- Every gamer has dealt with them at some point. And sometimes you just want to get rid of them. By the way, if you are one, just know you are not special. Just cause you spent 500 hours grinding in a game does not give you permission to belittle someone playing said game for the first time for everyone else. You're just another loser giving gamers a bad name.

We should take a moment to praise Donguri, a youtuber who's so good at the Devil May Cry series, that when he posted a video of himself completely bullying the final boss, he titled the video "Dante vs Final Boss" and the thumbnail was just a shot of Dante geting ready to fight without spoiling the final boss.

I usually do the warning and the six month rule.
1.If somebody hasn't played a game ask for my opinion on it.
I tell them I may ruin it due to spoilers if they don't mind I usually go ahead if anything I may tease an idea on what's coming next if they are at a certain point.
2. If after six months you haven't played it or watched it and everyone else has at that point.
The world does not wait lol.
There is debate to be had and you had plenty of time to finish it.

@@mastadon1154 i personally do the 3 month rule because that's 3 paychecks worth for normal people. so if you didn't play it by then it probably wasn't that important enough to the person that spoiling won't matter.

I'm immune to spoilers. Send thy backseaters my way, for their magic has no effect on me. Seriously, I'm actually used to actively look for spoilers of a new game or movie. The thing is games are so expensive for me (30 dollars!) that I want to make absolutely sure that they're worth it before I buy them, even if it means making the whole experience less memorable, I know there are pirated games out there but half of the pirated ones I've bought recently were dumpster fires ngl. Movies work the same way, I hardly ever have got three hours and 8 dollars to spare driving to the theater and watching a movie, and I don't want to wait months to know what happens in it after it starts airing on TV, so I just end up spoiling it for myself on UA-cam, ten minutes at a time.
And by dumpster fires I mean constantly crashing/glitchy POS. Man, I wish it were just a matter of "framerates".
I got banned from a streamer I watched because he was drunk and I asked if he liked the changes from og FF7 to the remake and he banned me for posting spoilers.

Thank you. I’ve seen some VRstreamers deal with this type of issue and it sucks. People need to learn when to keep their mouths shut when a person is playing a new game. If they want help. They’ll ask.
Also there is such a thing as SPOILER FREE help. Like, dude... say someone wants to play Pokemon XY... you can just tell them "don't lead the first gym with a fire type". It clues on the first monster without giving a how-to or saying what monster the newcomer will face. Or in the game Kidd Atari is playing here: don't go to the Grove first. It suggests that what you need is everywhere else without giving away exactly why.

I see two problems in the spoiler-culture we are facing right now...
1. the "missing out"-marketing of every piece of entertainment we can get
2. the whiny-nature vs the troll-nature of the internetage now a days
maybe i am to old but i can remember times on the schoolyard, talking about the newest games with my friends (even singleplayer storygames) and the one who was the furtherst was the fucking king and we asked him questions or he gushed over what epic shit happens. In thouse days it was the way to that epic moment and to experience it for our selfs... but today... media changed me and i am sad about it... that no friend is allowed to talk to me over some new thing because i want to see it for my self not knowing what will happen to get this kick of suprise... we changed in the games media from "hype for this neat moment" to "hype for the exitment of the unknown" and thats, for me at least, is what drives A. The hypetrain and B. the fear of spoilers... and tbh... thats fucking sad and inpowers the greedy Publishers with scamy releases (andromeda, Anthem, Batman Arkhem Knight, Cyberpunjkt 2077) and also the trolls that feed on the anger of thouse they spoiled...

Oh this is relieving. I thought he was thinking about "backseat gamers' like "backseat drivers." Which I admit I still have a bad habit of doing and am trying to mostly break. But you know how you're watching someone fight a boss and you're just thinking "Jump on the horn! JUMP on the horn!! Why aren't you jumping on the horn yet?!"
Which granted can still be annoying but I'm sure it's not nearly as bad as those who purposefully spoil all the things.

I feel awful about it but I backseat quite hard. I watch a lot of Resident Evil 0 playthroughs because I love it. It can be incredibly heartwarming, but sometimes I can't stop myself from just being like "EXAMINE THE FUCKING BOOK, JOHN!"

