone filter at a better position? :)
Yes it would make sense to do that
Thanks for sharing. Want to do it myself.👍👍👍
2nd only to the exhaust manifold to downpipe nuts on a 1300cc Vauxhall Viva .
I could describe it but that would undo all the great medical help I received after leaving the company with a fleet of them.
I haven’t had the pleasure of that job but there are plenty of cabin filters that made me want to quit. VW 2.0 TDI EGRs are up there too!
Thanks for uploading video ❤
There's no wonder BMW charge what they do for a service...... If in fact they actually bother to change the air filter.
They’re not all like this Paul, I’ve never come across an air filter as bad as this on any car including BMWs. Cabin filters on the other hand are a nightmare!
whats the point in replacing the air filter in a filthy engine bay like that, surely you would steam clean it first, would'nt you ???
The engine bay cleanliness doesn’t affect the air intake?!
OMG
this is not the way dude
and work with 2 hands
dont try this with one hand dude
Hows it done then?
@@MorbidTorov search replace turbo on bmw 320d e90 / e91 then you wil see
You will see they put the filter first and then the case at last
I know its hard to believe but thats the way it should be ok
How much does it cost to replace a turbo 318d
A little rinse wouldn’t kill anyone 😃, solid vid👌🏻
I don’t think previous owner had washed the car in 4 years, thanks!
Great tutorial, best I've seen on UA-cam and I've watched many. Can imagine the engine designers looking at the engine on a CAD screen thinking 'oh here's a nice place for the airfilter tucked neatly in this gap' making it easier for installing the engine as a unit on the assembly line with no thought about future access.
Thanks Neville, it’s as if the engine should be the other way round, I’ve never encountered anything like it on all the cars I’ve worked on!
@@IAMASPANNER at least the EGR is on the front this way, some cars have it buried at the back...
@@simontist indeed! Take a look at the EGR on VW’s 2.0 TDI.
I agree fully with your comment "but this is by far the most ridiculous air filter removal procedure I have ever seen". I changed the air filter on my 330d yesterday. I would have NEVER been able to without following these "How to" UA-cam videos. Whoever approved the design should have his/her arse kicked
Petrols aren’t much better, have to remove the air box and flip it upside down to undo the screws, insanity.
I remember doing these many years ago. Always hated them. End of the day it’s a serviceable item, why has it got to be such a twat to do.
It’s excessive, no idea how they could leave it like this, even dealer mechanics must hate it.
Nice useful video and to be honest you really done a great job by having your phone/camera in one hand then working with the other on top of that narration too well done ❤
Thanks for the feedback Istvan 👍
that is bloody redculous, i was gonna replace mine today but fck that,
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this - it's bloody ridiculous!
I've worked on many different cars and have never had so much trouble replacing a service item.
Have you seen the Haynes manual on this? They literally cheat and skip over having to remove the brace!
Apparently you're supposed to use new bolts when you replace the stiffening braces....🤣
I have not seen the manual, I went into this completely blind, couldn’t believe it at all. The petrol version isn’t very friendly either, you have to remove the air box completely as the screws to open the air box are underneath!
That's really a pain job, just by looking at it before you start stripping off all the parts. I wonder not all mechanics will go ahead to replace air filter, they will say yeah all done,
I’d like to say I hope that’s not likely but unfortunately I know better, plenty of garages out there that would probably do that.
After this video I got some doubts about last service air filter replacement made by a generic service station. They were told to give me back the replaced filter, but at the end they said they forgot my suggestion and scrap the replaced parts. I think my BMW is still having original one after 270.000 km.... 😞
First time I changed my air filter on this engine i armed myself with a Phillips and a flat head screwdriver, and gave the job 10 mins max🤦♂️
2 days later after watching youtube tutorials and purchasing the necessary torx bit sockets i got to work.
Once finished I received a CPD anger management pass certificate in the post, and an invitation to appear on The Krypton Factor
After taking 5 mins to remove the air filter on my Lexus IS250, I’m glad I never bought a BMW. Never had interest in one, never will now 😂
Great video. No offence to the owner but man that thing needs some TLC with cleaning. Even the cabin filter is manky. That'll be bringing all sorts of crap into the air you breathe :(
It’s very tricky to replace it again
The bolts on the wholes 😅😅
After 3 days and watching tutorials
I made it 😊
😅
Congrats to BMW engineers. Worst airbox design ever!
Can we use a custom sport one ?
This is a serious shit job , i know your frustration lol
Never known anything like it since. Cabin filters on some Peugeots and Fiat 500 are bad but this was ridiculous.
Unreal, almost like they designed the engine back to front! My Audi is a doddle to work on
It’s insane! If your Audi is one of the engines I’m thinking of then you only need to worry about the heads of the screws rusting and rounding off for the air filters.
Bloody hell dude don't you ever clean that poor car
Bought it like that tbh
So what engine code is this one
M47
Wow!! Thanks mate. Totally agree. Very ridiculous but thank you for a great and excellent video. 👏
JOLLY GOOD SHOW OLD CHAP . LIKE YOU MENTIONED ABOVE ,IT IS UNBELIEVABLE ,HOW GERMAN DESIGNERS OF SUCH A GOOD CAR ,MADE SUCH A MESS ,ON THIS CASE
THANKS A LOT FOR THE SHOW.
