@@trelisman1673no, abroad people have tested it against the best off roaders and it does everything because of it's low weight and small size while all other off roaders are big and heavy.

Tuscon suprised me. Grand Vitara is a practical choice
My biggest surprise was Xuv700 not able to complete first challenge and grand vitara able to complete it
Vitata has higher gc and smaller in length.
The Hilux is undefeated. But seeing it go up against the Jeep Wrangler would have been interesting.
Also against Isuzu D max
Against a bunch of crossovers, what an accomplishment. It can't compete with real off-roaders

Superb Autocar !! The Jimny shines all the way ... laying to rest the usual "underpowered" nonsense churned out by almost everybody... including Autocar !
It's underpowered on highways for sure. Power is not relevant for going over a ditch or a muddy slush. If that was the case , Jimny would have been deemed more powerful than a dodge demon.
Jimny is unstoppable, i have been driving it to a very harsh road and the performance is just the best, sometimes even when it get stuck in an extremely bad condition, it's easy to recover
My top 3 favourite:
1. Tucson
2. Grand Cherokee
3. Jimny

Man. Tucson is such an underrated car! It got tons of features with very good drive quality and AWD too.

It seems the Jimny is the best. Some of them are just large cars being sold in the name of SUVs. Well ,on a lighter note, the Alto could have defeated them all easily.

Tuscon surprised me was not expecting it will come out but VW, Hyryder disappointed.
Side slope:
should have tested Jeep Cherokee , it would definitely not have disappointed

I have been using Hilux (outside India) on a daily basis for the last 1 year. I have been traveling daily off the road(rocky roads, rivers, slippery mountainous with sharp turn, etc). It has never disappointed me & over came all obstacles. It's a very nice car but not for the majority Indian market.
During the side slop challenge, it should be on the L4 setting & would have not stopped at all.
The moment I saw hilux in the list... I was like.. This competition is done already 😂

I'm a Gloster owner with 50k+ kms on the car. I've found the car capable of doing anything that any full size SUV can do. Highly undertested and undertrialed car I must say.

Grand vitara was also delight one to watch
Despite it being two wheels drive it tackle every obstacle with an ease
having comparatively small wheels and not designed to this terrain it docile very nicely
of course the bigger SUVs performed fantastic but Grand Vitara purely justifies it's price tag

Softroading was nice to watch but #autocar @autocar if possible make a longer format video of hardcore offroading with SUVs like thar, jimny, Gurkha, scorpio N, fortuner, hilux, isuzu DMax, Wrangler, Defender, LC300.
Would also love to see the real SUV of them all "Safari aka Gravitas" with its FWD doing these tests 😂😂

A review of the performance difference between a stock Jimmy and Hilux vs a modified Jimmy and Hilux would be interesting to see. Maybe compare the stock models to 6thMile's Jimmy and Hilux with the suspension and tyre upgrades ?

Tests could have been a little more harder. Testing the AWDs in pure slush would be interesting to watch and some amount of puddles and articulated tracks would have given it a more promising result. 🙂

The Fact that there's a Maruti in this kind of competition but not a TATA is Embarrassing and Flustering at the same Time. Hope TATA does something in the next 1-2 years with their off-road oriented vehicle's department and give us a banger once again.

You should have an episode in which you can take cars that feel to consumers that they can off-road but don't show that on paper and you can try the Harrier, Safari in these terrains

Most people who own the the soft roaders will never do these obstacles. Tucson was great for a soft roader. A hilux will do what a Jimny can and a Jimny will do what a hilux can. But people will buy it for different reasons. The Jimny is reminiscent to the Gypsy in India and will go almost anywhere with it's narrow track and lightweight body, but now with a difference...a little comfort and sophistication 😊

It will be most slippery after the rain…during the rain it’s much easier to gain traction specially with running water since the top soil is usually washed away…it’s something I’ve experienced in my off-roading adventures….

I love off road videos like these.
At first I was concerned that the 5 door Jimny had lessen its offroading performance compared to the 3 door version. But this video just blew all of my concerns out of the window and I found myself with excitment while watching the Jimny in the entire video.
