Window Trim Install Made EASY

- Window trim install made easy by using pre-assembly. I used pocket hole screws and glue to preassemble my LP Smartside Trims. This method keeps the joints perfect. @Lpsmartsidesiding trim is awesome for this!
We tack these up with the Paslode 16Ga, which is okay to use, but we still come behind and fasten fully with a siding nail.

As a remodeler, I always envy watching new home builds. Everything I do is "customized". Rarely do I ever find anything plumb and true.
Same brother
Ive been on many fucked up new builds. Roofs are never square
Amen
I have yet to trim a window like this without having to custom fit it. Don't feel too bad.
This... Lol. Not one house is square 30+ years later. I do only custom work. Even building house it's custom.
Had to come see the comments to make sure he did this right according to the experts
🤣🤣🤣 same
Haha
Lmao this is great
😂😂😂
😂😂😂 every time
It used to take three of us just to get it crooked and then argue about how to do it wrong next...
lol
Exactly
Perfect 👌
My belly jiggled
Legit😅
So I'm a contractor for Renewal by Andersen in Houston which is Andersen's custom home window and door replacement company and this guy has it so easy man. Houses in Houston are almost always in terrible condition and nothing, I mean nothing is ever plumb or level, drywall returns will be over an inch out of square and don't get me started on brickwork here. Their custom window and door line is made to be retro fitted into any opening and has a groove all the way around on the outside for L-channel shaped trim and I have to scribe the shit out of almost every piece of trim I put up to close the gap tight enough to be able to caulk and not be filling half inch voids. I wish I could do Hardie like that which is what we usually use in the south but it would never work, don't even know if you could do Hardie like that. Also yes Andersen has the most expensive windows and doors you have ever seen, you thought those basic sized windows were expensive, go get a quote for their custom window line. I'm talking like over $3000 windows after labor and everything. I did 20 windows one day last week, $60,000 and that was with a discount.
Done that. Had a charlatan project manager show up and say “what have you been doing, there’s no trim up”
Rolled up the garage where I had them all built and started nailing them up about two minutes each. He had the deer in the headlights look, said nothing, hopped in his Prius and left. 😆
Next time tell him tickets are on sale at the box office . Show starts in 1min
"Prius" 😆
@@travisrhodes1477damn that’s a good ass line lol
Prius says it all really.
I just started building my frames and then painting before install. Holy moly, so much easier. They looks so much better. I do still shim mine all the way around. I use a pack of small ships on every frame.
I read the entire Ryan's ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.
I work for RBA. And ive never done any new construction. Always re-installs, This would be awesome.
This assumes one is capable of producing that level of precision in the shop away from the window 😂
You shoudnt be working in a shop if you cant build a square
@@mattnelson7781 especially when EVERY window manufacturer I’ve ever seen provides both nominal and exact measurements directly on their windows. 😅
For anyone wondering, the jam around the window that meets the trim is 1 1/4 inch deep. It sticks out a quarter of an inch past the trim here so he's using 1 inch trim
Love that this man ignores the cold.
And his tool belt would make Madonna blush.
This is the beauty of low profile vinyl trim that transitions into a thin exterior finish.
Damn bro, I’ve been watching you for a fewwww years now and I can definitely see a difference in the work attire, no noisy compressors in back, the best tools since you review almost everything you use for your trade!! And your always sharing killer tips that some ppl might not think of. I’m sure you have almost too many jobs now a days since your work is amazing, you have a great attitude, treat employees good (most of the time😅) , and I love the content! Let the blessings keep coming. Then you can retire before65 lol
100% on board with pre-made trims, outside and even inside if possible.
What’s the formula to measure how to cut?
@@roz4747 Measure outside of window, add 1/8". That becomes inside dimension of trim. From there it's just laying out pieces as you wish. Generally the bottom is that number. Sides are plus the width of trim. Top is plus the width of trim times 2. There are exceptions to that, but that's the generalized version of it
@@CorwinBos damn, I’m lost but thank you for trying!!!
it's amazing ingeniring by Anderson window and door
Thirty years ago when I was trimming new houses i would make a table and preglue and assemble all the door casing units, First builder to see that gave me a hard time when he saw them all leaning against a wall while 'setting up. After a while I used the PUR system to glue. Installation was a snap. This was before the days of split jambs with preinstalled casing. and such. Piece a cake...
