As a Monterey native, I recommend Rosine's for Italian food and La Casa De Sazon (Tyler Street next to Alvarado St) for authentic Mexican food!

Rosine’s is a tourist trap. NOT great food anymore (as of September 2022), BUT there cakes are amazing!

@@jfranklin9549 She’s a foodie like me. My mom having a hand in 2 family ran restaurants when I was growing up we ate a lot of Chinese family meals at the restaurant so for our treat meal my mother loved American fried chicken so it would be the Korean fried chicken!

MOM is too adorable! I wish we could’ve seen her catch a big fish and do a happy dance. My husband and I travel from LA to Carmel and Monterey often, we have visited some of these places and I couldn’t agree more with the first sushi spot. So disappointing! If you’re there and you have a special occasion type late lunch / dinner fifth and Dolores is one of our favorite spots.
And we never go to Monterey and skip an Ike‘s sandwich 😍
I will be adding some of these to my list of places to try.

I was born & raised in Monterey & live in Salinas. I totally loved this video & have so many more places to recommend for you to try out here! My favorite part of this video was watching your mom go fishing, that used to be my favorite childhood pastime with my mom. I haven’t been fishing in Monterey since my youth. I also enjoyed watching your sushi tasting at Akaoni, I need to try that place! Ooooh, Ube waffles!😍 I hear they are amazing!!!!💜

best desserts place is Swamp Snacks, they have deep fried ice cream sandwiches crusted in any cereal!

If you’re interested in a little Mexican food tour, you could check out Seaside. We have some great Mexican places for mariscos, Oaxacan food, and other good stuff.

I live in the Central Valley, my husband and I often travel to Monterey, especially during this crazy valley heat! We usually just go to the wharf and cannery row. We do go to Seaside to do some shopping. What restaurants do you recommend for Mariscos?

You really did choose some of the best places we have in the area! Parker lusseau and Alta are yummy, but the locals secret is getting to pavels backerei in PG at its 7am opening.

Just fyi you can’t go all the way through Big Sur bc there was a landslide a few years ago! So you have to take 101 which is just boring country roads basically! But u can still get halfway through

For great ambience try mission ranch, out on the patio so you see the sheep. Great breakfast/brunch and good dinners w the best garlic bread. Also go hear the bagpipes played on the golf course as the sun sets at Spanish Bay. Very pricey but well worth it.

Get the BEST Birria tacos at Las Maria’s in seaside!
So glad to see you in my area, Monterey is such a hidden gem! If you like Mediterranean food Paprika Café is the best in the area.. the pistachio baklava is incredible and the owner of the place is super nice! I do suggest that you take the food to-go though as the outside patio is a little cramped.

Here are a few little snacks I ate in Monterey and Seattle. Get Carr's water crackers and eat them with president brie cheese. Also you can get the meat and cheese tray at Safeway. Also the Last Supper Meal. It is greek pita bread!Sabra hummus, and real Sangria. Also have a sourdough bread with spinach dip that you dip the pieces of the bread bowl in. If you go to the Monterey Bay Cafe get the Monte Cristo sandwhich, yummy. Also at Denny's get curly fries with a side of ranch dressing. Also get coffee or a coke to set the meal. I hope you find the snacks that , Jay, eat.

I'm a local here in Pacific Grove! If you want the best places in town, I got you....
For breakfast get your coffee at PG Juice n' Java. Their popcorn latte, coffee, and smoothies are amazing. Then take a walk over to Fourniers Bakery Cafe. You can get day old pastries for $1, or new ones for relatively cheap compared to the more touristy spots. The cherry danish is my favorite, and the Almond bar is a close 2nd. It's cash only.
Next, spend a few hours walking around downtown PG. Be sure to drop by Picking's Antiques, as it's very reasonably priced. Pavel's Backerei is next door too if you are still hungry, or Grove Market.
For lunch, you really can't go wrong with anything downtown. It's all very good. I'd go get Fish and Chips at the Monarch Pub; the owner is very nice!
Mondays, there is a Farmer's market starting at 3PM. Usually you can get fresh strawberries for $4-5. On Tuesdays, the theater is only $6 for any movie. Friday nights is open mic night at PG Juice n' Java. On Saturdays and Sundays, head to Lucy's on Lighthouse for live music.
Make your way over to Lover's Point and rent a bicycle. Don't get an e-bike, because all of the touristy areas are accessible by the relatively flat bike path. You can ride to Cannery Row, the Aquarium, and to several beaches all within a few minutes. I recommend riding your bike Lover's Point to Asilomar Beach, then all the way down to Fisherman's Wharf.
If anyone seeing this would like a tour around Pacific Grove and/or Cannery Row, just send me a message or comment here. I'm free on Saturdays and Sundays to hangout for a few hours and can point you around town that most people miss. I find most people spend hours waiting in line at the aquarium, or waiting for a seat at a restaurant; not the best way to spend your time here.
