    Easy fix- tighten the tension on the drive belt inside by moving the mounting bolts on the motor-- it's unfortunately a very common problem but can easily be fixed in 10 minutes.. Also, be sure the pulleys have their hex bolts tightened against the flat surface of the drive shafts- another huge issue that can easily be fixed... Best of luck to the both of you in your knife making endeavours!! ♡♡♡♡♡

    I have had mine for over a year. I use it all the time and it has worked flawlessly - absolutely no issues.

    hope you listened to the comments on what the problem was and got your sander back in action instead of sending it back. learning to be a bit more aware of how your tools work can save you from having headaches like this.

    I'll bet the drive belt (not the abrasive belt) tension is loose and needs to be adjusted. That's fairly common but easily corrected on these type of machines.

    I just bought a used one off FB that did this. Was a belt for like $1.99 from WEN's website and works like a beauty now. Cheap and easy fix

    So that sound is a clutch or internal drive belt. It's both for gearing and a safety device in there that is out of adjustment. Old days and all bigger units, you have an external 3300 RPM motor and a reduction belt that drives a bigger pully that drives the sander. It would rip your arm off if you were careless and unlucky. (Concern about long hair is no joke - sleeves - screwdrivers - etc.) You have an all-in-one that is designed for safety. If you can't adjust it (should be behind the back or bottom plate - a bolt and a spring and a lever or belt tensioner) - anyway - you can always get a bigger one with an external motor. Be careful with it!

    mine did the same thing. its the drive belt off the motor.

    I had the same problem after using the sander for a year..... so of course the warranty was no good. I checked the drive belt and the screws holding the belt sprockets had come loose.......I tightened them, sanded and it happened again......over and over. Finally I put some lock-tight super glue on the screws which worked for about an hour before coming loose again. I'm resigned to buying a new sander. I had a 4x36 Delta ShopMaster before the Wen that lasted over 20 years of almost constant use......Unfortunately Delta is no longer around

    I wonder if you ever figured out it was users error for not tensioning the belt

      Sadly no. I could have tinkered around with it but I had not the time and it was a free return so I just upgraded to that Bucktool you see on my channel. I do have a couple other WEN products and they do work fine.

    I bought this sander new. It just quit working after about 20 min of light sanding. The motor makes a sound like it wants to turn but doesn't. Update: I returned the sander and the replacement had a bad bearing straight out of the box. I wasted so much time with this brand.

      @@CKKnifeandTool did you get that at Amazon, I bought something once from them the item said new but wasn't. The tool we got from Wal-Mart online hopefully it won't be the same. Harbor freight has a tool for about 77$ it worked out well but hard to switch out the belt I had to keep umscrewing the bolts and realigning it often. I hope you and your daughter like the new, awesome to know!

    Either there is a Key (straight or woodruff) that has wondered out of its position keeping the pulley in place or the belt is slipping. I know you don't want to mess with it and it's probably a return issue... but for me, I would take it apart and find out. Now... if the motor burned out... then I would send it back. Most likely it's a key or a belt tension. Good luck.

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  6 років тому

      If I bought it used via eBay, CraigsList or a garage sale I would have torn it apart and trouble shot the issues, which I think I know what they were. There were no other tensioning options. The internal spring I guess has a pre-load set. I think it was the fact that the WEN is not a direct driven unit. The motor runs an internal fully that attaches to another via a small belt and that causes a loss of power as it runs. factor in the dust that I believe accumulated within the unit caused the failure. I have another 4x36 coming and will do an unboxing and review on that one. Different company and different design of machine.

      THE BLADESLINGER ... Thanks for your input. A consumer shouldn’t have to trouble shoot and repair a new product when purchased. Now, if it was a cheap garage sale purchase or a free hand me down, then yes, do what you can to fix it. But brand new? Naw. And besides, unlike many commenters, I had no skin in the game to make WEN look good or bad, I just want something to work when I buy it. The Bucktool I replaced it with is still going strong as of last week when I used it last. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    you can hear the drive belt slipping, easy fix if you know how - this is why you must familiarise yourself with your tools, this machine was not propperly set up when it was assembled, annoying but not something to return it for

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  4 роки тому +1

      Steven R ... If it were a garage sale purchase or a hand me down I would say, dedicate some time and trouble shoot. But if a product is brand new and after trouble shooting and using it doesn’t work as it should, why then dedicate the time, money and effort to fix something that is obviously a product of bad quality control or build quality? If enough folks return items like this, it can send a message to the companies/ manufacturers that there’s a problem. Try calling or emailing a company whose customer service is dependent on foreign makers. No thanks. Return. Get replacement or a different one. Move on with the next project. Done. The Bucktool I got instead is great and it’s still going strong. Thanks though!

    • @CKKnifeandTool

      The WEN had only an on/off lever which loosened the belt to remove and instal and then the tracking knob.

      @@CKKnifeandTool Adjusting the drive belt requires removing the drive belt cover. It's on page 14 of the user's manual. Should be adjusted correctly at the factory, but... maybe it was assembled on a Friday ;)
      This is the link the applicable page in the manual (apparently WEN uses shopify for the online shopping cart and that's also where their manuals are hosted).

    Your daughter’s braid is only a halfway measure. Pile it up in a tight bun or, better yet, under a baseball cap. If you have ever seen a scalp injury caused by long hair being caught in *exactly* this type of power tool you would not call me a worry wart. I’ve got lots of *male* friends with hair as long as hers and they are far more careful - for a reason. I’m old and I wear my hair like yours - not for safety so much as because I’m balding!

      Сибирское здоровье
      То же самое я видел и в других сэндирах, это не означает что они не исправны, нужно просто включить голову и отрегулировать ремень, вот и все. Другое дело, когда сам электродвигатель останавливается от нагрузки, это говорит о малой мощности двигателя и такой сэндер как правило малопригоден для работ в шапе... В данном же случае, этот сэндер имеет вполне пригодную мощьность, надо его подготовить к работе и все отрегулировать правильно, вот и все дела... Американцы как правило не включают голову и не хотят что либо делать, им нужно все подавать готовое, думаю в данном видео это как раз тот случай...

    Something is wrong with that gear drive. You can hear it easily in the video as soon as you turn it on. Wen makes great products. This is the first time I have seen a broken product. So you got a bad one. Why make the company look bad. Just exchange it. I have Wen generators, and other equipment. Good products. Especially for the price. Research the WEN corporation and history. It's very impressive. The same concept as Honda and Toyota.