That looks good I have been In construction for 30 years. Have seen nothing like it. Doesn't mean that us good have to see it. But I still use calling before I put it up. I call outside the window before I install it and calk top And sides
I roll a perfect joint everytime too.👌
underrated comment
I'm glad you did it all in the beauty of the shop
I’m glad to see trade skilled workers are able to monetize their work 👌
I read somewhere Canelo was done boxin but my mans went straight to hangin windows?? sheeesh
this guy can mail a complete job all by himself 🤣🙂🤣🙂 easy money saving expert
Paslode is a great tool to have. Especially for jobs like this.
only in America you find professional skilled med to excellency
Spoken with authority, pure skill. 😁
Plastic, stick and cardboard houses everywhere. No wonder tornadoes just wipe them off in an instant. Long gone the days of log homes, stone houses, brick walls, heavy duty roof tiles.
good luck pre building your window packages in British Columbia
ok, thats handy...and I see your leaving a gap, presumably for sealant? why not run a bead before you install the preform so you get a seal all the way up the house?
The windows are taped off. They are already sealed.
@@RareVBlue thanks, I didn't notice the weather tape...that does make me feel better. But they are still gonna seal the gap they left right? IMO, it still seems easier to lay a bead, press the frame over it, let it squeeze through & tool it. I suppose thats probably the painters job
@@mtraven23 Window tape makes it to where there is no need to seal that gap. If there was no window tape you would want to seal the gap as well as put sealant around the perimeter behind the trim. Sealing that gap after using window tape is purely an aesthetic choice and has no function really. That being said, some people do tape windows off improperly. So sealant will act as a backup. And as you stated, the painter will most likely seal that gap if it is being painted just because the painter will most likely not take the chance of it not being taped or sealed properly.
@@RareVBlue thanks, I appreciate the explanation!
@@RareVBlue Would the nails for the trim he's putting up be a problem for the tape?
Homie was right, he rolled a perfect one.
2023 who still uses passload
Much lighter than full battery operated. Smaller too. It’s an option.
Murica. Just Nailgun everything.
Davenport Iowa watching, AWESOME
Those spacers are perfect because when they fall off they’re nice and big when they hit you in the head.
It's light plastic, if that hurts you then you're in the wrong profession
bunch of real pros in the comments
I am aroused by how easy this install is 😂
'In the beauty of the shop'... hahaha
Always dado out the backside for the flange in the nails in the caulking and it’ll always be tight and right in the joints will always be perfect
Caulking leaves no spacing. It's perfect every time.
the quality of the window meke a big difference
I have a Ryobi nail gun. Batter only. Been using for nearly five years now. Cost 80 bucks
Wowsir😮 I've never seen an nail gun like such as you have and great idea 💡
Awesome! I always pre assemble my interior door & window trim. Make install a breaze & flawless miters. Great vid 👌
Man he does such good work best show ever
This man is so talented think of how much good he brings to everyone compared to the weirdos in Hollywood everybody loves
It's nice having a trade where you use a nail gun, not having to hide anything.
Whole build looks good
What kind of spacers are those?
SimpleSider siding gauge
The nail game tho! 🫠
Beauty of the shop wish interior doors was the same
Love the way there is no air under the panel on the house. Its like a go rot go mold dance.
Not really.. It's all sealed with tape and the trim is pvc
I like that. Quick, easy, and looks good. 👍
This guy's boss loves him.
He is the boss lol he owns the company
the passload nails will corrode, and leave nice brown circles.
They make galvanized nails for it
18/16g pins for paslode are a grade 3 fixing, meaning stainless steel, no corrosion. Perfect for outdoor applications and use in hardwoods
I have a feeling your a causal huh sounds like it based off that comment
I'm a bit dated, 10yrs ago they just rusted.
I did exactly that on my andersen 400 series (same windows) i did vinyl so i had the j channel built in.. saved about 4000 instead of buying the azek with the J
"I'd never trust a J I didn't make myself "
I gotta say, its be funny as hell if someone did a video like this but suddenly shoot a nail into the window lol
Nice job
Good for production. Unfortunately Carpenters are slowly becoming more of an assembler. Everything now is all prefab.
He builds them himself.
would be a good opportunity to put a bead of caulk behind the frame, but what a sweet idea.
I also love a perfect joint, every time it’s time to smoke.
I'd love to some them try be a joiner in England 🤣
Mr trim man, good work and thank you buy next time, if it makes no difference to you, can you shoot farther from the window flange more towards the sheathing side of the trim? Thanks.
do you ever chalk the frame first or just rely on the tape for waterproofing?
Grand estate spacing on the frame but nail the tacks with club house symmetry.
Didn’t know Carson Wintz was in construction
Nailed it.
You are the master chief 💪💕
What about the flashings?
The windows are taped around the nail fin, then a Z trim goes on top of the trim
@@Nate-ld7zj Interesting. Where I'm from, there needs to be flashing between the smart trim and the window as well as on top of and below the smart trim (4 pieces total), with end dams. Those would not work here.
@@Nate-ld7zjThe proper installation is drip edge on the window and above the trim!
