Bendix King is known for some of the best radios below Harris, Thales, and Motorola. Now my Moto XTL5000 has the main chassis that weighs a ton! It would be a perfect candidate for this type of rig since there is a separation kit that allows the head to be placed in a separate area from the "brick" or main chassis. The Cat5e port is for utilizing iP interconnection between multiple radios and accessing them via computer or when configured for mobile digital data but limited to 9600 baud because of federal regulations.
Another, current offering is Midland's MicroMobile® GMRS Ammo Can Base Station for MXT500 - MXPW500 looks pretty interesting, Uses 10 amp-hour Lifepo battery and is built into an ammo can. You can access the radio and control panel when you open up the can lid. MSRP is $649.99. It's made for Midland's MXT500 radio, which is not included. (If the $399 MSRP radio was included, the package price might be a bit more attractive.) Thanks for your video. Always nice to see innovative products.
@@lostangeles4476 thanks, and I totally agree that the Midland product is great. The BK Tactical Mobile Radio is WAY overkill for this application, but it’s intriguing.
You'd pay $250 used for a military charger for that battery, I have one here and it is BIG, NOISY and HEAVY. The mere fact this charges it in place is worth the price of admission!
I made one for a buddy of mine, just doesn't have battery backup. He can take it vehicle to vehicle plug it in away he goes. The one I built cost 200.00 materials, labor and radio was extra.
@@AdventureCruiser Motorola TXM - its basically an APX mobile in a lunchbox with an O3 control head. The TXM2000 is a single band based on the APX4500MP, the TXM3000 is a multiband based on the APX8500MP.
@@AdventureCruiser They're quite cool - from what I understand, they're only sold new to very specific (mostly-federal) customers. I've never seen a used one come up for sale, though I would love to have one.
It's kinda cool. It is not $5,000 cool, at least not to me. For that kind of cash, I could buy a really nice radio,, battery, charger, some metal and all the metal tools needed to build the enclosure, build it to my specs....and still be at a fraction of the cost.
BK wasn’t being creative. Moto has been doing that for years. Many years if you count the PT400 lunch pail radios to the current TXM series that were based on XTL, and now APX mobiles.

Original MSRP was $8k+
A UHF model sold on eBay Oct. 20 of this year for $4,995.00.