From personal experience, I've had the opposite problem happen. They're just as obnoxious as the pricks that deliberately go onto forum threads that openly _warn_ of spoiler discussions just to whine that you've spoiled them.
At least with streams the mods can time them out or ban them outright.
Definitely. SPOILER WARNING in the thread basically is intended to say "STAY OUT OF HERE, DUMMY, WE DISCUSS STUFF THAT HAPPENS IN THE GAME/MOVIE".
I remember when someone tried to spoil the fate of certain characters from "The Conjuring 2."
I posted a comment on the trailer for the movie, obviously hyped for the movie. It got a lot of Likes, and plenty of responses. Naturally, one of the responses was someone, saying that "X character's die in the end." I blocked them.

I would especially love to see youtubers who put spoilers for the best moments in a game in the thumbnail ON RELEASE DAY get yeeted off the platform for good. Looking at you, Izuniy. The worst part is that if you searched for news relating to a game that had not yet cone out, the moment it does, these channels somehow end up in your recommended.
That goon spoiled Fallen Order, the first good star wars game in years, the day it came out. He spoiled the best moment in the game.
Others to look out for are Shirrako, kinda hard since he also uploads game osts, including fromsoft games, babyzone, who I remember spoiled fallout 4 for me. Cant think of others off the top of my head RN.

Honestly, theres a difference between backseat gaming and lamenting the fact your team is just plain garbage and that fi they know what they are doing they go off and do their own thing despite the goal being to simply ptfo, or play the freaking objecitve, thats it.
Watchmojo is extremely guilty of this too. I'm on season 3 of attack on titan and they spoiled a character's death by putting them in the thumbnail of anime deaths. This should be against terms of service. Too many channels do it

stream commentators fall into 3 categories ..
donators, trolls / back seaters, and spammers. 2 thirds are cursed creatures that should just die.
and the donators .. sometimes take the seats of the trolls as well, so just to be safe, disable all kinds of comments.

I remember feeling some type of way when someone just walked up to me WHILE working and tried to spoil Endgame. Luckily I had already seen it.
Thus why whenever a game I want to gets released, especially a Japanese game, I avoid the internet until I get my hands on it.

Someone who tells someone else how to play the game, often to the point of micromanaging. Derived from the phrase backseat driving which is a similar phenomenon in cars.

I have outright decided to unfriend anyone and everyone who spoils. I think you can very easily not ruin the fun for everyone in multiple ways. Of course, there are times where the final boss is revealed early (like OG FFVII or RE3), but those can also be said without spoiling. Hell, SMT and Persona guides to this day have spoiler-free guides for example. That also being said, the fact you know the final boss or an enemy you'll eventually confront doesn't mean you should spoil the journey there. Like the Bravely series always reveals a major boss basically at the beginning of the game; in two of those cases the player knows they will battle eventually, but it doesn't allow for telling others about it.
Gaming, in the end, is an adventure and everyone deserves to enjoy it as such.

I never completed ffx because during my first playthrough some troll came to my stream while i was facing a boss and said that i sucked and my gameplay made them cry and they would did things better so i turned off the game and havent tried it since this was 3 years ago

I tend to avoid the internet or UA-cam as it where a sickness once i buy a game i really look forward too but stuff can still be spoiled whether it be a game or a show no matter how safe you are but if you deliberately go into someone’s chat just to spoil something you are honestly an asshole.

Man, I got really pissed when this guy I used to sub to decided to upload the FF7 Remake final boss fight a day or 2 after it came out, with tons of spoilers in the thumbnail and title. I commented, going "Wtf I hadn't played the game yet!" with the UA-camr and his moronic white knighters going "Omfg it's such an obvious final boss! You shouldn't complain!" when the final boss fight in the remake didn't even exist in the original!
The comments are full of spoilerphobes and it's sad to see such weak individuals who can't handle a simple plot twist.
My college professor flunked people who would complain about being spoiled to things that he was teaching. He basically told us that life is a spoiler, we are being spoiled to things every day, even if you don't know you're being spoiled to something. In class, you get spoiled to the to things you learned, same with work. Besides, it's been proven that spoilers get you invested in stories to see how characters get to said point.🤔