@@mastercarpenter1970 a lot of newer model windows are coming with “built-in” guide “tracks” and port holes at the bottom so drip pans are slowly becoming obsolete. Although I personally still prefer them myself.
Nice, such quality and no window sill, it should last at least a amonth, with those 16 gauge nails.
Why would it need a sill? Vinyl windows don't need an extra sill
Can you show us window trim details like this, but with exterior insulation.
Not 100% confident with casing details.
Thanks for any of your help 😊
I like the idea of using your trim held out so you can slip that garbage vinyl siding behind it eliminating the garbage vinyl J molding around windows
It's going to be LP Smart siding, not cheap vinyl
Best way to go ❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
Would it not make more sense to caulk the frame to the window itself before nailing it into place? A good bead in between the two surfaces to best prevent moisture from entering?
For the Anderson window prices , hope the install was better
That’s not the frame, it’s the trim. If my eyes are right it’s smart siding. This is how we do smart siding at my job, you caulk the trim to window frame when you caulk in all the other joints
You want to minimize sitting water if it happens to go behind siding. It’s supposed to run off tyvek or whatever sheeting you use.
This is why they are flying on the first storm.
How would built in place trim be any different?
@@kylefitzy with screws. But in my country we make solid houses, not from thin wood.
You don't sound like a builder. My 25 year old house has 50 or so window trims installed the same way and not one has come loose let alone fly off in a storm.
@@electron1980Solid houses with no harsh weather. lol
Listen guys, he’s using screws on trim. Unless he is pre-drilling every hole the houses he “built” are just riddled with wood “blowouts” everywhere. He’s clearly never even heard of the concept of “shear strength” or he would know that nails have better shear strength than a screw. For anyone not understanding, it’s simple: screws for anything where the “force” acting on it is vertical pressure. Nails for anything taking horizontal pressure. That’s why you NAIL roofing or siding since the “pressure” it’s taking is WIND pushing on it in a horizontal plane.
For anyone wishing to “debate” this. I invite you to put an equal sized nail and screw halfway into a 2x4 and start bending them side to side and see which breaks off first. It will ALWAYS be the screw.
It isn't centered left to right. The right side is wider than the left.
Is that Carson Wentz at his new job?
I built 12 window boxes for my new triples' and this allows the trim to hide siding butt ends
Years and years ago, I did a trim job with the same spacing around the window. The general contractor made us take them down and make them tight to the window. I said what about caulk space?
Turns out he was a big friend of the devil's dandruff and an asshole on top of it.
It’s not for caulk, the window has already been waterproofed
@@newera9962 👎 yes caulk. Duh.
@@hossy540 😁
@@hossy540 you ever work for windows by anderson? you contract for them, i do
@@koruush7 I never said that… I said it was water proof, you need flex tape and corner guards.. you know what your right.. cock anything you want, have fun

You remind me of the guy who worked for timmys who went out and became a contractor and was good at first, then he got addicted to drugs and started putting outside window trim in bathrooms. Same demeaner and looks.
Really like that high-viz jacket
Brilliant this guy
Just a honest question, should you nail the trim through the flange of the window?
Never had any luck with Anderson Windows. Especially the ones with the pine wood on the inside.
How do you install them?
@@TheSeriesofTubes
My dad bought them from Anderson, they installed them. But the wood rotted fast, poor QC.
Nice 👍
I purchased a “W” stapler for pre-assembly of trim in the shop. Saw it in a video on UA-cam @ Awesome Framers.
That’s a corrugated fastener - great application
Also good for mulling windows
very skilled indeed
Pretty
Like a pro.
Great video 😊
Mad skills!👍👍👍
There all premade in a wear house, what skill do you need besides placing and nailing, everything is premade, it’s a 5piece Lego puzzle.🎉 skills🎉
@RRBuildings.. thanks! What do I need to do?
No drip cap?
A lot of new windows have built in trim flashing/flanges so drip caps aren’t always needed. Depends on the installation.
Impressive!
Andersen is one of the most expensive windows..and window trim nailed with 9 finish nailed..not gone withstand weather in a long run back it up with trim screws…
Nice work
Obsessed with nailguns
Wow
Nothing to think about there⚒️
My dude is just hitting random spots with a nail gun
Look again
I mean there's studs all around that window so he can't miss them
If he framed that window like a normal post frame, he's got 2x4s in between the 2x6 girts.
You have obviously never framed a house
Nah, you gotta shoot that stuff in the right place or your nails will twist the perfect trim you just put together. He’s nailing it so it won’t twist
That's all fine and dandy if they put the windows in right. And we all know how that goes
Что бы повесить обналичку, нужен именно такой пояс
How are you going to do the siding then? Please video close ups when done around the windows!
The siding butts up to the side of the trim.
